I love this store and their animals. From the look of things everything is kept up in the store from making sure shelves are stocked to the place being very clean. I'm new to having an aquarium and their fish nerd Elizabeth was AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!!! She knew soooo much about fish and which ones go together and how many could fit in my tank I really appreciated her knowledge. I did have a problem with two snails that I bought that never seemed to move. I exchanged them for two mini Zebra Catfish that I've been loving cause I found out they just don't stay on the bottom they are swimming everywhere and swimming/schooling with my Glow Tetra's I bought. For some reason my yellow Glow Tetra just died I called them and asked if I could get a replacement and they said yes of course. I have to bring the fish and a water sample in then they will give me another fish. Another stand-out of the store was your cashier Andrew. What a pleasant courteous person he was. Every time I visit the store I make sure to see if he's on cause I love saying hello and seeing how he's doing. Both him and Elizabeth deserve EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH and also a BONUS!!!!! The store is clean, well kept, well organized, everyone was pleasant and I was searching thru the aisles I was asked several times if I needed assistance. I've visited this location several times and have never encountered any problems. They constantly seem to move things around so I'm usually lost everytime I come in but I can find it easily after a few moments and if not, someone has always been willing to help. I've never used their grooming- cannot speak to that. I've never used their veterinary services, but my mother uses their vet for her dog and she loves them. read more

My wife and I brought an 11 month old Shih-poo we rescued from a disabled woman who could no longer care for him to the Brookfield store for grooming. During his 11 months of life he had been with 5 different owners. Poor thing has anxiety and hadn't been groomed in forever based on the length of his hair and nails, his fur was even matted in places! We explained all this to the groomers and also asked they do what they must but to leave his lil Mohawk. It took them 4 1/2 hours, during which she gave him the worst haircut (it's uneven everywhere), cut his face (which i didnt discover til later that night) and obviously didn't give him food/water cause the poor thing was starving and thirsty when he got home! read more

I frequently visit the Brookfield and Danbury Petco's. They are by far the best place for my animal needs. From what I read the grooming dept is lacking but I groom my own 2 dogs . I have set up 6 aquariums with their support. Emily runs the dept and she is irreplaceable IMO! Kendric is also a fabulous manager. Super helpful to us all the time. In Danbury Ron or Rob is super nice and helpful with my fish choices. I have koi, dogs, freshwater fish and invertebrates. We have had chickens, ducks, parrots. I've been going to petco forever. I LOVE the fact Petco is now focusing on healthy pet food. If that ladies cat food isn't carried it could be because it's inferior to what they do carry. If there were 10 stars I'd give them 10! read more

I usually try to go to the Petco out by the mall because of the service. The service here is very uncomfortable. There is one girl there that's always there with her dog. She acts as if she is above all people. Her tone is extremely demeaning when asking for help. She once tried saying my vet was wrong and I laughed. I'd much rather believe someone who went to school for years learning this versus a dog trainer at Petco - no offense. That's like a CVS staff member saying Doctor is wrong. Not to mention as she spoke to me she gradually started speaking louder and it seemed like she was talking down to me. When I tried getting a word in she continued to talk over me. I've noticed the staff at Danbury are a lot nicer and don't try to make you feel stupid or that they are better than you. I don't often leave reviews but my experience here was above and beyond. I am deaf, and everywhere I go when people discover that they treat me differently and are confused by ASL. But Connor who rang me out immediately smiled and used his phone to communicate. And then the next time I came in, he had learned enough sign to say hello and thank me. The store itself is awesome. Well stocked, clean, nice staff. That being said. Connor the cashier was amazing. So nice and polite. The Connor in aquatics??? Not so much. I went to get a fish for my daughter. I don't know much about fish and their needs so I asked him some questions and for advice. Every question was met with vague answers or shrugs. He didn't help much, and honestly I didn't want to ask any more questions because it seemed like he did not want to be asked. Very uncomfortable. Brenda at the Danbury Petco location did a phenomenal job on my dogs haircut. He was very nervous when we arrived because of negative experiences he had at other groomers and she quickly made him feel at home. I started taking my husky here to be groomed two years ago. At first, it was great. As a rescue dog, he was really skittish and they worked with me to help him get over his fear of the blow dryer. I'm not sure what has changed but the last few visits have gone from bad to worse. After dropping the dog off for an 8am appointment I was assured they would call once he was ready. At 2pm I finally got through and asked what the heck was taking so long. The woman on the end of the phone very nonchalantly tells me - "oh he's been done for hours. You can come get him any time." So my dog was unnecessarily sitting in a cage with no food or water for hours. Needless to say, I was not happy but figured I would give them one more shot - and it will be our last visit. They charged me an extra $10 "because there was a lot of fur". Only half the nails on his front paw were clipped and they cut part of his top coat along his side, so now the fur knots and pulls when I try to brush him. It is really too bad because it started out as such a positive experience. Maybe they just need new staff... read more

