Quality of items varies per department. Also an excellent place to get confectionary items and candy for a fraction of full cost. Only one cashier on duty at a time. Does it get any better than a warehouse full of Lindt chocolate?!? Hells no!…read more Get ready for sensory overload! You'll find all the Lindt oldies but goodies here along with some interesting concoctions such as wasabi dark chocolate, chili, and assorted fruity milkshake truffles. All at deeply discounted prices (ie. 100g for 70 cents). I had to gather some self restraint. For most of my visit, I seriously contemplated purchasing an additional suitcase for the trip back to NYC so I could fill it with all the chocolate I wanted from this place.

Compared to the Netherlands, this is a huge store with lots of open space. Half of it is filled with wine for sale. Only one checkout lane was open and it had a long belt so it doesn't feel like you're 4th in line when you are. Friendly place and they take American credit cards. That's a rare one!

Now you know where you can buy groceries without having to lug around a bunch of Euro bills and coins (assuming you don't have a German debit card of some sort). This Rewe location is smaller than others, but it is stocked with pretty much all the basic items needed for meals and household goods. It's open until 10pm every day except Sunday, and very close to several of the Karin's Guesthouses for those of you in temporary housing. Also, there is a parking lot out front, and it's free. English speaking employees are a hit or miss here, but most of the items and checkout processes are pretty self explanatory. Just grab your Google Translator app for the less straight forward products, and you'll be set.

On the town square of a little village, it's mostly patronized by locals. One of the two guys behind the counter knew enough English to get us through the ordering process. They seem to have everything that you could possibly ask for: fresh, local fruit and vegetables, some dry goods such as lentils, chickpeas, rice, couscous etc., marinated olives, dips, turkish bread and last but not least: Baklava. Can't wait to try it out! These all come in decent quality as far as I can tell, while prices are super low. For a net of onions, three apples and two red beets for example I paid 1.90€. Great for students and another plus is that they don't wrap everything in plastic. So bring your own bags and you can skip their plastic bags, too.
