I hope to try more food from this city along the Baltic Sea but for now it is a 4-star meal to me!…read more It was tougher to find English reviews and recommendations for Rostock than Berlin or Hamburg but I saw multiple recommendations online for Zur Kogge. I was worried that the tourist attraction would lack gastronomically. Thankfully, I was wrong. I arrived to find a large tour group dining and only one free table left. Throughout my meal, I witnessed many diners turned away because they were booked up (this was on a Monday night), so make sure to come early or make a reservation. If you want the best view of the nautical decor, reserve a table on the upper level. My drink and food orders were taken promptly even though they were BUSY. I ordered the Rostocker Export draught to start. It was a great pour and went perfectly with my food. I ordered the pumpkin ginger soup and I sat there for 10-15 minutes with my taste buds blown. It was served hot, with dark bread croutons and pumpkin oil. It was smooth but thick and warmed my entire body. I ordered the sauteed herring with potatoes and green beans (Frisch gebratene Ostseeheringe mit deftigen grünen Speckbohnen und Bratkartoffeln) as my entree. I hadn't had a fish with bone-in in a long time, so eating it was a bit of a challenge for me. The flavors were great but the dish overall was a tad heavy. Both the potatoes and green beans are sauteed in bacon grease. I left feeling content and fit in a nice 15-minute walk before getting on the bus back to Berlin. I will definitely bring friends along next time.

Love this place and that was why for my graduation dinner I took my parents (who came all the way…read morefrom Canada) to eat here! Wow were we happy with amount that was served!!! Don't let the name stop you from coming in -- here not only is fish served but also steak, vegetarian and basically typical North (Rostock) fisherman food. I ordered the Schollen -- it came with a nice fish plate and a generous amount of salad, sauce and either rice or french fries or croquettes (fried potatoes thingy) Try and get a table upstairs- cause there are plenty of old antiques hanging from the wall and nice huge blowfish also. The staff are friendly and perhaps you can also get the Platt-Deutsch menu and learn some words also! All in all, a nice restaurant, centrally located -- across from the harbour so you can also go for a walk after or before or what the heck go into the city for some shopping!

They had menus in english which made it pretty easy and the host and servers spoke english which was even better. We ordered the specials which included a burger, fries, yogurt and beer or summer drink. We had the local beer and it was pretty good. The burgers were pretty good on a brioche bun and the fries were awesome. Be prepared to take your time. Our server was nice but she took forever to get us our desert and check. It was a good thing we had time to spare. Prices I think were reasonable. They took apple pay which was always nice and easy.

Peter Pane was an okay place to stop for a meal while visiting Rostock. As a tourist walking up…read morethe main shopping street, it seemed like a good choice for a burger and some people watching as it was beautiful outside and seats were available. My friend and I took a table and then took a stroll through the menu, which was in German. This was no big whoop as we had our trusty translation apps on our phones, plus, we were ordering burgers ... not a lot of mystery there. The server came out after a while to get our order and when we spoke in English, he seemed annoyed and grunted that he would get us English menus. Before we could tell him that we didn't need them, he took off and disappeared for a few minutes. (Now, as a tourist, I get that we can be annoying. I work for a major theme park in Orlando, FL ... so believe me, I understand ... its just that I don't grunt in my guests' faces. Also, I didn't know why we deserved a grunt so early on other than communicating in English ... but message received, sir. Message received.) Anywho, we ordered and I got the fig burger with the special grain bun and the "premium" beef, which were both up charges. I also ordered the Ewiges Kind, which were potato fritters sticks with apple-vanilla compote. When the burger came out, it wasn't hot but just kind of warm. It also didn't taste great, especially for "premium" beef. It actually tasted like a beef patty that had been warmed up, so nothing special. The Ewiges Kind were good though! I loved the sweetness of the apple dip, so all was not lost. Overall, the food was just okay. The location is excellent as its in the middle of busy area. There is also free wifi inside the restaurant towards the back but you won't get it outside or just inside the restaurant. They did have excellent restrooms (WC's) downstairs that were a fun design and very clean. The interior of the restaurant was also fun and somewhat themed as a modern forest. So, good on that end! Annnnnnd, there it is. It wasn't bad but it wasn't that good. Average would be the word I would use to describe my food and experience ... from an English speaking tourist's point of view.
