The HERO - Alex Perez, Pep Boys Service Manager, went above and beyond to help my son who broke down in the middle of the desert on his way home from San Diego, Ca to Phoenix, Arizona. My son is a military veteran and needed to get home to see his family. After USAA towed my son to the Pep Boys Tuesday night just before closing, he then had to get a hotel room for the night. Alex started on my son's truck as soon as he could Wednesday morning. The radiator was completely rusted and the clutch fan needed replacement along with hoses and all the other things that were necessary to make the truck run again. After completing this, I called to pay over the phone and Alex was actually worried to send my son back on the road due to the fact that the bearings and the compressor were bad too. He said that if he could keep it one more night that he'd go to a neighboring town and pick up the parts needed for the truck and replace them as well. We asked was there any way he could finish the rest of the work in the same day and he said no. So my son went ahead and booked the room again for another night. About 2 hours later, Alex called my son and told him the truck was ready to go and safe for the journey. I don't know how or if Alex drove to the neighboring town himself to pick up the other parts, but somehow he got those parts and stayed late to make sure that the truck got fixed that day! UNBELIVEABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I could not thank Alex enough over the phone. He said to me, "Well ma'am, I got to thinking about your son having to stay another night in a town he doesn't know, and wanting to get home to see his family. So I just got it fixed for him tonight." Tears flowed and I thanked him over and over and over. Alex went above and beyond and I want it to go on record. Too often all we ever hear is the bad stuff. This is the good stuff and I'm going to post it on Facebook and every other social media I can find! Very disappointed with their service. I went to them for a break inspection, and was told I need new brake pads since they were burnt all the way to the bottom and rotors were needed to be replaced due to they were worn down beyond repair. They wanted $395 plus tax. So decide to take my truck to the Chevy dealership where they did a break inspection and the dealership told me, that I will be needing break pads soon and my rotors are fine. Typical El Centro service--the 'please don't make eye contact with me and make me do work' attitude by the guys in the shop. The people in the store are a bit more attentive. Their merchandise selection is just ok. I go to O'Reilly's to get high mileage Castrol GTX 20/50, which this place does not carry. I came here for an oil change. It was an hour wait--they had a dinky waiting area. They did carry 20/50 but not for high mileage, which would've been nice. It was a fairly cheap oil change ($39.31). read more

I have been stationed in El Centro for 3 years as an Air Force recruiter and since that time Pep Boys El Centro is my go to place for vehicle maintenance and repair. Not only do I trust this shop with my personal vehicles but I frequently take my government vehicle in for repair as well. I have always been warmly greeted by all the staff and have been in and out on all of my repairs. One car technician stands above the rest, Thomas Gunn has always provided me with outstanding customer care and ensured my vehicle was completely take care of. His can do attitude is truly unmatched! I have always been satisfied with all the work done and have even referred all the other Imperial Valley recruiters to take their cars there for any of there vehicle needs. I got a flat tire and dead battery on the way from San Diego to Phoenix and the tow company (Tucker Autobody and Towing) called over about ten minutes before they were set to close to ask if they could stay a bit late to take a look and get me back on the road to my family. We got there a couple minutes after closing and they took care of everything - staying about an hour and a half after they were set to close. I kept apologizing to Victor (I think?) and he said not to worry about it - that if they could get me home tonight, they would. I guess I technically got home around 2am the following morning, but if it hadn't been for their help, it would have been later the following day. Great service. read more

Okay, so I needed tires. I tried getting them from lots of different places. These guys had them online only. So we ordered them in. Pirelli run flats for a 328Xi BMW. The guy in the warehouse was told to send 4 tires; he sent three. What am I supposed to do with three, you might ask. Well, the manager of the store when he found out that only three arrived, and we had already made an appointment for installation, took it upon himself to drive to San Diego, 120 miles one way, to get the other tire. Didn't charge me an extra dime for this service. The tires are terrific, the service was terrific, and the guys at the service counter there along with the manager deserve a huge "thank you". They put the service back into customer service. I am now a life time customer. Thanks "Pep Boys" for doing such a great job. By the way, this is for the store in El Centro, CA. Hot as hell in the summertime. It isn't hell, but you can see it from there. read more

