But you will get work, and that's what matters. In fact, I got a gig right at my interview, for the very next day! It was a one-day gig changing lightbulbs, but still. Money. They called me for a couple more opportunities that didn't work out for various reasons, but a month or so later, they got me another one-day gig at an office, which turned into two days. On the second day, my recruiter called and offered me a temp-to-hire position at an office from which I type this very review. So, needless to say, they're very good at what they do. My recruiter, Kara, was very nice and worked round the clock for me without me lifting a finger (none of this email your availability every week business). Maybe I just got lucky, but as far as I'm concerned this is the place to start (and maybe finish!) your Portland job search.

Kristin Hunt was the agent I worked with, so be sure you ask for her. Kristin gave me a realistic outlook on job expectations and helped me avoid postings that were a waste of time. She also told me when I should apply for a position directly myself when the company was not one VanderHouwen worked with. Halfway through my contract job, Kristin immediately began helping me look for full-time roles to transition to while other recruiters in the market told me it was too early and to come back within 4-6 weeks of my contract's end date. Furthermore, she always gave me up to date information on the status of each job I applied to. I was never in the dark. She cares a lot about her customers and it shows through her actions. I wouldn't take the negative reviews here seriously. Work with VanderHouwen if you go and don't get impatient. Portland is tough and you are going to get many no's before you get a yes. Ormand has been my mom's sitter during hospice care on the above dates. He was comforting and soothing for mom during some very difficult times. His calmness and caring spirit instantly communicated with her--it was like a miracle. During her agitated states, Mom required constant and vigilant care. Ormand not only provided that--he also initiated the following: 1. Positioned mom from side-to-side (every two hours to relieve pressure on her bed sores) 2. Set up and maintained an hourly log regarding Mom's condition, meds administered, and times she was turned from side to side. This has been incredibly valuable information for everyone on the care team. 3. Changed her nightgowns and bedding to keep her fresh, and anything else he could think of to help keep her comfortable 4. Most important: Ormand's close scrutiny of mom's condition helped us all become aware of agitation caused by one of her meds--and so we were able to adjust medication orders--and Mom has been so much LESS agitated and peaceful ever since! Ormand is not only very intelligent and medically knowledgeable. He is genuinely caring, and takes serious responsibility for his patients--putting him in an entirely different league than ALL the caregivers my mom has had over the past ten years!! Compared to others I've been to, Ajilon is very organized, and I feel confident that they are among the top temporary agencies. They have financial and office jobs. Everyone there is nice, and Katie is beyond amazing, and always answers my inquiries quickly. She found me my dream job after only a week, even if it was a 6-month temporary position. I had no idea I would like administrative work with the public, but I loved it. I would pay them to do that job. Now I know where I want to end up in life, and I don't think you can beat finding out what you want to do. A month after that job ended, she had two interviews for me, and then placed me in another good temporary position. I'm not sure how to review a temp agency, but I would definitely recommend it.
