James, the store manager hung up on me when I called to let him know the guy that I had to track down to help me with my pick up order was no help at all. employee told me I should get a buggy for how heavy it would be. I will not be back. this store has failed on customer service in the past, my fault for going back. won't happen again, there are too many options these days. read more

Great customer service. My dogs truly loved their experience. When I had questions or concerns, they answered my questions.

It's pretty hard to be anymore of a racist than the guy working in the fish section. My family and I were looking at saltwater fish. The worker never acknowledged us. It's also important to mention we're black. A white family comes in and he comes alive offering all kinds of assistance. They leave and he goes back to ignoring us. It's also very important to mention we drove from Birmingham AL because of the great selection of fish and coral. And they do! But the customer service was horrible. read more

Overall I have never had a pleasant experience with the staff members at this store, with the exception of two women that work in the grooming department. The check-out employees are incredibly rude without fail...to include the "GM" James. I will not shop there again, nor would I recommend to others! read more

This Petco is handy if you know what you need and require minimal interaction with staff. They have a pretty vast selection of grain-free canned cat and dog food. You can score extra savings with the Pals Rewards program too. The fish and reptile/amphibian sections are neat to look at, love the chameleons! read more

GO TO PETSMART INSTEAD. Some of the rudest employees I have ever met. I can't wear a mask because I have a health condition and I was ambushed at the door by 3 employees who physically blocked me from continuing. They told me that if I could not wear a mask that I had to leave, and that they did not care about medical conditions, then escorted me to the door. Never forget that at one point it was perfectly acceptable to put a sign out front saying "No Coloreds, No Irish, No Dogs". Discrimination like this, whether against POC and Irishmen in our past or against people with medical conditions today, should NEVER be tolerated. PETSMART is a way better place to spend money read more

Aquatics department has been closed "due to short staffing" many times and only two people working in the entire store. Some workers in aquatics seem very knowledgeable but the bald guy with beard has ignored me many times and is rude if you ask for help. Will be ordering fish from now on. read more

I don't recommend this petco. I bought a hamster there in December for a Santa gift for my daughter she is 7 years old. The hamster got had got sick they have a 30 day money back warranty and after I took it back he was still alive when I got there then I called them back the next day the hamster had died. When took my daughter to petco to get a new the hamster they refused to sell it to me. So I went across the street to pet smart and they sold one. read more

I purchased a algea fish from petco and 2 days latter all our fish we had in our tank died I am so mad and frustrated 2 of our fish were centimental to me and my boyfriend be careful what fish you get read more

This store is the worst. Staff is unhelpful (refused to help purchase supplies and necessities for a fish). Was extremely rude about returns and my inexperience. I hoped they would give me a more personal experience with advice and knowledge. Instead, there was no help or care given. Go to PetSmart across the street. The manager had a lot of attitude when it came to returns. The fish staff was rude, and claimed any container less than the largest size they had would be "torture". read more

I have been going to this store for years but this time i had a terrible experience with the guy in the aquarium area. He was rude and very disrespectful. I don't recommend going to this store it's better to order from breeders anyway. read more

Great store and employees at this location. Great new savings program called Vital Care Premier that saves you so much money!!

I am so disappointed. I own a miniature poodle he will be 2 in June so Grooming is something he is use to. I chose Petco grooming because of the reviews and saw a standard poodle (a little stress relief). Well I'm glad I stayed around and watch them. They SHAVED through my dogs knots NOT EVN CUTTING THEM OUT. MY DOG WAS SCREAMING. They chopped his ears off. I even had them brushed and told the lady I would like them long because of his curls, ears plucked because they can tend to get bacteria in them. THEY DIDN'T DO IT When I got him home he had red little blood dots on his body, his face looked like storm trooper. HES A POODLE NOT A TEDDY BEAR I am just crying. My husband said there's no point of a review but this just was not okay. read more

