Beautifully hipster interior with a great outdoor patio in a convenient downtown location. The beers were tasty and diverse, so there's something for everyone. I REALLY appreciate their variety of craft soda on the menu, as I'm currently pregnant (I was particularly fond of the orange cream). No food service during Covid 19, but still a great experience overall. Next time we're back in town, we'll be paying Phillips another visit. read more

Please please suppor craft breweries. Their beers so superior to the ancient big breweries. Pizza here good too.

You can't buy a pint or a sample here. You can sample on a cash donation basis, or buy growler fills or bottles to go. I wish I had known that before making my guy walk over a mile here to get a local brew. It was a tad embarrassing to say we didn't have any cash for the donation box to enjoy samples! (We arrived on a cruise ship... Didn't get local currency for a few hour visit, planned to use credit card). They were super friendly and gave him a small sample anyway, which he more than paid for by buying one of their branded T shirts. If we lived here, I'm sure he'd visit for growler fills! But don't come here thinking you can buy a drink to consume on site. read more

Great brewery, I'm a big fan of a lot they produce. I think it's so great that they do tasters by charity donation :) The staff were all laid back friendly and helpful. I do wish there were some more perches for us while we taste away. I like all the local art, and great product (growler backpack anyone?!!) Last two times I came to the Island they were closed and off location at an event, I couldn't be more thrilled to have made it this time! Busy and fun atmosphere on a Saturday night, and boy am I jealous locals can buy those growler fill coins! read more

If you are visiting Victoria, you should definitely stop by Phillips Brewing Company. The beers are great and they serve huge, warm pretzels to go with them! They also make their own gin, which you should try as well. read more

Do you like beer? Do you like to try different beers? Then stop in the next time you are visiting Victoria! I went to the counter and asked about tastings. They said no charge but if we wanted to make a donation to charity, that was great. Wow! Refreshing! There were SO many beers on tap that I can't really tell you everything I tried but I certainly covered the gamut. The staff were so friendly and talked me through every beer as I tried it. I actually am not sure how they kept track of everything but they always knew exactly which beer was next. Apparently I walked away from the counter to check out beers to take home and when I went to pay, my last taste was waiting for me! Seriously great part of the trip. read more

I really enjoy my time @ Phillips. Beer is always cold and tasty, crowds are laid back and relaxed. This is the place to go for a cold one, prices and service is on point. read more

Great brewery. Good beer, good root beer, and a really good soft pretzel. Not much more to say folks!

Nice place, great service. The beer however, did not live up to my expectations. Beer taste preferences are subjective though. The place has a fun ambience read more

When you're passionate for beer, you're always looking for a place that has that passion. Phillips Brewing Company brings it. A great selection of super flavourful beers you just want to keep trying. Over and over. Sit at the counter, have a few tasters and the crowd is a constant stream of people refilling growlers. And once you try, you'll see why its hard to leave without your own growler. Tasters are complimentary, but they encourage a donation to local charity. Okay. Altruistic AND good brewers? Like a moth to a flame I'm there. The seasonal fare is probably the best of the lot. And the session IPA is a strong second. If you're on Vancouver Island, this is the place to visit. read more

As local and as good as it gets. Located in the close-to-heart downtown Victoria, BC this brewery offers top notch local brews that other places may only dream of. Having tasted a couple of local beers from Vancouver Island this place stands out as having not only the most brews on tap, but also some of the tastiest and most creative in the area. Their style is very youthful and laid back as they offer tastings for free, but suggests a donation to support local charities. This is very welcome and a very fair way of conducting business. It's like saying "We're confident in our product! If you like it, please support a charity and perhaps buy a six pack before you leave." That's what a tasting is all about. The downside with this place is that the parking lot is small and if you happen to come by during peak hours you may have to fight for parking. The location next to a busy street doesn't help either. If I had a longer stay in Victoria then I'd be a regular here. read more

I was super impressed by these guys. I go to a ton of breweries and it seems like these guys have it figure out. They have a variety of staple beers as well as a variety or rotators and they're all tasty while all serving a different purpose. I looked in the back and was blown away by how large their production facility was. As far as the tap room goes, it's simple and to the point. They are relatively well priced and tastings come at the cost of a donation to charity. Keep it up! read more

This is one of my favorite breweries I have ever been to. If you're visiting Victoria and want to try some local beer, this is THE place to go. It's an easy walk here from downtown. Now, what makes it one of my favorites? Two things: 1) good beer 2) free tastings. That's right. free. While the beer here is good, I wouldn't classify it as extremely good. But, when you couple quite good beer with free tastings... game over. The only thing they ask is that you drop some money in a donation bucket for charity they have sitting on the counter if you taste their beer, which is pretty cool if you ask me. read more

