The Museum was formerly a hunting lodge and now houses a mock 18th century kitchen, grocers and other fascinating artefacts. Situated in a beautiful town this is certainly worth a visit ad with FREE admission and a home made picnic, your children will have a fab day for the cost of a home-made sandwich - beats any Theme park I know! Ystradfellte is the Brecon Beacon's Waterfall country and its also were I grew up so its a place I…read moreknow well and love very much. Its a place that a lot of people in Wales know of just because of the fall and the caving complexes. The most famous of the waters is Sgwd Y Eira. If you have seen the advertising posters for Brecon Water this is the waterfall in the picture. Its a fairly easy walk apart from the steps as you get near and its one of very few waterfalls that you can actually walk underneath, though do expect to get sprayed a bit. I personally prefer some of the walks around the other falls which are much quieter in the summer and offer refreshing pools to swim in or picnic by. In all my years of living here I have never got bored of walking the area, its different all the time. Just a note to vistors the two main car parks charge a daily fee and a national parks ranger goes between them. If you want to avoid the fee park in the village itself and walk a bit further, tempting as it may be to pull up on the verges near the car parks I have seen so many break in's that you really are risking it a bit.

It isn't actually anywhere near the standard that I think that students should expect from their university library. This library only caters for a few courses - law, english literature and language, the social sciences - so how can it fail to supply enough books for them? It isn't the fault of the librarians at all because every time I go in, unable to find what the computers have told me is on the shelves, they are extremely helful. They go out of their way to try and find things. The fact is that the library just doesn't cater properly for English Literature students - that it's being left behind the sciences in the modernisation of the university.

Lads, if you are ever in a predicament where you have agreed to be dragged around Cardiff shopping by your other half only to realise half way through this punishment that you are missing a big sporting event on TV then don't panic. Make your way to the Hayes where they have a huge jumbo screen. More often than not they usually screen big sporting events on it. Its where I watched the mens Wimbledon final. You can even splash out, get yourself a coffee at the nearby Island cafe and sit yourself down at one of their tables - perfect - until the othr half wonders where you have gone that is.

In the middle of the Hayes, under some ancient trees, is the well-known Hayes Island Snack Bar, with outdoor seating amidst the hustle and bustle of shoppers and office workers. Around the edges of the Hayes area there are lots of shops including Waterstones and Habitat, plus restaurants and cafés such as Jamie's Italian and Starbucks, along with the Tourist Information Centre (housed in the Old Library) and St David's Hall. Just off the square there's the historic Morgan and Royal Arcades, and just around the corner is Cardiff Indoor Market, and in the other direction Mill Lane - known locally as 'Café Quarter' because of its many continental style restaurants with outdoor terrace seating.

In total, Scotsman Andrew Carnegie - industrialist, businessman, entrepreneur and a major philanthropist - funded some 3,000 public libraries in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, the West Indies, and Fiji. Cathays Library is one of them. Apart from its architectural value, the library offers a pretty good range of community library services including free WiFi, a children's area, 15 public PCs (book in advance as they're in high demand) and a 'Rhymetime' kids' session (held every Tuesday morning at 10.30am) including stories, crafts and rhymes for under 5s. You can, however, obviously find a far greater selection of books at Cardiff's main library. Local councillors also hold regular surgeries in the library on Saturday mornings from 11-12, for which you don't need an appointment - you can just turn up and quiz them on local issues.

Especially since you've spent the entire term drinking when you should've been studying, and now you have to five hours before your exam starts and you need to get several books. Sure, you could walk into town, but like I said, time is of the essence. Those extra twenty minutes could be the difference between a fail, and a slightly higher fail! This is why we love Cathays library. Roll out of bed, and roll through the door. Check out your books and be home in ten minutes time. I've seen students there in their pyjamas before. It is just the pinnacle of convenience. Granted, the selection isn't as impressive as the five storey book Mecca that's currently occupying a good couple of acres in the city centre, but that is a place that'd make an Alexandrian librarian whistle through his teeth and say "well, that sure is a lot of books", so I don't think I can take off points for that. After all, it's not really possible for two places to have all the books in the world ever, each.