If I could leave a 0 I would. This place has to be self serve with no help unless you ask for it. Employees walk straight past you while looking at you as you as you go to ask for help to dive into another room and appear when you're farther away but then rush to appear to be "busy" right away when you approach. Left to go across the street to petsmart where right when I walked in they asked if I needed help. Don't bother to waste your time at Petco. read more

Absolutely disgusting experience. I brought my service dog here in a pinch after staying in a hotel he needed a bath before a conference. Checking in was a bit busy but went okay until I got into the tub area. IT IS DISGUSTING. They use unlabeled shampoo so you have no idea what it is. My dog has allergies so this is a huge issue. Next, the bottom part of the tub was broken and sharp and cut my dogs paw. The 1 brush available, the zoom groom, was moldy. There was no other supplies available besides these two things. There was a dryer but it was freezing cold air, not even room temp so it was way too cold to use on my dog. All of the walls are covered in grime and it's open to the back bathing area where I heard petco employees screaming at dogs being bathed. In addition to all of this horrible, nasty conditions I was told I needed to pay for a petco employee to wash my dog if I wanted a conditioner, another brush/comb, ear or nail supplies. I asked for a manager and was told none was available. DO NOT GO HERE. IT IS DISGUSTING AND MY DOG WAS INJURED! read more

Bree at Petco is wonderful and is why we keep going back to Petco for grooming services. We have two 50 pound mixes, one part chow, and she does a perfect length on him every time. They also have anxiety issues and the chow mix used to get sick after going to the groomer but not with Bree. We couldn't be more pleased with the de-shedder treatment and haircuts they get. read more

I go here for everything that I need for my bird and hamsters. They have a pretty good selection of anything you might want/need. My parrotlet loves the toys and treats I get from here. Most of the employees have also made an effort to remember me personally and are pleased to see me every time I come in. They are super nice people. read more

My most favorite place to shop. They have the best selection of quality food ( I really like Spot's Stew), awesome treats, and cool toys. I even got my pillow from them. Sometimes I let them give me a bath and cut my hair. I like to meet lots of new people and their pets when I go, but my favorite thing to do is watch the ferrets play. Too bad I can't get in their house to play with them. read more

Petco - Me shopping for toys. - Pet Stores Near Me - Opelika, Alabama

So the whole staff was really rude except for the one guy who works the fish tanks in the back and he was super nice. The guy at the register greeted me and asked what I needed (crickets) but then turned and walked away without saying a word because he went on break. The girl that took his place kept a yelling conversation going with the guy for about 30 seconds while there are 3 other people in line. She asked what I needed and was really rude while ringing me up, being snarky asking "Okay well what size? Small? Medium? Large? What?" Then told me to stand over to the side and wait while she talked to another customer about the fish he was purchasing. It was honestly just a bad experience. read more

No one helped me at the store--not even a greeting when I walked in ...nor assistance of help offered to me at no point during my visit. I did however walk past about 3 petco employees while in the store and not a one felt compelled to pull away from their social convos to acknowledge my existence in the store read more

Great place to shop for pet needs, good advice on products, and grooming, too. Pets are welcome, also. They are great about getting something ordered for you if they don't have it. read more

such helpful employees! i was able to get in and out in under 10 minutes and all the questions i had were quickly answered and shown with options! absolutely love and will be returning! read more

Well where do I start. I called over a week ago and made a grooming appt the lady stated at that time she just hired new groomers and gave me a scheduled date. So this morning at 8:00 Am I get a call telling me they have no groomers and I can call on two other dates to reschedule. Are they out of their mind they are Petco I will not be returning there for any reason. read more

Best aquarium section I've seen at a big box pet store. Great selection of coral fragments and a knowledgable staff. The biggest reason for 5 stars was what I saw. Petco and Petsmart are notorious for allowing people to buy a betta and instantly cram it into a tiny cup (read about tank cycling) but here I saw the employee convince two women looking at betta to get a nice sized 2.5g tank and plenty of places for it to hide. But also told them to hold off on getting the fish until the tank had gone through a full cycle. That's very impressive for us fish nerds. Focus more on the well being of the fish and not the bottom line of your income statement. read more