As a long time Phillips fan, I was pumped to go here and was not disappointed with the freshness of the beer and rare seasonal offerings. I should mention that this is a tasting room only and you will find no pints here as a result of antiquated BC legislation. read more

Excellent beer, great pretzel with a sweet tangy mustard, even better staff and service. If you are in Victoria, this is the go to spot if you want good local beer. read more

Great place to grab a few samples from the source. Small room with merchandise and bathroom. Due to legislation you can't stay for a pint but were able to sample. Not worth the long walk from downtown. read more

I used to really like this place,I was acquainted with most of the bar staff. Then a barboy named Jordy changed all that.It was a warm day and I had just finished up 2 hrs. of tennis with my 23 yr.old son.I drove up and parked in front of some large glass windows at Phillips tasting room.My sports car literally comes up to my waist (I'm 6'3).I walked in and said hello to a barman (Leon) who I was familiar with.I was immediately confronted by"Jordy" who came around the bar to get right in my face.He said to me" I saw you stumble when you got out of your car".I was shocked and taken aback by his unprofessional rudeness.I told him I was fine, hadn't had anything to drink. He was like a dog with a bone. What gives him the credentials to judge me like that..his one day 'Serving it Right" course ?He insisted I wouldn't be served and wouldn't be allowed to drive away.I don't take directions from punks like him,so I turned on my heel, jumped into my car and drive home.I was home approx.15 minutes and in the shower when I heard the cops banging on my door.Wanna be Jordy had called them.I opened the door to the officer and a couple neighbors who were very curious. The cop was fairly understanding, but not much crime happens in Victoria so I'm sure he was happy to have something to do.Needless to say I haven't been back, and I would like to tell Phillips mgmt.that they're not doing themselves any favours keeping dipshits like Jordy around. He'll only erode your business.I know a lot of people and I told lots about this incident. They won't be back either. read more

I visit Victoria often for work and have heard quite a bit about the great craft beer community in Victoria. I thought I would visit what I have been told is the biggest in Victoria. Well, bigger is not better. The beers in samples tasted very similar, nothing defining, either ridiculously hoppy (don't get me wrong, I like hops) or kind of bland and watery. The tasting room was dirty. Staff was not approachable. Overall disappointing experience. read more

First time ever doing a tasting with no charge - instead, they ask for donations to give to charity. We got four tastings and they were hefty pours. The staff is very nice and the beers are solid. Glad to have stopped here during our Canadian craft beer crawl. read more

There is not a bad beer to be had here. Seriously. As beer snobs from Seattle, my girlfriend and myself recommend this fine establishment wholeheartedly. A donation to charity will net you eight generous samples of their finest beer. Citricity, a grapefruit IPA, should be renamed Nectar of the Gods. To top it off, our gracious host named Dan gave us a quick little tour of the brewery (thanks Dan!) We will definitely return here next time we're in Victoria, but prepared with a sufficient amount of growlers! (maybe eight?) read more

Great service by the bartenders. Very knowledgeable of the beers and process. Sixteen beers on tap and locally brewed gin. Glitter bomb hazy pale ale a plus read more

Amazing beer, flights are by donation to a local charity. Super well priced growlers. I highly recommend this place!!

It's a retail outlet for all of their beers and soft drinks. Tasters are available. Service is quick and friendly, parking is available but spots can be found up and down the street. If you have a particular beer in mind but it's not carried at your local store, it is well worth the drive to come here. read more

I don't know how to review this place..the business is great, they put on concerts and events all the time, and good things for the community. But speaking as a total beer nerd..im not a fan. Every once in a while they put out a decent/good seasonal, but ya...most people seem to love them so I don't wanna bash. I appreciate any craft brewery but I'd like to seem some better stuff out of such a big, popular brewery read more

I had their ginger ale from dog-gone-it down the street so this review is not for the brewery itself or any tours. Just felt compelled by how awesome this ginger ale is. read more

Don't miss this place on your trip to Victoria! The service, tour and beer is OUTSTANDING! It's not too bad of a walk from downtown, we did it with no problem. You get so many generous pours of beer, they even give you one while your waiting for the tour to start. Afterward you can purchased beer from the cases, such an awesome place. read more

Good selection of beers to try with helpful staff and a cool feeling. Great tees and posters for sale, all done by the same local artist. My boyfriend says the Blue Buck is one of his favorite beers he's ever tasted -- and we live in micro-brew central here in Colorado! read more

I am all for supporting local soda works, especially craft sodas. Most of the ones that I have tried this year have been awesome, however, this one disappointed me a bit. It was good but not great as it should've been. The ginger taste was there but there was little punch. Great drink to have with sushi but as a stand alone it has a lot of work to be done. If you're not that much into the ginger punch but want something a little higher in quality than this is a good compromise. Cost per bottle was 3.50 which was sugar robbery but went for it this once hoping that I would fall in love with something. read more

Poor service, can't order a beer and the beer is overrated, not worth the long walk from downtown to get here. Waste of time.