I have probably been a loyal customer to Pep Boys for about 7-8 years.. I practically get everything done there, from oil changes to buying my tires for all my cars. The reason is I rather go to a prominent known name like Pep Boys and trust their services & work ( I've gone to places where trust is out the window!!) But this branch EL CENTRO PEP BOYS has completely made me question my loyalty and trust to the Pep Boys name..I took my car and my mothers car for a oil change and everything seemed fine. The next day my mother told me her rear view mirror had "fallen off" from the windshield. So we took her car to a Car window repair business so they can glue it back. And the employee let us know that the rear view mirror had to be "pulled off very roughly" because piece of the actual glass had came off with the rear view mirror, and that the windshield will crack because a "chunk" was missing!!! The WORST PART OF THIS IS THAT THE PEP BOYS EMPLOYEE/S DID NOT! LET US KNOW ABOUT THIS AND TRIED TO FIX IT BY GLUING IT BACK WITH A SILICONE GLUE TO HIDE WHAT THEY HAD BROKEN!!! Now the new windshield will cost us $160+ TO PUT A NEW ONE... I would Honestly put NO STARS FOR THIS PLACE BUT YELP ADDS THE STAR. Honestly this place is ridiculous read more

Not happy at all! I got my front shocks replaced on my Mazda Protégé 1999 by PepBoys here in El Centro. Unfortunately, I didn't even manage to leave their parking lot when I heard squeaking noise coming from my right shock. I though since it was brand new that it would go away after a while but it didn't. After couple months of putting up with it I went back to PepBoys to find out what is wrong with the shock and why it is still squeaking. That is the time when the stuff at PepBoys had decided to tell me the biggest BS that I have ever heard in my life. They have told me that the mount inside the shock has broken off and it needs replacement. OK...but wait, I heard that noise the first minute when I got a car. My friends use to make fun of it that it sounds like an old horse carriage. Is that mean that it got broken during the installation??? The car is absolutely the same as the first day of installation...nothing has changed! Still.... they have managed to top even that! They have told me that shock has a warranty for one year but.... the mount inside the shock has shorter warranty and it is now expired. I needed to pay for replacement out of the packet! OK... so I was naïve enough to think that they will replace it for free and then change the manufacturer. Now how stupid is this whole thing? The shocks have warranty on one year but the mount doesn't! The problem is that they are sold together as package.... I am just disgusted with the whole PepBoys BS. Thomas Gunn is the man! We were stranded in the desert.. Trailer tire blew out on new years. After searching for help for hours we called pep boys and found out they had closed. Thomas told us he would wait for us even though they were closed.. We arrived and we were assisted right away. Got back to the trailer and we got out of the cold on our way back home. Worst service I ever had and it happened twice. I didn't learn my lesson the fist time. The first time I was promised my van would only take one hour to finish replacing two head lamps. Out of frustration about 1 1/2 hrs into it I asked what was the hold up. I got a reply it wasn't started yet. I kept calm and ask them to start it now or I'm leaving. They started it and finished it in 30 mins. Really? OK, second time, just happened and I'm so mad that I signed up to yelp for the first time to write a review. First review ever, really. So I make an appointment this time 5 days in advance figuring last time they were busy and I came at a bad time. I will be in and out right? Wrong, I was told 2 and half hrs wait time at the time I was making the appointment. I thought that was a long time to put on new tires, but hey, I don't put on tires for a living, so fine I make the appointment. Appointment time came around and I leave my keys with the clerk. I go get something to eat and I return 1hr 40 mins into it. Guess what? Nothing. No one has touched my car still sitting in the parking lot, no new tires, nothing. I 'm so tired of this place.
