Avoid this company. I asked for a bid to replace a mainline from my house to the alley. It's going to be a multi-thousand dollar job, but the first guy who showed up tried to scope it, but decided he didn't want to damage his new camera head, did nothing, and shrugged when I asked for an estimate, then charge me $150. Peterson refunded that and sent a journeyman plumber back who could give me an estimate. I took half a day off work and the guy who showed up didn't know why he was here, and when I explained that I was looking for an estimate, said, "yeah, I'm gonna charge you for an estimate." I asked them to leave on the spot. Are you seriously telling me that's how these guy do business??! I've been in construction for 30 years. I was getting ready for work when I heard water running. The toilet downstairs was overflowing while my wife was in the shower upstairs. We've had drain line root problems before and I'd replaced more than half the line so I had a clean-out in the front yard. I tried clearing the line with a garden hose and a cheap 25' snake from harbor freight to no avail. Called Petersen and they came out with the jet in 2 hours. They cleared the line and gave me good advice (go to Bi-mart and get some Roebic root killer and use it two weeks from now when roots start to regrow) instead of trying to sell me other stuff. The flat rate they charged me was very fair. I feel grateful for their service and will definitely call them again. read more

Frank and Mark showed up on time after we received a call from the office letting us know they were on the way. We had numerous things to repair in both bathrooms, including replacing a sink. Everything was done in less than two hours and works perfectly. Both men were professional, neat, very pleasant and cleaned up after themselves. Four-day project turns into four-week nightmare, and over 4k in lost income, due to repeated office staff communication failures. We hired Petersen for a new construction (commercial kitchen). At the outset, I was told on the phone that they handle filing for the plumbing permit with the county.  The plumber (Brett W.) and his apprentice comes and absolutely does a great job, with amazing work ethic and up-beat friendliness. We are told to expect the county to come for inspection the following week. With the green light on the permit inspection, they excavate a massive trench through the driveway around the building.  Plumber shows up on Wednesday with a very glum look on his face. He tells me, "I regret to inform you that the inspector is not showing up." - confused, I ask him why, and he seemed pained to reply, "Permits aren't my job, call the office." I call the office, and the person who I talked to was very casual and remarkably non-apologetic about what happened: they informed me, that their company NEVER EVEN APPLIED FOR A PERMIT TO BEGIN WITH, since it was taking them on average three weeks for permits to go through these days. They said that the county wasn't prioritizing contractors like they used to, that it was taking too much time. "You'll have better luck!", they chirped.   As their customer, I believe that Petersen Plumbing should have contacted me immediately to inform me that they were not bothering to apply for the permit like they said they would, instead of waiting to tell me on the day that both the plumbers and I fully expected the inspection.  The trench has now been open for nearly a month. If I hadn't been led to believe the inspection was going to happen, we would have postponed the trench digging until a few days before, like we had originally planned. As you can imagine, there are many reasons why having a gaping trench circling a building like a medieval moat is inconvenient: access issues for people working on-site, liability to visitors, danger to children.  I tried calling Petersen to request for additional advice in applying for the permit: the receptionist took my name, number, and said the person responsible for handling permit paperwork would get right back to me. They never called me back. After a week, I left a voicemail, asking them to at least acknowledge the situation that they put me in. No reply. This is a situation where little human kindness would have gone a long way.  Even if it had taken Petersen three weeks for the permit to go through, like the company feared, that trench would have been filled in last week, if they had applied for that permit back when they said they would. If they had told me they weren't dealing with permits at the very beginning, I would have instantly gone to the county myself and the trench would have been covered up two weeks ago without the hazard of it sitting open. As it stands, the trench is still open, and I am still waiting, hoping to hear back from the county. Petersen Plumbing sent me a $7,000 bill. The cost of running water. I paid, but only because the plumber was a freakin' gem. But I am blown away by the lack of consideration, for the inconvenience and loss of livelihood I have suffered in the last month due to their office people's communication failures.  UPDATE: week 4 of open trench. On Friday, the county let us know the permit went through and that we were able to schedule inspection. What a relief. I call up Peterson, letting them know that we had the green light for scheduling the rough inspection on Tuesday so we can finally get water turned back on and that cursed trench filled in - and asked them, if the plumber needed to be there. The office worker said, "No. You're good. There is no reason why the plumber is required be there for the inspection. The county will let us know about the inspection status and we'll be in touch with you if we need to."   It's Tuesday. The county inspector came. And guess what? The plumber needed to be there to fill the drain lines. read more