Fun place! Growler refills. Sample beers! Wish they had a pub! Very friendly people!!!

Really enjoyed this place. The tour is entertaining and informative. They use as much local ingredients as possible and truly are passionate about their products. A variety of awesome craft beers. They are also making their own spirits now as well stump gin and whiskey eventually. Great tasting beer, and will surely search it out here in Ontario. ALl are good however favorites would have to be Blue Buck, and chocolate porter. read more

My gf and I have been fans of Phillips beer since we went to a tasting in Vancouver at the New Oxford. On our most recent trip to Victoria when booked the tour of the brewery. It was a cold wet day so we were the only people on the tour. Lots of samples of their beer, all of which were great (even the chocolate beer). Our guide was very friendly (but he talked really, really fast, hard to get a word in). Overall it was a fun experience and were will search out some of the hard to find in Vancouver varieties that we tasted. read more

Some very good beers are brewed here! The staff is friendly and generous in their tasting pours. The souvenirs are not only cool but useful, too, (growlers and locally crafted growler carrying bags!) Beer prices are reasonable, and you'll learn a lot on the tour if you happen to go on a Wednesday or Thursday. read more

I had a strange interaction at Phillips that was so uncomfortable and quietly hostile that it bears mentioning publicly. My husband and I visit Victoria twice a year and hit all the breweries when we are in town. We love sampling the beers and chatting with the great people running the taps. My past 3 experiences at Phillips were so amazing, I've been crowing about the Longboat Chocolate Porter to everyone I know for two years. I've sampled the box of tasters of beers making a donation to charity (which is pretty cool) each time without incident. We know the drill on our 4th visit, Canadian cash in-hand. Tonight we came in about 6:30, a half hour before closing, and it was virtually empty--only two other people there enjoying a taster. The beertendress pretty much ignored us and started filling growlers for the dozen or so people that came in after us. We just wanted a few samplers to taste, then we were going to snag some 22 ouncers and six packs and be out the door! The beertendress demanded we brandish TWO pieces of ID each. I've haven't been carded in Canada since I was 19...almost 20 years ago. She did not card the other patrons that were getting growlers filled in a frenzy. Weird. Even after complying with the ID caper, still we were ignored. Another staff member told us, "We're a liquor store; filling growlers happens first." Whoa. I thought Phillips was a brewery where customers could sample their wares before purchasing a few bottles to go? After standing around awkwardly for 10 minutes as other customers came and went, we left without purchasing a porter for me and an IPA for him, and 2 sixers of root beer. It was clear we were NOT going to be getting any samplers from the two beertender individuals. I normally wouldn't bother to write a review about poor service from a business, but this was so over the top rude and unexpected. I just usually don't ever go back to establishments when I have a negative interaction. I love visiting Victoria, and the breweries and hospitality are usually amazing. We went to Moon Under Water and the 4 Mile Brewpub, and they were happy to serve us beer and take our money. I really wanted that chocolate porter, but on principle, I can't go buy one from Phillips after that ridiculously rude behavior. Guess we'll be skipping Phillips from now on when we brewery-tour on Vancouver Island! read more

The beer was delicious, we got to try 4 or 5 in the tasting room, the guy was super friendly, knowledgeable, and chatty, and it was exactly what we were looking for in a visit to a brewery. read more

This is a great brewery! Their ginger beer is the best beer I have ever had. (Disclaimer: I am a huge fan of ginger.) It was so good it made me create a yelp account just so I can let you all know how good it is. You should definitely visit this brewery if you're in Victoria. read more

All I can say is you just have to love their beer, I am addicted to their Amnesiac double IPA. And the crew they have working for them have some of the best customer service skills I have ever come across. I am talking Dan in the Victoria office and Alistair doing deliveries here on the island. They left me satisfied and valued as a customer after a small hiccup I experienced. Kudos to the two of them and here is to a wonderful Holiday season for the Phillips crew. Amazing brew! read more

Very welcoming. The employees were very friendly and the beer tasted great, very good section.

Awesome time at philips, tried their new darker lager and their chocolate porter in the tasting room and have been back for growlers every night. You won't be disappointed coming here definitely worth it great atmosphere and great beer. read more

Wow this place is busy! We came here just before Christmas to do some sampling. The fridges were nearly empty and the place full of people sampling and buying. We've had most of the phillips brews before as you can easily find them in alberta. I wish there were chairs to sit on. The place was so busy that we didn't get to chat much with the guys about the beer. Their new raspberry beer was delicious and on his advice I tried it half and half with their chocolate stout. I'm not a fan of stouts but mixed together left me speechless! It was amazing! We were also pleasantly surprised to find they have a distillery operation as well! If you're a beer fan this is a must stop for you. read more
