It's pretty hard to be anymore of a racist than the guy working in the fish section. My family and I were looking at saltwater fish. The worker never acknowledged us. It's also important to mention we're black. A white family comes in and he comes alive offering all kinds of assistance. They leave and he goes back to ignoring us. It's also very important to mention we drove from Birmingham AL because of the great selection of fish and coral. And they do! But the customer service was horrible. read more

I can't wear a mask because I have a health condition and I was ambushed at the door by 3 employees who physically blocked me from continuing. They told me that if I could not wear a mask that I had to leave, and that they did not care about medical conditions, then escorted me to the door. Never forget that at one point it was perfectly acceptable to put a sign out front saying "No Coloreds, No Irish, No Dogs". Discrimination like this, whether against POC and Irishmen in our past or against people with medical conditions today, should NEVER be tolerated. I don't recommend this petco. I bought a hamster there in December for a Santa gift for my daughter she is 7 years old. The hamster got had got sick they have a 30 day money back warranty and after I took it back he was still alive when I got there then I called them back the next day the hamster had died. I am so disappointed. I own a miniature poodle he will be 2 in June so Grooming is something he is use to. I chose Petco grooming because of the reviews and saw a standard poodle (a little stress relief). Well I'm glad I stayed around and watch them. They SHAVED through my dogs knots NOT EVN CUTTING THEM OUT. MY DOG WAS SCREAMING. They chopped his ears off. I even had them brushed and told the lady I would like them long because of his curls, ears plucked because they can tend to get bacteria in them. Absolutely disgusting experience. I brought my service dog here in a pinch after staying in a hotel he needed a bath before a conference. Checking in was a bit busy but went okay until I got into the tub area. IT IS DISGUSTING. They use unlabeled shampoo so you have no idea what it is. My dog has allergies so this is a huge issue. Next, the bottom part of the tub was broken and sharp and cut my dogs paw. The 1 brush available, the zoom groom, was moldy. There was no other supplies available besides these two things. There was a dryer but it was freezing cold air, not even room temp so it was way too cold to use on my dog. All of the walls are covered in grime and it's open to the back bathing area where I heard petco employees screaming at dogs being bathed. In addition to all of this horrible, nasty conditions I was told I needed to pay for a petco employee to wash my dog if I wanted a conditioner, another brush/comb, ear or nail supplies. I asked for a manager and was told none was available. DO NOT GO HERE. IT IS DISGUSTING AND MY DOG WAS INJURED! read more

Bree at Petco is wonderful and is why we keep going back to Petco for grooming services. We have two 50 pound mixes, one part chow, and she does a perfect length on him every time. They also have anxiety issues and the chow mix used to get sick after going to the groomer but not with Bree. We couldn't be more pleased with the de-shedder treatment and haircuts they get. read more

I go here for everything that I need for my bird and hamsters. They have a pretty good selection of anything you might want/need. My parrotlet loves the toys and treats I get from here. So the whole staff was really rude except for the one guy who works the fish tanks in the back and he was super nice. The guy at the register greeted me and asked what I needed (crickets) but then turned and walked away without saying a word because he went on break. My most favorite place to shop. They have the best selection of quality food ( I really like Spot's Stew), awesome treats, and cool toys. I even got my pillow from them. Sometimes I let them give me a bath and cut my hair. I like to meet lots of new people and their pets when I go, but my favorite thing to do is watch the ferrets play. Best aquarium section I've seen at a big box pet store. Great selection of coral fragments and a knowledgable staff. The biggest reason for 5 stars was what I saw. Petco and Petsmart are notorious for allowing people to buy a betta and instantly cram it into a tiny cup (read about tank cycling) but here I saw the employee convince two women looking at betta to get a nice sized 2.5g tank and plenty of places for it to hide. But also told them to hold off on getting the fish until the tank had gone through a full cycle. That's very impressive for us fish nerds. Focus more on the well being of the fish and not the bottom line of your income statement. read more

I purchased frozen fresh food and did not look at the date and fed it to my dogs. It it had expired. Advised the manager and told him there were still several bags of expired food in the freezer...no response.The frozen raw food is very expensive. I expect fresh, not expired food which you will not get at Petco. The manager has no idea what the ingredients are in the dog food they sell.it's junky and employees and managers are sloppy and not interested in assisting customers. Really disappointed with the service we received from the grooming department. This was our second time having a bad experience and we will not be back. Both times we wanted our small dogs nails trimmed/buffed and the same groomer did not properly trim them. We have a infant at home so it's really important the nails aren't sharp. We brought it to her attention today after receiving our dog back with sharp nails and she was still unable to fix the issue. Very strange because our dogs have never had an issue with competitors from the state we used to live in. I don't write reviews, but I have to lift up a person at Petco. The last few times I have been in the store, I have had memorable visits thanks to a cashier named Darius! He has the best positive and uplifting attitude. His friendly personality is super welcoming and treats you as a good friend he has not seen in awhile. I even heard him on the phone with a customer and I could tell he knows the products in the store and makes recommendations based on customer needs. He engages with every customer in a positive way. Petco should put that guy in a commercial, or make him a motivational speaker to inspire others, as this guy is simply electric. read more

Hi, I live in Opelika, AL and today 02/02/2017 I decided to stop by your Opelika Tiger Town location, now a decision I wish I wouldn't have made. First off walking into the building I witnessed a groomer snatch a small breed dog by the neck to turn it around. I understand she was working but if an animal turning around irritates you that much, then maybe this isn't the right line of work for you. Second of all this is by far the filthiest store I've ever been in. Water all over the floor near fishtanks, nasty fishtanks, mold growing inside of fishtanks, mold blowing out of air return on fishtanks, paper coming off the wall in the fish tank area, and most tanks with dead fish. Cabinets with supplies for fish open with stuff everywhere. Boxes and trash everywhere! Not to mention the amount of dust that was everywhere, to the point where one would rather hold their breath. All the beta fish cups were disgusting, Black and yellow stuff floating in cups. After looking around I decided to actually go look to see if the product that usually buy was available out of curiosity because it this point I was not buying anything. The products are usually purchase was out of stock, so I picked up the product beside it, and of course another issue. The product was out of date! And on another note, not sure if this is normal protocol or not but the cats just played out front did not have food or water, all of the lizards had no water either. I have several pictures that I will attach. This is unacceptable these animals do not have a voice for themselves! But other than the quality of the animals the store it self is filthy! read more

WARNING....DO NOT buy any fish from this store. I purchased 10 zebra danios and 10 neon tetras 10 days ago. All the Neons, 7 of the danios, and most of the other fish in what WAS a well balanced tank are now dead due to an Ick outbreak that was brought in with the fish purchased there. This has happened to me more than once! And I TRY to be very careful & inspect the tanks I intend to purchase from before I buy anything. Needless to say, after this same thing has happened more than once, I WILL be setting up an isolation tank for any new fish purchases and will NOT be purchasing them from Petco! read more
