So we have been frequenting Petco a lot because of our new rescue pup. I am mainly writing a review because of how great most of the employees are, especially Courtney. She was so helpful on two separate occasions and just a genuinely nice person. I did not get the names of the two guys (one helped on the floor, the other a cashier) who I met or another girl cashier, but so many nice people here. There was only one Debbie Downer chick who was a cashier. I do hate how pricey it is here----go to Ross/ Marshall's for dog toys and beds! This review is for the store and their workers only. I feel weird leaving a review for a store, but I am so thankful that the workers here are so helpful and courteous. The grooming reviews scare me. Yikes! Good to know if I ever need a dog groomer. read more

We got our 3 year old daughter her pet parakeet from this Petco yesterday evening. We had the pleasure of dealing with the store manager Mr. Willis directly. We weren't sure about what kind of pet to get our daughter as a first time pet owner & he spent a great deal of time with us explaining everything that we needed to know regarding frogs, hamsters, mice, fish & birds. He went through the pros & cons & basic care for each animal. At the end we chose the parakeet as it was the best option for our 3 year old. We love this Petco location & will continue to get all pets needs from here. read more

Do yourself a favor and NEVER bring your pet here to be groomed. A couple of years ago I would've never thought I'd be writing a negative review on their groomers. They no longer have anyone I'd ever let near my pets again. Wasted $60 more then once ( my own fault for trusting them), and had my cat and dog returned to me smelling worse then when they were dropped off. They'd "forget" to cut their nails, and once returned my cat to me still very damp and expected full payment. One groomer literally shook her out of her carrier and was shocked that she was afraid of them. There was never a time that I'd get my pet back happy or even their usual self. My cat would hide for hours once she came back. Finally got tired of the way they cared for my pets and switched to All pets near smart and final. Don't waste your time ! read more

My mom brought our dog here for a haircut. The groomer said she had to shave our dog's ears because they were matted, but I think she just wanted an extra $10. When she picked up our dog her ears were all bloody inside. Two days later she had to go to the vet because her ears had razor burn. $138 for the vet bill. Never coming here again, I do not recommend this place for pet grooming! Our poor pup keeps shaking her head because of the discomfort! read more

I needed a few supplies for my fish tank and decided to give this Petco a go. Once I arrived I was greeted very respectfully by a worker named Nate. He asked how my day was and asked if he could help me. I said yes and he respectfully assisted me with all that I needed. All in all I believe Nate is a very good employee and should be recommended for a higher position. I believe he went out of his way to make sure all my expectations were met. My girlfriend and I started a new fish bowl aquarium and unfortunately some of the guppies died due to high Ph, we fixed the problem and when we went back to purchase more the female assistant stated that she could not sell us any fish because we did not have a filter to our fish bowl. At no time did the other assist who helped us the 1st time made mention of not being able to sale us guppies for not having a filter when we explained our intentions. I further explained to the the young female assist that internet research stated that there's 10 types of fish that can live without a filter. Her reply was that you can't believe what you read on the internet. I asked her what is the life span of a guppy. Her reply was 10 years with a filter. If the internet is so faulty then I guess the life span of a guppy that I read states has 1 to 3 years span. Is completely false as well. I ended up another Petco without any incident and got our guppies. read more

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. I personally love this location! I live really close by so I stop by often to stock up on food and supplies for my kitten. The associates are always so helpful and friendly. They always have a smile on their faces even when lines are long and customers are complaining. They always remind me to use my rewards and take the time to scan my coupons. Just got back from the Vetco Clinic inside Petco. I have a 19 month old male Belgian Malinois that needs to get up to date on his Vacations. I always put a mussel on him because he gets nervous inside the store, he has never bit anyone and had seen the same vet last year. When it was time I brought him in and the vets assistant took his weight as she back away my dog started to bark with a slight lunging motion. Remember my dog has a mussel on and I have the dog fully in my control, I'm 6'2 220lbs. The vet immediately asked the assistant, DID HE JUST LUNGE AT YOU! She just kinda of shrugged her shoulders like she wasn't sure. After that the vet looks at me and says that they can't help my dog because he lunges and refuse to give the Vaccinations or offer any advice on how to remedy the issue. If she cared at all she should have given me a sedative to calm him down for the next visit so they could administer the vaccines. I'll have to call around and find a real Veteran that's not afraid to do their job and actually CARES! read more

Brought our two Maltipoos in for grooming today. To be fair the groomer who was female and took care of our male older dog and actually groomed him nicely. Albert groomed our puppy and had warned us our puppy had matted hair and he'd ave to cut her body hair short to get under the matting. Reluctantly we agreed and asked tat he just trim her tail to leave her some style. When I picked the dogs up the puppy had been shaved from head to tail like the groomer was running an assembly line. The only reason I've gone here is for lack of pet stores that sell crickets in the area. You would think snails took over the brains of the employees who work there. Go ahead and try to get service quickly. I've been there often, and each time I request crickets, someone has to call over the intercom at least three times, then when an employee finally comes it takes at least another ten minutes to get 30 crickets. Then you have to wait in line. Last time I was there, there were two cashiers and two customers. One of the cashiers had to tell the other cashier a joke while I was waiting to get out of the store. Wow!!!! Honestly, I'm done, I'd rather go a few miles out of my way to go to Reptile Finders. read more