I would not recommend buying animals from here. I was sold a female teddy bear hamster that carried wet tail. She died before I realized she had wet tail. I bought a new one with the guarantee she was healthy. She lasted about two days until I started seeing signs of wet tail. So, I sent her back to petco to go to the vet. Days later I got a call she had died three days before. This same thing has happened to many of my friends, and in fact I went to the store a few weeks ago to find many dead hamsters in the cage. I gave this location another chance, and I than found two more dead hamsters. This location sells hamsters that were born prematurely and therefore got wet tail, and had to suffer because of it. I was stunned when my husband brought our retriever back from being groomed. Her fur was hacked, her tail had a huge gap, her neck was untrimmed and she smelled of some awful flowery scent. Our Disney get so excited whenever we bring her to the grooming salon at Petco for a spa treatment and the people there treat her like a queen. They all know her by name and play with her when she comes in. They do a great job of getting her cleaned up and she always comes back looking and smelling great. read more

Dear Petco: I was recently informed that the brand cat food I purchase there will no longer be available in a few months. Because your company is transitioning to your own brand. I can understand why you would want to do that BUT I don't need the cashier telling that I will have to start transitioning my to cat to your brand of food. It does not work that way. If Petco decides to stop offering any of the brands I like to purchase, I will find another source. Probably online if I have to. My pup came back from grooming clean and shaved, which is really all I was looking for going in. They did shave a bit close in some areas and she has been licking those areas nonstop, but I can't really say much since she was pretty matted to start. One thing I noticed is that they didn't cut her dew claws which are pretty long and have been bothering her lately (I'll make sure to request that specifically in the future), but overall one of the cheapest and fastest places to get your dog groomed if you're in a pinch. Staff was kind and accommodating and the price wasn't too exorbitant (cost me about $60 for a full cut/shave and bath here for a 25 lb dog whereas in my hometown I was charged $120 at my local groomer). read more

This place is a joke. I have been using the grooming department for a few years now and up until recently I have had no issues. During the past year and a half I have had 3 appointments cancelled on me (including today's) with no call telling me they were cancelled and when I get there no explanation why or who cancelled it. This most recent appointment was even set up by the store manager Mark because of the issues that I have had. The reason Mark had to set up the appointment was because when I was in there in April the person at the desk taking in my dog stated some things about my dog that I never heard about or was told about said issues. The person working the desk in April stated that in my file my dog has showed aggression and if she is too aggressive then they would stop where they are and I would still be charged. This comment really upset my family and I. We have a goldendoodle breed dog that has never showed any signs of aggressive behavior (besides licking you). As well as every time we go to pick her up no one has once said anything bad about her and when I ask how was she they always say fine. The service at this location has dropped so far that it makes me wonder should I even continue to shop at Petco because I know I will never bring my dog back to this location for grooming. read more

Do not buy fish here. Even after remodeling the fish department. They cannot take care of any fish correctly. The employees have no common sense. You will see 20 fish in one small tank and then another tank with only 4 in it and they would be the same species. Every time I have come here, I will find at least 4-5 dead fish in separate tanks. I've seen one employee tap on the glass to catch the fish in the net, basically putting so much stress on the fish it can be dead by the time you walk out the store. read more

I returned an item purchased on Petco.com to the store on Federal Road. I had all the receipts and the credit card it was purchased on. They would only issue a store credit for the return. Most other retailers with web sites and physical stores would credit the return to my credit card. Petco did not. Purchased an expensive electronic collar and was assured I could return it if I didn't open it within 60 days. After 30 days, I attempted to return it. The manager told me that without the ORIGINAL receipt I could not even get a store credit. They saw that I purchased it (Pals member) and could print me a receipt but because it wasn't the original they could not do anything for me. This collar was over $100, never opened. Epic fail. I took my long-haired cat here to be groomed. The groomer seemed so great over the phone - she let me bring the cat in on a Saturday without an appointment and said she could do the few things I needed quickly. I'd asked her to remove a few mats, cut the nails, and do a sanitary shave. When I got there, she said it would be 45 minutes (not quick). I stood outside the window and watched her chat away with her colleagues while barely paying attention to how she was brushing my cat - she literally wasn't even looking at what she was doing. She clipped his nails, sprayed him with some kind of conditioner and threw him in one of those cages with a blower after less than 10 minutes, which means she was going to leave him sitting there for 35 minutes. I came in at that point and made her take him out and give me him back to me. When I got him home, the back of his legs were shaved down to the ankle (this is NOT a sanitary shave), he still had mats, and his nails were still sharp. She charged me nearly $70 to fake-groom him.
