History

Established in 2015.

Located in the Brady Street neighborhood of Milwaukee, WI our boutique has a rather romantic story behind its inception. The boutique operates in tandem with the PB Studio space where patrons can not only stop in to purchase some of Milwaukee's best handmade goods from over 50 local makers but also experience the atmosphere of a working studio space. In the spring of 2015 we were approached by Etsy to take part in their pilot program, Etsy Fund to help makers grow their businesses. At the time I was working from a spare bedroom in my home and my husband, a metal sculptor, was in a transitional studio space. With the birth of our first child and need for larger, optimized and child-friendly studio spaces the proposal from Etsy was a perfect fit! We were able to successfully fund our mission to create not only the needed studio spaces but also a beautiful and blossoming brick and mortar storefront.

Meet the Business Owner: Kamryn B.

I have this memory from when I was a kid of going to one of my brother's baseball games, and although baseball games were common for my family; on this one day in particular I had gone to great lengths to prepare a collection of colorful woven friendship bracelets to sell at the game. I meticulously documented each bracelet in a little notebook and went around the park showing off my wares. Although I didn't sell any (turns out eight-year-olds don't have much money) I still look back on that day as a landmark moment. I knew what I felt making those little bracelets and somehow I wanted to capture that feeling and continue to share it with others. Permanent Baggage started in 2007 as a public art project while I attended the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. Now more than eight years later the name stuck, though the products have greatly evolved. The PB Brand now employs 3-4 part-time assistants year round and offers a range of products from patinated jewelry to leather totes.