Hey Thomas, your review is spot on. Few years ago Petco had great managers and service. Now it is absolutely deplorable. I purchased frozen fresh food and did not look at the date and fed it to my dogs. It it had expired. Advised the manager and told him there were still several bags of expired food in the freezer...no response. The frozen raw food is very expensive. I expect fresh, not expired food which you will not get at Petco. The manager has no idea what the ingredients are in the dog food they sell.it's junky and employees and managers are sloppy and not interested in assisting customers. Petsmart is across the street, clean store and friendly staff. read more

Really disappointed with the service we received from the grooming department. This was our second time having a bad experience and we will not be back. Both times we wanted our small dogs nails trimmed/buffed and the same groomer did not properly trim them. We have a infant at home so it's really important the nails aren't sharp. We brought it to her attention today after receiving our dog back with sharp nails and she was still unable to fix the issue. Very strange because our dogs have never had an issue with competitors from the state we used to live in. We are now looking forward to the competitor store to open across the street from here. read more

Awesome store! Friendly knowledgeable staff that always go the extra mile for pets and their people!

I don't write reviews, but I have to lift up a person at Petco. The last few times I have been in the store, I have had memorable visits thanks to a cashier named Darius! He has the best positive and uplifting attitude. His friendly personality is super welcoming and treats you as a good friend he has not seen in awhile. I even heard him on the phone with a customer and I could tell he knows the products in the store and makes recommendations based on customer needs. He engages with every customer in a positive way. Petco should put that guy in a commercial, or make him a motivational speaker to inspire others, as this guy is simply electric. read more

Round of applause for this store! We had to evacuate from FL due to the hurricane and stayed at the towneplace suites auburn and they were nice enough to cheer everyone up with a hurricane party. Knowing the hotel was pet friendly Petco donated a ton of bags of dog treats for us evacuates, without being asked! Thank you for being such great neighbors :) read more

I love going to Petco to look at all the fun animals! I even bought a fish there one time named Mr Bubbles!!!! The birds are so cute! The only bad parts about it are the super bad smell and the lack of dogs and cats for sale! Less ferrets and more puppies! read more

Hi, I live in Opelika, AL and today 02/02/2017 I decided to stop by your Opelika Tiger Town location, now a decision I wish I wouldn't have made. First off walking into the building I witnessed a groomer snatch a small breed dog by the neck to turn it around. I understand she was working but if an animal turning around irritates you that much, then maybe this isn't the right line of work for you. Second of all this is by far the filthiest store I've ever been in. Water all over the floor near fishtanks, nasty fishtanks, mold growing inside of fishtanks, mold blowing out of air return on fishtanks, paper coming off the wall in the fish tank area, and most tanks with dead fish. Cabinets with supplies for fish open with stuff everywhere. Boxes and trash everywhere! Not to mention the amount of dust that was everywhere, to the point where one would rather hold their breath. All the beta fish cups were disgusting, Black and yellow stuff floating in cups. After looking around I decided to actually go look to see if the product that usually buy was available out of curiosity because it this point I was not buying anything. The products are usually purchase was out of stock, so I picked up the product beside it, and of course another issue. The product was out of date! And on another note, not sure if this is normal protocol or not but the cats just played out front did not have food or water, all of the lizards had no water either. I have several pictures that I will attach. This is unacceptable these animals do not have a voice for themselves! But other than the quality of the animals the store it self is filthy! read more

WARNING....DO NOT buy any fish from this store. I purchased 10 zebra danios and 10 neon tetras 10 days ago. All the Neons, 7 of the danios, and most of the other fish in what WAS a well balanced tank are now dead due to an Ick outbreak that was brought in with the fish purchased there. This has happened to me more than once! And I TRY to be very careful & inspect the tanks I intend to purchase from before I buy anything. Needless to say, after this same thing has happened more than once, I WILL be setting up an isolation tank for any new fish purchases and will NOT be purchasing them from Petco! read more
