They split our group into 6 smaller groups so that we could rotate through the exhibits with ease. Lasso, black smith, arts and crafts (wildflower seeds), making adobe bricks, "museum" of home life and a history talk. The kids LOVED the adobe brick making. This is kinda messy. Kids are to take off shoes and socks, roll up their pants and mush around in mud. Then they take the mud, mix it with hay and make bricks. After they are done, the students get help with rinsing off the mud and drying off. Great place for 4th and 5th graders.

I heard about the Walking Tours on NPR and decided to check them out this month since it piqued my…read moreinterest. I've been trying to do more local things just to get more acquainted with the IE. I sent out an email to uplandwalkingtours@gmail.com to get more info and Ann (she's the guide) responded very promptly. All I had to do was show up at the steps of the Cooper Museum by 10 am on the day of the tour (which is usually the 2nd Saturday of every month). The day of the tour I arrived 20 minutes beforehand because I was worried about parking, but there was no need to worry, there is plenty of parking there. There is street parking and a lot next to the Museum. You can also bike (it is near the Electric Trail), or take the Metrolink (the station is across the street from the Museum). Getting there is very convenient. The weather was slightly overcast, so it was a perfect day. We walked for about a mile making stops at various locations to get historical information and for some minor reenactments that we all got to participate in. What I loved the most was learning about all of the people. Ann had put together some quotes with a picture of a person. We each picked one out and read them aloud. It really brought the history to life. The stops included a very beautiful Victorian house, the Carnegie Library, a historical fire department building, a bakery (where there is time to grab a snack), and various other locations. I enjoyed all of the gardens and architecture I saw while walking. Ann pointed out a beautiful stained glass window in an empty location that just screams for restoration. After the tour I enjoyed walking around the Cooper Museum. It's small, but has a lot of good exhibits. They had a comic book superhero one that was pretty awesome. I'm definitely going back again and explore some more.

One of the workers made a broadcast to keep the toys in their designated area perhaps because my son brought the clothes from the front to the washer/dryer toy in the back. I think they should have left some clothes in the back to allow the kids to play with the washer/dryer in the back. It was a great one time experience, but I wouldn't be back.

Intricate details on the doors walls and furniture. Learned that Riverside was a very affluent city from oranges. Sugar was very valuable back then and Chinese servants worked at the Victorian mansion. Makes me appreciate how much technological advancement there has been to make the modern life more efficient and convenient.

I needed to tour Kimberly Crest because I always wanted a Disney Princess wedding, but I didn't want to get married at Disneyland or in Downtown Disney. To book the tour slot, we filled out the form on their website and emailed to coordinate a time with Mary and Tanya after sharing some additional details about our wedding (priorities, budget, timing, guest count). The historic home and additional stone stairwell and fountain add-on are beautiful, and they are great for couples who want a photographic venue and have put a high emphasis on getting great wedding portraits in a castle-eqsque setting. We were looking for a wedding venue with water elements, and felt like the fountain/pond was a great water feature. You have the option for your guests to go inside the house for a guided tour during cocktail hour, but otherwise it is closed, which means the entirety of your wedding is outdoors. Inspired by a French castle, the French château-style mansion was built in 1897 and has an old Victorian-style architecture, and the iconic cascading stone and concrete stairs in the Italian Renaissance-style gardens (the majority of the photos you see online) were added between 1905 and 1909 as a part of the garden overhaul by the new Kimberly family owners. In case of rain in Redlands, they have great tent partnerships and can get your reception space tented for a great day. It's a venue-only rental, which is great if you're looking to bring in all of your own vendors for a Saturday wedding with up to 200 guests! The ceremony is on the grass lawn, the cocktail hour is behind the house in a cute secret garden area, and the main reception dinner and dancing are in the courtyard at the top of the stairs, and you can really transform the space for your own fairytale vision. They worked with my budget needs and gave me amazing recommendations and ideas for the wedding. They let me come by the venue as much as I needed to. I never felt like I was annoying them (with all of my questions, as a bride usually has), they remained patient and kind throughout the process. The Kimberly Crest House & Gardens team really did go above and beyond for me and my now husband. They took on responsibilities outside of their assigned roles to ensure my wedding day ran as smoothly as possible.
