He is calm, fair, and actually listens, which is something you do not see every day. Jack is also extremely honest, and while some reviews may not appreciate that, it is exactly what makes him a good and trustable lawyer. He tells the truth even when it is hard to hear, and that kind of honesty is rare but necessary in this field. He explains things clearly, never cuts corners, and always puts his clients first. His passion for helping others truly shows in the way he works.

However, his work is undertaken with haste and his follow-up communications - at least with me - were non-existent. I waited seven weeks to learn the outcome of a Demand Letter that contained a seven-day stipulation to respond. Moreover, Mr. Haller did not contact me. I contacted him. This occurred in spite of the fact I had just undergone cancer therapy and was told by Mr. Haller, "Forget about all this. Leave it to me." Instead, I was the one who was forgotten about. Combined with an error in his Demand Letter and inaccurate charges in his billing (which Mr. Haller acknowledged), I did not retain this lawyer to pursue my case in court. The problem? Mr. Haller has too many clients to pay careful attention to all his files (or, at least, not to my file). And he is disorganized to boot. Plus, hang on to your wallet. I was billed for the time to cut a cheque to return the balance of my in-trust deposit - even though, in effect, I fired Mr. Haller. Subsequently, I hired another lawyer with whom I am delighted. For starters - unlike Jack Haller - my new lawyer estimates the cost of his work and bills me for the work as it is performed. There is no up-front retainer - something I dislike. With a retainer, if there's a dispute about the charges or quality of the work, the lawyer has you over a barrel. Plus, my new lawyer does not have a waiting room that is crowded with backed-up appointments. And - unlike Mr. Haller - my new lawyer did not try to sell me a legal service I wasn't seeking. (As I was leaving my meeting with Mr. Haller, I mentioned I was getting married. His immediate comeback was "I can do you a pre-nup for $500.") Bad timing. Bad taste.
