In 2020 I adopted a baby Shi Tzu, I took him to the Torrance location in the Crossroads shopping center, he was only about 2lbs at the moment and only about 8wks old. Once I picked him up the groomer mentioned that he bit one of the groomers and he was nipping at the shears so my little 8wk old pup was banned from getting groomed there. I called today (4 1/2 years later) but to the San Pedro location since I am a Pedro resident to see if they will take him in since his regular groomer is on vacation to see if they can groom him for us but came across a very rude lady that wouldn't even let me talk, apparently once I gave her my number she was able to see notes from almost 5yrs ago when my doggie was literally weeks old and told me that "I could not take him there because he was aggressive" I tried telling her that when that happened my dog was a baby and he is now a full grown adult and he is no where near what he was when he was a baby. This rude lady did not even allow me to speak, she was talking over me. I will make sure I never set foot in a Petco again, I normally buy my dog his food at this location but I will not even be doing that anymore because these people do not deserve my business. GET IT TOGETHER PETCO GROOMING, you already do not have the best reviews and now I see why. Hire people that are actually good at customer service if not you will be the next business going out of business. read more

closed 20 minutes early for no reason. we literally saw 4 other cars pull up around the same time we did tonight and the girl inside had the doors already locked and acted like she didn't even see the lady standing at the door trying to get in while we sat in the car and watched. It's really hard for people to work all day and find time to buy food for their animals so you'd think they would stay open till their "closing time" of 8:00 but i guess that time is just a suggestion lol. read more

We love Petco San Pedro shop. It has a totally different customer service environment than the PV Petco shop. We had a bad experience when we were at PV Petco shop and will never go back there again. At the SP Petco store the staff are so nice and knowledgeable. My kids met a staff member named Mark, he showed my kids a lots of little animals, taught them what the animals like, what animals like to eat... Thanks mainly to Leah, this Petco location gets a 5 star. Every time I go to this Petco and have Leah as my check agent, she always goes above and beyond her duty. She always looks for my pals rewards to let me know when I have any, she'll also let me know when to look up a product on the website for better deals, etc., all while having her hand in a brace, yet NEVER complains, but I know it has to be painful. She is truly a blessing in that Petco; why she isn't a manager is beyond me, possibly she just doesn't want the position... This has been a very hurtful and frustrating experience my dog had to go through at Petco for being the very first time taking my little girl there. I called petco grooming departmen Saturday to see where I could take my dog to the E.R. asap and if petco was going to cover the bill. I left several voice messages and I only got a hold on Sunday. After I called several times and no one was responding back. I had to calle the main line to Petco and I left a message to the manager in charge of that department. One of the staff call me back about 2hrs later. I ask him where I could take my dog to be seen as a emergency and I need to know if petco was going to take care of the bill. the assistance kept saying that my dog already had an appointment on Monday to see the Vet. I didn't want to take my dog on Monday because I have to work in the evening. I needed to take my dog Sunday to the E.R because my dog didn't look look good. The staff kept going around my question so I hung up the phone. Took my dog on Monday 4:30 p.m. to see the Vet where petco had made the appointment for my dog. The doctor told me that my dog had suffered a very bad burn and cuts to her neck. The doctor told me that the blade must of had gotten to hot and they got to to close to the skin causing my dog to been shave all the way to her skin. Now I will miss another day of work in order to be able to take my dog to the vet because the Doctor needs to seen if there's any progress and see if the infection has gone down. I will never ever go to petco again. I will make sure to put my experience on social media so people could know what happend to my little girl at petco.. I want petco to compensate for the negligence and careless of petco. Just getting a refund won't due for the suffering my little girl went throughout :( read more

