The store is Filthy and small animals are in dirty glass cages, too many in each enclosure and without enrichment. I wish I had not looked at the ferrets, really kept in poor conditions. I will avoid Petco, have spent a lot there, but not anymore. I took pics of the ferret enclosure. read more

I recently went to petco in farmington nm. What happened to the day's when the customer was the person who decided on what it was they wanted to purchase. Well that's actually what petco is in busness for, to sell to customers. Isn't that correct? Well that's not the case anymore. If you don't know what size of a fish tank you have. ...your not allowed to purchase a fish..._if you don't know ever fish that is in your fush tank your not allowed to purchase a fish either!! When did it become petcos business what fish you can own? Well I will never go to petco, any where again, because of being refused to be sold 2 fish for my grandkids. They can shove all their animals up their ass..., and go bankrupt I hope, because they deserve just that.. They can deny me fish...because they think I'm cruel to fish...but they can keep poor wild animals in cages, denying them their freedom...when you put poor little animals in glass cages. . Bathroom is always dank and grungy, & toilet paper is usually a loose partial roll sitting on top of the dispenser instead of in it (so it can fall on the dirty, sometimes wet floor, and people's dirty fingers have to hold the roll in order to use it). Live pet foods in the small refrigerator (mealworms, earthworms, etc) are very sparsely stocked and most of them are nearly a month since the date marked on them (some much older than a month), with a lot of dead ones visible in the containers. The fridge doesn't seem cold enough. When I bought a tub of earthworms recently, the very next day I found a bunch fluffy white mold growing in the soil as it sat in my home fridge. (I removed the visible mold and thankfully it hasn't grown back in the many days since, and I'm finding plenty of live worms) This past weekend, out of the huge array of offerings of aquarium foods, 98% of the racks were completely empty (they're often sparse, but dang...). Some time recently, the selection of aquarium filters was very small and limited and there didn't seem to be empty shelves; apparently they just keep a very small selection. I ended up having to buy something very un-ideal so I'd at least HAVE something to use in my unplanned situation. Normally I order aquarium equipment on Amazon for this exact reason, but I didn't have opportunity for that this time. One employee beautifully overhauled and organized the big aquarium containing fancy goldfish and live plants, but the very next weekend someone had AGAIN dumped the entire underwater display riser of potted plants on its back so we couldn't see what was in the pots. There are no fish in there that are even close to large enough to do this. I can only assume some employee keeps doing it. Over and over. For weeks in the past, that display riser was completely upside-down, on top of the pots in it, so that nothing in it could be seen or bought, while there were obviously potted plants still in it. I can't figure what gets into the head of someone (or more than one) working there, sometimes. On the good side, interaction with employees there has always been pretty positive and the animals at least seem to be well cared for, as much as can be seen from the customer side. I've gotten a lot of fish and live aquarium plants there, and never had a diseased fish or unwanted snails (though I did recently see one aquarium contained a whole bunch of tiny snails, and I hope people know not to buy anything from that tank because there was no "under observation" sign or anything on it). The other small animals in the store also at least look healthy, and their display containers are always clean. And the one employee they used to have tending aquariums, who constantly gave confidently-stated misinformation about the fish and thoughtlessly endangered the life of a wing-clipped juvenile conure, doesn't seem to work there anymore. read more

On 11/19/23 I drove 15 miles from Bloomfield NM to Farmington NM to purchase some fresh water fish for my aquarium at PETCO. I picked out the fish I wanted and after 20 minutes I finally got someone to help me. I told them I wanted to purchase some fish and the told me they quit selling fish 20 minutes ago without any explanation as to why. This was at 3:00 pm. I wouldn't recommend this store to anyone. I have a big problems with stores that are not clean!! And this one is not. This leads to disorganization and an inability to find things. I lay this at corporate's feet. They are not demanding a standard. And, for an added bonus, there was dog excrement in an aisle. All in all-- it is not a pleasant store to visit. read more

