I was passing through and decided to grab a bite. It's been years since I had Penn's Catfish. This location is located inside of a convenience store but they do have a small dining area if you care to eat there. I was politely greeted and my order taken. It was a bit of a wait because the drive through was quite active. They were also a few people inside ahead of me. I ordered the catfish and shrimp with fries and okra on the side. My food was hot and delicious! Shrimp cooked perfectly and fish was also very good. The cake looked good, I'll try it next time. The fish was good. It's catfish which is nice since so many other restaurants claim they are serving catfish but they aren't. I paid $8.00 for four small slivers of catfish and a few fries. When the woman handed the bag out the window it appeared to have very little weight to it. When i opened the container I understood why. The portion is tiny. But they operate in a very high rent area so I guess they have to price that way. Would I stop by Penn's again? Yeah.. the food was great. I'll just be prepared to spend more on a larger portion. read more

My wife and I drove through for a quick meal to take home after some shopping. Nothing about this meal was even close to good. 1) We paid for a drink that we did not receive. (Yes, I should have realized, but I paid, so they should have provided!) 2) One of the orders was for 2 meats (grilled fish and shrimp) with 2 sides and hush puppies. We opened the box when we got home and barely had 4 bites of meat total. Not expensive, but for $13 you expect a little more than that! 3) On top of the lack of main course, the wrong side was given. I intentionally DID NOT order fries because we were driving home, and we wouldn't eat them cold. Well, we got fries anyway!?!? Lesson... check everything before leaving and get a refund because it definitely wasn't worth any money paid! read more

Then you need to immediately turn your car around and get off on the next exit and stop to get you all of that, and then some at Penn's. Penn's has been a catfish staple in Mississippi for years. They started out as catering at fairs, and smaller venues. They have since branched out to several locations across the state, including continuing their catering and full-service sit-down restaurants. They have also branched out into gasoline stations that have drive-through windows. This particular location is just that: drive-through location located inside of gasoline station. The food is made to order so give yourself about five minutes for the order to be prepared. The people there are always so very friendly and accommodating. You also get more than enough food to eat. Typically, even the snack size portions of fish with sides are enough for two people to share. I ordered a cat fish snack with hush puppies as my side. The fish was piping hot, but not too hot that you couldn't eat it and the hush puppies were amazing. They weren't stale or chewy. This is one of my many go to places for a hot fried fish in the state of Mississippi. I've had their food at many catering events and we've ordered large amounts for events. The food there is typically very fresh, the people that work there will ask you exactly how you want things cooked/prepared, they also are very specific on which size that you want and they're very very friendly, the food there is just simply amazing, Lastly, they have fried pickles. Not the pickle sears that people everywhere else try to do, but sliced dill pickles, breaded to perfection and fried perfectly, with a side of ranch dressing. read more

Meh. It was just okay. I got the 3pc fried catfish meal. It was just average and although it didn't look burnt, it tasted burnt. So I don't think they had changed their oil out like they should. They were out of cole slaw at 12:45 lunchtime, so I ordered turnip greens instead and macaroni and cheese. They serve sides in individual bowls. I like that, because I hate turnip green juice overflowing everywhere. I don't like cold food any more than the next person, but the mac and cheese was so hot when they put it in the styrofoam bowl, it melted the bowl. So my mac n cheese tasted like melted cheap plastic. There wasn't nearly enough tartar sauce for the fish, either. Just a tiny cup. I might...*might*...go back for a po-boy with fries or slaw another time, but I doubt it. read more

The only Penn's who serves breakfast and they do it right! The chicken, egg & cheese biscuits are $2.39 and they have a huge chuck of chicken and nice portion of egg on a very nice biscuit. For $4 you can get two pancakes, choice of meat and they are wonderful. They do lunch and dinner too. We love to eat here just before going to the movies down the street. You can get in and have a nice meal for not too much $ and then make it to the movie on time! They are located inside the Sprint Mart on the south side of Main Street but on the east side of the interstate. If you blink you could miss it at that huge intersection. read more
