The empanadas were so yummy I keep coming back for more! Then I tried their tamales and was equally pleased. They were different but honestly I liked them even better than Mexican style. A very big plus is that they carry a wide variety of Mitchell's ice cream. I grew up in the city so like many love that ice cream. IYKYK! Plus the owner, Cesar is so pleasant, nice and so friendly. The staff here was personable, sparking up conversation and super friendly. We ordered two sandwiches, and I was surprised at how great they were. The sourdough bread was tangy, the meat was sliced super thin (which somehow makes it taste better?) and all the veggies were super crisp and fresh. We stumbled on this place by mishap, but my husband and I agreed it seemed like a place we would actually seek out. This meat was supposed to be dinner for my kids, and it was completely spoiled. When I brought it back to the store, they passed it around for everyone to smell. Everyone agreed it smelled bad, yet they refused to give me a refund and would only offer store credit. That's very disappointing customer service. They then gave me replacement meat, but when I got home, that meat was spoiled too. I didn't go back because they already seemed upset that I had returned the first package. What concerns me the most is that they continued selling the same batch of meat instead of throwing it away. If multiple packages are spoiled, the responsible thing to do is pull the product from the shelves to protect customers. I'm very disappointed with this experience. Please do better when it comes to food safety and customer service.

Anyway, on this which grocery run between kindergarten and second grade pickup, I told my younger daughter that we weren't going to get treats (which was tough, given how alluring the Christmas display are--and yes, I'm hitting those next week). The store was packed because, it turned out, Thursday is "senior day." My vegetable loving daughter picked out some beautiful oyster mushrooms and a bunch of carrots in lieu of a treat. But then, at the checkout, the lovely cashier offered her a candy cane (after asking my permission) and a balloon. My daughter gleefully exclaimed, "And you said I wouldn't get a treat!" As my kindergartner beamed amidst the crowd of Thursday senior shoppers, I thought about how meaningful local businesses like United are to the community as a whole, from schools to sports teams to seniors.

To make it worse, this employee was later identified to me as the owner's/CEO's son, which explains the complete lack of accountability and respect. Shaming a mother after she paid for damages is disgusting behavior. If this is how leadership allows customers especially parents to be treated, it says everything about this business.
