He kept saying that it was a common skin tumor and no cause for concern. The growth got bigger and he said that it was still a common skin growth and that he didn't need to biopsy it. He partially removed the tumor making it flush with her skin. A month after he did this she became really ill and couldn't walk. He then said she had arthritis. I took Lanie to see him at least 6 times over the course of 2 months and he couldn't find anything. He said that he would consult with KU Medical and call me. He never called me and he never returned any of my calls. I must have called him at least 10 times. I took her for a second opinion and within 5 minutes the other vet found another tumor and diagnosed her with cancer. I don't want any other dog to suffer the way Lanie did and I don't want anyone else to go through the pain and guilt that I go through every day because I trusted "Dr" York. Everyday I regret not getting a 2nd opinion sooner and I wonder If I had if my baby girl would still be here. I reported him to the KS Board of Veterinarians and he was found to be at fault.

My Yorkie had suffered a seizure and stopped eating, i called and was told that they couldnt see him for a week. I explained that it was an emergency since the secretary was either too stupid or lacked any kind of decency to figure it out. I was told that dogs can live several days without eating- yes she actually said that. Then she said it will $180 for him to even look at him. After finding a better clinic in Lakin, I learned that he ate a toxin. He had to spend several days on an iv. he almost died thanks to Metzen and his heartless & ignorant staff. By the way Metzen also wanted cut my Huskies leg off, luckily went to k.u for other opinion & found out it required chemo, thankfully I didn't let him to that to my baby.

In June 2025, he also diagnosed her with bladder spasms, high blood pressure, and bladder tumors... yet he did NO TESTS to back up this claim. One week after the visit in June 2025, I took my dog to another vet in another town to see why she is having frequent urination issues. The vet did a full work up:urinalysis, bloodwork, and radiography. The results were a large tumor on her liver that appears cancerous. The frequent urination symptoms are sign of liver cancer. Dr. Metzen completely missed this. When I talked to him on the phone regarding these results, his exact response was "well cool". I was so shocked and irate at such a flippant response. I will never trust this vet again with any animal I own. The tumor had been there for a while and he would have noticed it, if he had actually done a physical examination and felt her abdomen, as it is distended on the side with the tumor. My dog will be having surgery next month to remove and biopsy the tumor and we will do chemotherapy if necessary. Dr. Metzen keeps sending me a bill for the services rendered in June. I am NOT paying unless he wants to reimburse me for the $433 vet bill that I had to pay at the other vet to get the correct diagnosis, just one week after he saw her. If he keeps sending me bills, then I will be forced to report him to the Kansas Board of Veterinary Examiners, which issues his license, for negligence and incompetence in treating my dog. Do not recommend this vet to anyone who truly cares about their pet because he obviously doesn't.

The owner never sticks to an appointment…read more She states it will be one and a half hours, but she often starts after she has had our dog for an hour and a half and we have to wait while she actually washes and cuts her. This last time the hair cut was terrible. Her ears and the top of her head looked like she had chewed the hair off. There were long hairs on her ear and they were very uneven. There was a clump of hair by her elbow and her feet were not trimmed. Her coat was very uneven all over. Put all this with the bad attitude she has and it makes it frustrating and disappointing to go there.