I called when my tankless water heater suddenly wouldn't heat. When I was told the two technicians that worked on them were not working that day a very nice lady said she would see what she could do. I got a call back within an hour and soon had a tech come out the same day. He not only got the heater working again within a few minutes but flushed it out and fixed another long term problem with it shutting off periodically. I was totally satisfied! 12/27/18 I just received a bill from Petersen Plumbing for evaluation of my two Reliance Water Heaters at an apartment complex I own for a pending transaction. In there report they indicate that the heaters were not installed properly and a bid to fix them would be $4,500 to $5,500! This represents almost twice the cost of actually starting over and installing two new heaters! These guys are crooks and I would never recommend anyone do business with them. I have been a licensed contractor and real estate broker in Lane County for over 20 years and overall I'm proud of the ethics that most businesses display. My kitchen faucet blew up one day they were able to make it out the next day and even had a great selection of top-of-the-line faucets in house for me to choose from and installed it for me. I really tried to give these guys a fair chance. I also gave them over 1000$. Now I am left high and dry. No water! After not even being able to fix or locate the problem. They quoted me over 5000$ to replace the entire water main coming from the street. The last straw was when I called them to come out. They made feel as if my money, and my family being out of water was a minor problem, and they wouldn't even be able to start for weeks. This is after having multiple issues with showing up on time, the first 3 times they came out to look at the leak, they missed there window of time that they said they would arrive (without calling). The turd ended up being a fierce warrior and won the battle against my toilet. What that turd didn't know was that I had a secret weapon ready to be unleashed. I broke the handle on our toilet this morning, believe it or not. I called Petersen Plumbing who I have used in the past and the boss himself came out with his helper. To their credit they didn't laugh at me for doing so. I laughed out loud immediately when I did it. Best laugh of the day, so far. Greg Petersen replaced first said handle with brass parts, replacing the plastic parts - yippee. Then I asked him/them to do the same on the second toilet before it broke. They had the parts with them to do so. They were finished with the toilets in less than 1/2 hour. Then Greg asked me about my dryer vent and if I had cleaned it lately. I said, like never. He had his helper clean the inside of the dryer and he went outside to access the dryer vent from the outside and cleaned it out. It was completely clogged having never been cleaned in the entire lifetime of the house, 25 years. Now, how many of you have ever experienced a plumber clean your dryer vent? It's possible he may have saved the lives of our pets and ourselves. Dryer vent fires are the second leading cause of house fires. He had the dryer vent equipment in his truck to clean out the vent from the outside. I didn't even know to clean the vent. I am SO impressed with this company who came out the same day I called, cleaned the dryer vent as well as fixing my toilets because they had extra time on the hour. Thank you, Peterson. Earlier this year I was living in an old apartment that had CONSTANT plumbing problems, and tended to rely on my building manager for repairs. One Saturday, though, he wasn't around and my kitchen sink wouldn't drain. I decided to nip the problem in the bud (rather than wait until Monday) and called Petersen Plumbing. The plumber showed up a couple hours later at the scheduled time (give or take 15 minutes, which is not something to complain about). He got right to work and focused intently on the sink. An hour and a half or so after arriving, he had liberated the sink backup. He even ended up discovering a crack in one of the pipes and told me I should get it fixed, and he flipped the switch for the disposal and found that it wasn't functioning (which it hadn't been for a month). He stuck his hand right down into it and dug out the offending materials and just like that, my disposal and sink were back in business. I can't comment on the fairness of the bill, because this was my first time hiring a plumber, but it wasn't anything that made my eyes bulge out in agony. We had 2 repairs to get done and Matt did both efficiently and effectively. While he could have recommended replacing parts, he quickly fixed what we had, saving us hundreds. That wasn't the best part. I called back a few days later because the garbage disposal that the electrician (not Petersen Plumbing) installed, caused our dishwasher to stop draining. They do good work, but I want to warn you that their price is the same no matter what they do. Today I called them to come look at my hot water heater because I had no hot water pressure. It took them less than a minute to see that there was nothing wrong with it--they just needed to push the reset button on an electronic overflow valve/ leak prevention box. Then they charged me $129.50 for that. I know they have fixed costs but that seemed unethical to me. It took them longer to write up the bill than it did to fix my hot water heater. I've had other plumbers in the past who did a simple thing like that to my garbage disposal, charged about $30, and taught me how to do it myself next time. I hope there are still a few plumbing companies like that. I'll look for one next time. read more