We got our puppy, jax trained there 2 years ago. It was the best thing we ever did. Our trainer, Jordan was pet and people friendly. i so appreciate what he did for us. Training really worked. Our Jax still needs to be socialized. Wish i could have taken him back there for a second round of training but the Jordan, thee trainer is no longer with them. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. So I have saved for months to set my 55 gallon tank up with new decor, new lighting, and a brand new FX4 canister filter. Now I could have bought everything on Amazon but I like shopping at local stores. My actual local fish store doesn't carry the FX4 so I looked online to see if the Farming petco store did. The web site said they carried the filter and the 70lbs of sand I will also need. Thrilled I planned a trip to Farmington NM a 100 mile round trip from Colorado for the sole purpose of obtaining the things I need for this tank and fully willing to spend up to 700$ on aquarium supplies. But unfortunately the website and the store location are not in alignment. I was disappointed to find they had neither the quantity of sand in stock I need nor the FX4 filter. Their wasn't even a spot on the shelf for that filter. The store employee looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language when I asked if they have it some where I didn't find. She said and I quote "We are changing everything here, so maybe, we might, have that someday, I dunno." A totally useless reply. Then when I asked if they had more sand she tried to tell me the sand I was buying is for salt water only, then I told her I am setting up an African Cichlid tank, she shook her head and repeated "this sand is for salt water." I disagreed simply pointing to the bag and reading out loud to her "and African Cichlids" clearly she didn't know her own products. My Boyfriend then stepped in and asked again if they had more sand possibly in back? "No" was her only answer she wouldn't even check and see for us. Again useless customer service. Disheartened and frustrated all I could do was walk out of the store leaving behind my basket of 40lbs of sand for her to keep herself busy with reshelving. Guess Amazon will get my 700$. I'm just pissed I wasted half a day to drive all that way for nothing. When the website said it was in stock at that store specifically and ready for pick up. Get your act together Petco you can do better then this! read more

I would never recommend this store to anyone, not even my worst enemy! The manager met me at the door, as I was crying, because my dog had just died! I told him that I had returns to make, as my dog had just died! Due to the crying, my dentures became loose and fell out, in front of him and the other customers! He started yelling profanities at me and demanded that I leave the store! It was horrifying and demeaning to say the least! I not only was suffering from a horrible loss, but I got to be thrown out, physically, and I was humiliated by the manager! I would never ever go to any Petco, ever again! As for a rating-1,000,000,000!!! And that manager should have been fired!!! They have done nothing to resolve this! No further contact with me after I gave all information about the incident! WOW! Petco is always hit or miss for me. Some days the staff is very friendly and attentive and some days they can be rude and unhelpful. I used to get my freshwater fish from here but have had too many issues with several of the fish dying. Petco has yet to refund my money or replace the fish even a single time. I did some research and found out that their fish tanks are on a block system...if one fish is sick in one tank, it is carried over to all tanks due to water recirculating into all tanks. The store is usually very clean and have a good selection of food and supplies, but they are overpriced compared to deals I can get from various companies online. I dont recommend or not recommend this store...it is what it is. read more

horrible. it was my sisters birthday and we were going to buy a fish but the worker wouldn't even let us buy one because our fish tank was too small. first of all they are in little containers where they can't even move around and the tanks that they sell for them are smaller than ours and yet still we couldn't buy a fish. They don't have much on bird food and some of the bird food that is hanging is very hard and not soft. Have to go on line to buy bird food and the food I buy on line is soft not hard like the one that is hang up in the store. They also have specials for dogs and cats but not for birds. And not much toys either. Sometimes I go to Albuquerque to other pet stores to buy bird food too. read more

Petco! The best place in town to buy your pets whatever it needs. Prices are reasonable and they have just about everything you'll need. They also have reptiles, birds, mice, fish, cats, hamsters, and other little rodent - pets. I went there to buy my doggie a couple of toys and chewy pig ears, the staff as friendly and attentive.