I love this place. I signed up for dog training with my 4 yrs old toy poodle, Chou Chou. I was a bit nervous and skeptical about the dog training at Petco. I signed up for 4 lessons of one on one sessions. James was the trainer, he was such a nice person and a great trainer. Chou Chou and I really liked him. I'm new to town so I didn't know a groomer to call to take care of my Puggle, so in a pinch I called Petco. Bella, my dog, is pretty simple. A bath, blow dry, nails, glands and teeth brushed. From the moment I called, they were prompt, courteous, and very thorough. The person who answered the phone even called my previous Vet in Fort Collins to verify Bella's vaccinations being up to date! Wow, talk about service. Once that was verified, they called me back within a few minutes to set the appointment, which was SAME DAY! Just what I needed. Martha took such good care of Bella from the moment we arrived till when I picked her up 90 min later. They were a little busy when I picked Bella up, no big deal at all. The one person in line ahead of me was getting a consultation for grooming their little Yorkie (I actually enjoyed watching the interaction. They were consistent with their level of service and communication). Anyway, a few minutes after I left and got home, Martha called to ask if I had any questions and apologized for not being able to talk to me before Bella and I left. Wow! I did not expect that! What amazing service. I would have expected all this from a boutique, not a box store. I'm so happy to have found a convenient, clean place to take Bella, but even more happy with the level of service and quality they, and Martha, provided. Thank you, Martha. You're terrific. Sammy is a WHOLE LOT of dog (97 lb German Shep/ Rottweiler mix) to deal with. when we got her back she not only smelled awesome Teresa added these blue little bows! Which we thought was a cute little touch! Especially since everyone always thinks Sammy is a boy lol Sammy got a bath, teeth brushed, nails trimmed (including her dewclaws), got a deshedding soap during bath because her coat is thick!, got blow dried & etc. Thank you again Teresa for taking care of our big-oh BabyGirl! The store is fine , it's just the grooming here . I brought my Australian Shepard to get bathed and if needed a small trim but if you know anything about aussies they don't get shaved . So I feel bad saying this but I feel that a groomer should know better on how to groom different kinds of breeds. Another thing I don't like is they make you pay first before they hand you your dog . So I pay & add a tip not even seeing my dog yet. When I came to turn in proof of payment they bring my dog out and I didn't even recognize her. Not only they they ruin her coat they left her all uneven 70$ dollars plus tip later . I instantly said"will her hair grow back the way it was "and she just says" yes"and I'm looking at her so confused like you really think you guys did a good job!?. What a sad, bad joke this store has turned into. Went in for some dog treats for our picky eater and more importantly for some Capstar flea meds the vet recommended since the 90-day Bravecto pill he sold us lost effectiveness after 30 days. None of the brands of treats were in stock. They had boxes of Capstar but they were all EMPTY. Glad I checked before I stood in line at the register!! I would have asked the cashier but she was jammed up with a dozen people in line (I counted) who apparently found some of what they were looking for. I would have bought online but I wanted to minimize the time before my dog could get relief from his fleas. Obviously online is the only avenue we have since this place is trying to get $51 + for empty flea med boxes - which won't help our dog. And the brick and mortar stores wonder why they're losing so much business to online retailers. This is a perfect case study on the topic. read more

This is probably my favorite pet store in town. If this is the place you're going to spend your money for your pets, this is the place to do it. You and your pets are paid attention to the time you walk in, to the time you walk out. The service is prompt, the returns are accepted with proper proof, and the employees (Leah, Katrina, to name a few) are exceptional. The Katrina was able to give us some great guidance, and was especially helpful for pairing pet food, toys, and bed's for our current 3 year old kitten Kashmir. I adopted a cat at the harbor animal shelter on Saturday. They told me to go to the PetCo on Western for everything I might need. I went and Lily (Liliana) was so helpful. She helped me for close to an hour. I wasn't going to leave my cat in the car so I brought him in the store with me. Her assistance meant even more to me when she told me she was allergic to cats. She was very friendly and super helpful. She explained the various products very thoroughly. I can't say enough good things about her or her customer service. She deserves a raise or at least some kind of recognition. read more

Pet training is okay, you learn very basic tricks. If you were looking into solving a specific problem then I wouldn't bother. Not sure if it's different in normal times but I walked away with one new command for my one year old and still having the same issues we came in with. My real problem is with the grooming. Nobody ever answers, I've had groomers talk to me in a very judgmental tone about not walking my dog every day (hello it's covid!! I have remote work and kids at home!) I mean this lady would not drop it, and on top of that they close all the online appointments. So you have to call the store, be on hold forever, just so you can book an appointment. I'm sure there is a reason why you close online booking but you gotta find a better system. Honesty I always had a good experiences until my dog got injured last month at the groomers and we weren't told about the injury which look I get it happens but atleast tell the people what happens we know we can't sue but it could get infected if we aren't aware of these injuries. I didn't find out until I realized she kept sleeping a lot more so I got worried and I had to take her to the vet I was informed that she was injured on her paw and her nail it looked like she got injured from a cut and we were informed that this could've happened at a groomer since they noticed her half finished hair cut and I was more upset that I wasn't informed more than she was injured and I found out I wasn't the only one who's dog was injured that day since I ended seeing another dog owner a few days later around the mall who told me her dog as well went to the same place the same day and we saw her dog had the same injury only on the other paw but the only difference the woman informed me that she went back in to tell the groomer and the girl told her she felt like she didn't need to tell her since it didn't seem that bad I would give the benefit of the doubt of how much of her story is true but still didn't put me at any ease knowing the groomer didn't tell me I know I should've posted this sooner but I have been treating my dog and working but I still have some photos of after the vet visit and her paw but all I wish is to be told what happens with my dog so I don't have to worry about what I did wrong and that way I can treat her after Incase of an accident read more

