I visit Pets at Home to get my hamsters supplied- he loves the honey bars there! Staff are always helpful & pets look well looked after. Queues are always long though & staff seem to spend a lot of their time serving customers as slow as they can. I also don't like the thought of dogs being allowed into the building as I can imagine small animals on sale can get quite scared of them. Items are quite hard to find upon your first visit, but actually, when you know your way around, items are all placed in logical sections! Pets at Home is a large pet superstore, with everything you need to look after your pet, whatever kind of animal it may be! They have a large variety of dog and cat foods, as well as plenty of supplies for smaller animals. There is also a good range of bedding, grooming accessories and toys for your furry friends. They have quite a few small pets for sale too, such as rabbits and hamsters, which are fun to watch for a while. There is also a large birdcage at the back which usually contains several rather noisy birds! At the back of the store is a small veterinary surgery, where I have taken my cats to have injections and for checkups. The vets are very efficient and friendly, and the prices for injections etc. are pretty good compared with other vets. read more

Pets At Home is a great place to get pretty much anything you need for your pets. Before I got my kitten I got everything I needed from there. It isn't exactly cheap but their products are very good quality and you can always find what you are looking for. The few times I have been there I have tried to start a friendly conversation with the staff just to be ignored or given short answers. read more

This chain as a whole is absolutely crap. Everything is available cheaper elsewhere, the staff are generally uninformed and give bunches of incorrect advise at least on the fish side. They are also busy and unwilling to talk. The only plus point is the vet section will do vaccinations and things at a comparable or cheaper price to local vets. As an example I once had a 140L tropical tank go at a seam. While everyone is alive but now living in buckets of water in the dining room I rush over to the nearest 'open til 9pm' box store because I need to buy a new fishtank stat. I spent 1hr unable to get help. I am generally a difficult customer so even though I need a tank now I still want to grill the staff on features (and try to get a discount!). Eventually I get a girl to discuss tanks with me but she left halfway through a sentence to help a couple decide on a goldfish (come on. I'm look at spending £500+ here?). She literally just wandered off mid conversation. Another hour passes and I eventually get a staff member to get my new tank out of the back of the warehouse and onto a pump truck. I've got to direct this myself through the busy shop and queue with it (we are talking a 5'x3'x3' box containing fragile glass for the tank and a huge flatpack for the cabinet) and when we get to the checkout I try to split the cost of £599 onto two cards. Me and my partner were going to pay half each. This confused the girl. Made her mess up the transaction. She started again. Called the manager. Spent some more time. At this point we've been in the store for two and a half hours. At the point the manager turns to me and says Sigh. Can't you just pay on one card? I tip over the edge and ditch everything at the till. You know what? Sod you. I've been to two locations and while the service wasn't as bad as the Derby one the incorrect fishkeeping advise was given at both. Bad advise like that just kills fish. No good. read more

Pets at home offer a really good range of pet supplies which are competitively priced. I purchase most of the food and other accessories for my cats from this store, and have never had a problem. The store is conveniently located for the east and north of the city, just off the A61. The staff have always been friendly and polite. It helps with the car park right outside the front of the store, if you are carrying heavy items to your car. read more