I've been going to this petco for pretty much my whole life for all needs of all the pets I have had since childhood from dogs, cats, birds, fish, and hamsters. Petco always had everything and the employees were always knowledgeable and knew what they were doing and talking about. That has pretty much diminished. The only reason why I'm not giving it 1 star is because of 2 employees that I trust there. I really wish I could remember their names but I believe the girl's name was Madison. She has helped me with the first Chiweenie from treats and shampoos and has always had a great attitude. She even helped me with new necessities for my newest Chiweenie on the day I got her. The other employee I don't remember his name but he does have gauges in his ears. He always has a smile on his face at the register and talks to you about your dog when you have them with you. Now time for the low points. The groomers are what will really bring this place down. Reading the other reviews they are described as inexperience, incompetent and rude. I had to bring my new Chiweenie to get her nails trimmed. I usually take her to Petsmart because they not only do a better job charge that much but because they know how to handle her. She hates getting her nails trimmed to the point where she screams. They take precautions at Petsmart to not have her on the table so she has to be held. When I took her there they told me 5:30 was the earliest they had so I took her to Petco. I explained to them that she is difficult and that she has to be held or she'll scream and freak out. They tell me fine and to go walk around the store. So I walked around the store and got her a treat to help her calm down after the trimming and come back to get my dog. I asked if she was any trouble and the girl said when she was on the table she did but stopped when she held her. Didn't I tell you she would do that? Why would you test that and scare her? The girl told me she left a note on my dog's file for the next groomer that she needs to be held. But the trouble started the next month when I took her for another trimming. It was a different girl and I told her the same thing I told the other groomer and apparently there was no note on my dog's file about needing to be held during trimming. After walking around the store again I walk back inside the groomer area to an ear piercing scream, knowing it was from my dog. I looked over and saw the girl trying to hold my dog nearly lying on her back trying to hold her by her paw. The groomer eventually gave up and gave me my dog back. She told me to come in tomorrow when there was another person with her because my dog was to much to handle and she had only gotten through 1 paw. When I came back the next day and walked around and came back another scream from my dog. By the time I got my dog shoved back to me the girl just looked at me as if telling me to never bring my dog in again. Her body language said it all. So I won't be bring my dog back. I'd rather take her to someone who is more experienced and patient, not these a-holes. read more

Looks like I dodged a bullet based on other reviews. I had an appointment today but accidentally went to the wrong store. I called the store and they told me I would need an updated rabies vaccine (fine, I have that) and a Vet release letter for his mild heart condition. I call the vet and it sounds impossible to get such a letter today so I call the groomer back and she's very nice and tells me that her manager has required a vet letter for any heart condition so I cancel the appointment. 15 minutes later my vet's office calls back and says they got the letter and will send it to me. Yay! I call Petco back to see if I can still keep the appointment and end of being rudely told by some different man that "under no conditions will they groom a dog with a heart condition because it could have a heart attack on their table." I explain to him that this is a completely different message than what the groomer had told me and why would I waste my time otherwise getting a letter from my vet and he rudely continues to talk over me insisting that this is their policy. I have been going to Petco grooming for some time (not this location) and my dog is always fine and they have a release of liability that I have to sign as the responsible owner of my pet, so I know this is not the case. Anyway, what a waste of time and I'm glad I dodged this bullet. read more

If this one star could go for all petco stores I'd be very happy. & if I could give NO stars I would. But where to start? Hmm.. How about 9 months ago when Was going to stock up on puppy necessities... I walked into petco hoping that somebody would help me out with a premium puppy food.. Two staff members stared at me as if I was crazy when I asked. One of them told me to "check out Natural Balance"... Seriously? Natural balance is not premium!!! I then went on to ask what makes natural balance a premium diet (just to see what they'd answer) & they both got a manager to help me out. So their staff is clearly in knowledgable on the product lines that they carry which is a big NO NO in my book. How can I trust that you guys are really helping me out if you don't even know what it is that you're selling? Second, the main products that they carry are royal canine, purina, Iams, etc. I think the best line that they carry is blue buffalo. I'm sorry, I refuse to pay for CRAP for my dog... If you choose to own a dog you take full responsibility. Third, I have a big dog who's still a puppy & I'm tracking his growth... I walked in looking for a scale & the only scale they have is one sitting on the checkout counter. What are you guys weighing? Snakes? The whole petco company is disappointing. One of the leading pet store chains in the country & they're horrible. If you guys get a chance, check out CENTINELA. It's right next to Trader Joes. Totally worth the visit. read more

Jessica has been wonderful with both of my dogs. I've tried many groomers and each has commented about my dog's quirky behaviors. However, Jessica has never complained about my dogs. Adopted my dog from the Harbor Animal Shelter in San Pedro. Took her straight to the grooming salon for a good bath since she was in the sheler for almost 2 months and was very dirty. Ordered the medium package that included nail clipping and a cute bow or bandana. Picked her up and failed to notice that her nails had not been clipped and took her home. I have wood floors through out and it was clackady clack all night! Had to take time out of my morning to go back and I do not live in that city showed tham her nails, no apology and when i mentioned that she never received a bow either, they just handed me a bandana! I purchased multiple guinea pigs from,this location and i ended,up getting one with ringworm and she was still under warranty. The manager Larry said that they will treat her but i don't get to keep her and that it will take 4-6months to cure. Also that they send their animals to south shores. So I called the vet and they dont even deal,with petco, also I did my own research and my guinea pig is 100% all lesions gone and her hair is already grown back and it took only 3 weeks. read more

I come here because it is a name I trust but not so sure if it's where I'd like to continue going for grooming services. They are a bit pricey. I have two cock-a-poos and always pay anywhere from $70-110 for them a piece. I can only take one at a time which I would love to be able to bring them both home at the same time one looking as great as the other. They usually do a pretty good job though in getting done whatever is asked at that particular time. What I don't like is how they say if you don't like what they did the service is free but they won't even let you see your dog until after you pay. read more
