My husband and I recently did our honeymoon in Spain and this was our home base in Barcelona. We wanted something reasonably priced in a central location with private bathrooms, and this spot fit the bill.
A couple of warnings: this spot is hard to find. There's one little sign that you can only see if you approach from one direction. It's between the coffee shop and the Irish pub. Next, you'll walk in to the lobby of this place and wonder what you've gotten into. There were no lights on and it was under some serious construction. Go into the elevator anyway. This place is on what they call the third floor (that's actually the 5th or so by American floor numbering).
You'll see the door when you reach the floor and you'll most likely be greeted by Elmer, the guy who runs the place. His English is not very good but he's super nice and willing to help. He'll show you to your room. Ours was small but quite adequate. The bed was pretty comfortable, but the bathroom is tight. The shower is about the size of one in an RV, but that's okay. There's no air conditioning (but two fans), so if you get warm easily, this might not be the place for you.
And it is in a rather convenient location. The Picasso Museum is down the street, as are all the wonderful nooks and crannies of the Gothic Quarter. There's one metro station across the street, and La Rambla and the metro over there is a five to ten minute walk. A good home base, indeed. read more