I came to pick her up and once I got home noticed she was acting very skittish and afraid, when I looked at her skin I noticed in many places on her body there was weepy and bloody skin like they had shaved her too close to the skin or scratched. Hey Petco Employees - good job pissing off my wife, the compulsive, impulse shopper while she was shopping with me. We walked in to buy a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff. When she asked where to find something, the young employee doing NOTHING gave my wife vague directions and told her to look for the glass case. When my wife finally found what she was looking for, it was indeed in the glass case ... which obviously required an employee to unlock. So, employee doing nothing, if you KNOW customer is seeking something you must unlock, why not escort her to the case? That way you can also answer questions and, if you're at all competent, upsell my wife (a highly probable prospect) into a pricier product. This is a systemic problem at this Petco, probably caused by bad managment or lack of supervision. Customers walking into this Petco are not greeted by anything other than the rank smell of dirty fish tanks. The high school-ish aged employees answer their cell phones while with customers or even while working the registers. No adult supervision; no pride in work space. FYI: This is based on my experience, since PetCo requested that it be removed as being "based on the experience of others." I was there, but my wife was the more upset of the two of us. I just walked in to buy a few products, nothing else. Normally Petco is not my choice- I have not had great experiences in any of them in particular, but this one did it. The store seems utterly disorganized. There are dead fishes in the tanks. The hermit crabs seemed in a pretty bad shape. They sell betta fish in little tiny containers- one fish per container (cruel as hell to me, but they're semi-aggressive so need to be kept separate)- and a lot of the containers on the shelves contained a dead fish in them! Are you serious?... On top of seeing all this- pet stores normally is a happy experience for me- the cashier was super rude for no reason at all, had no access to my rewards for some reason as well, to which her answer was a very short- "yuh, it doesn't work" and an evil stare back. Princess and I collected some hermit crabs from the tidepools in Palos Verdes. We came into the Petco, and selected a Beta fish aquarium to house our new pets. Bum deal - we discover the tank was cracked after putting the little critters in their new home. Ugh!!! Transferring back and forth between containers was not fun or healthy for the little critters. Parking was pretty decent at this plaza, but I still give them 2 stars for the damaged merchandise. read more

The store is a bit disheveled and there always seems to be a line because there is usually only one register open. We typically go only when we can't find what we're looking for at Centinela. The parking is hit or miss because there are only a few spaces directly in front of the store and they share the lot in a busy strip mall. read more

Petco is a standard for pet owners. The grooming is more on the expensive side but is expected. Most other places will be even more. Dog training is about $100 $150 I think. If Petco gets some better specials I will be back. You can also get the free rewards card. read more

Okay, here we go...if you read any of my other reviews you would find one about never taking my dog for grooming to anyone else but Kristy over at Peninsula Pet Clinic. Well how do you keep a peaceful household with a GF that is adamant about using another groomer because she saw another dog of similar traits come out of the groomer (in this case, Petco)? The truth is, you yell at the girlfriend in a strong toned voice, "NO WE'RE NOT USING ANOTHER GROOMER!!!" But I didn't do that...I should have but I didn't and, in turn, my dog looks hideous....all for a peaceful household (which is not so now). Petco might be good if your dog is seriously in need of a complete shave but terrible for anything considered a "grooming." Granted, my dog had a few matts behind his ears and a few around his butt that the young groomer explained away as "nothing I could do about it." Maybe she just isn't qualified to be a real groomer and sheep sheering should be her calling. Literally, I think they mistook my dog for a small sheep and thought they could make a coat from his fur because there was nothing resembling a dog when I got him back. After a not so pleasant drive home my GF called the store and spoke with the manager; wanting a refund or least a partial. They have a meeting tomorrow and I will post the results. As for anyone thinking they should take their pet to a Petco cookie-cutter grooming center or should I say, "sheep sheerer" think twice. Head South a couple of miles and ask for Kristy at the Peninsula Pet Clinic on 25th street... but call first to make sure she can take you. Something I learned from my mother who groomed show dogs when I was a kid...never cut the eyebrows to far back because unlike humans the brows block direct sunlight and keep the dog from being blinded. My dog's brows are seriously deficient for protection. Next time I won't hesitate to use my voice...scratch that, there won't be a next time! Say it with me, "NO WE'RE NOT USING ANOTHER GROOMER!" The follow up: My GF took our dog to speak with a manager and all we got was the guy who runs the "sheering" section. He admitted that the dog looked "choppy" and that the claws weren't done and and and and and...but still wouldn't take any real responsibility. He did offer to retouch everything up but we (the GF and I ) are aware of screw me once shame on you screw me twice shame on me. The GF wouldn't let him re-do anything and request a refund of which they adamantly refused. Conclusion: We probably spend a good $500 a year on items from Petco and though it doesn't make or break the store, if enough people read this post, then who knows how much more that $500 turns in to. As a consultant to retail businesses, I see this lack of integrity and quality care in business all too often and it's downright shameful. Petco...a word of advice-- Lacking customer care is the quickest way to permanently close your business doors. read more