I cannot say enough positive things about Petersen plumbing. After receiving an estimate from roto-rooter to fix a pipe which has burst in our bedroom wall we were in absolute shock at the amount it was going to cost to repair. Roto-rooter said it was a significant job and that the repairs would not be easy estimating the cost between 500-800 dollars depending on how many hours it took. These guys really helped me out of a problem, during covid, to replace my on demand hot water heater. Brett went above and beyond to help me find the quickest, least expensive solution and worked within the same size box on my house so I didn't have that additional expense and trouble. He and Chago (don't know if I am spelling that right) both wore masks and were very conscientious. Fast and courteous technician but DO NOT CALL this company any Plummer in town be less expensive and just as good.I called Peterson's to put knobs on a bathtub shower and a p-trap in the kitchen. They came to my house and made me wait over a half hour while he was doing other work on his computer in his truck after that he fixture one P-trap with my parts that I that I had there and cut one piece of PVC pipe of mine after the job was done I paid hundred and $50 with no guarantee and with no help with my other situation in the bathroom which all i needed was a spring and a seat called them back again hoping to get help with a simple faucet Spring and seat which was a Delta and cost me under five dollars TO recap now I've gotten a $200 bill and one P-trap fixed which I supplied all the parts for andcould've done in five minutes and no help whatsoever with my valve problem in my bathroom other than to tell me to go to Ferguson for the part which he probably had an his Peterson van Ferguson was very helpful and gave me the parts for under $5 which I had to install with no help after asking for help twice from Peterson read more

-EDIT- They called me the next day and informed me that what the plummer said was wrong, and what I was told over the phone was right. They will credit me the remaining time (they said around 38 mins) towards the hookup of the new sink. I changed my rating from a 1 to a 4 -End Edit They lied to me over the phone. I had to have my sink disconnected and reconnected for a countertop install. They said over the phone they would charge me 129 for an hour worth of work no matter how long it takes, and that they will add the time between both connecting and disconnecting. NOPE. Not only did they miss-scheduled my call, when the gentlemen did come, he took 5 mins disconnecting the sink, turned and looked me in the eye and said it would be 129. When I brought up the return visit he said that would be another 129. I told him about the conversation I had over the phone and he responded "She should not have said that, I talked to her about that before". I did not feel like fighting over the price, as they already lost my trust so I just paid the 129 and be done with it. BEWARE! Crazy stupid prices for little amount of work. read more

While I believe these folks do a good job, there are a few quirks that really, really show up on my radar. When I take time off from work and I have made an appointment WELL AHEAD OF TIME, I expect the plumber to show up within the hour they tell me. 2 1/2 hours later, here comes the plumber! That was the first phase of the job. The next time it was an hour later that told when the plumber would be there. The other downer was when the assistant came in to do the work, he had mud on his shoes and mud got in both bathrooms and then in the one bath tub when he wasn't even working on the tub. When I asked the owner, Bernard, about the tardiness, he defended his companies actions and saw nothing wrong with it. WOW! As I stated, I think the plumbing job was done well, I just don't like the rock-star attitude and most likely will not use them on future projects (which I have two pending). Price as an FYI was fair, but my time lost is worth something, believe it or not, so I have to factor that in and would have to say it was a little high. read more

I have used Petersen since 1987; that day they were the third plumbing company to be called and show up, and the only ones with the correct tools to fix a problem. Move to Thanksgiving eve, 2014. I called them at 3:30 pm on Wed for an emergency. They were here in 1.5 hours, and stayed until almost midnight to get us working. Even the owner, 4th generation, showed up to help and stayed until the end. I've never had a problem with them being late or not having the tools needed. I scheduled a plumber to install the guts to bathroom renovations. I was told the hourly rate was $149, but I was charged over $200 per hour for a plumber plus a helper and they used my parts. The small job came to over $1,000, they did not install the guts in one of the showers, and there is now a slow leak where not had existed before. COMPLETELY DISSATISFIED! We had these guys come out too put two ends on a water supply for a fridge. Our manager wouldn't let us do it in case of damage. Wow, I'm in the wrong business. Two hundred dollars to put on two little ends. More then my doctor charges. Now I see why they say plumbers are thieves, they are, but from this point I'll never give a break on my work and if I do another plumber they'll be double. But at least it's done.
