This Penn Station sub location was next to a gas station. There was plenty of parking but we came after 2pm on a Sunday. The store looked clean and the staff here were all nice. I ordered a 12 inch Pizza sub ($8.99), small fries ($1.89), and a medium soft drink ($1.79) which came out to $13.68 total. It took a long time before my food came out and my two coworkers got their food way before me. I was the last to order but apparently they forgot about my order. They realized I was waiting so they started to make my sub and gave me a free chocolate chunk cookie for making me wait that long. We took our food back to the hotel and the sub was pretty messy at that point. The Pizza sub was pretty greasy and only but so good. I was full after I finished the 12 inch Pizza sub and still managed to finish the small fries. The fries were not bad but wasn't anything special. If you don't mind a greasy and oily sub, then I recommend the Pizza sub. On my second visit, I ordered a Philly Cheesesteak but ended up with an Italian sub. A little mess up on their part but that sub was still good. It was just extremely messy even more than the Pizza sub. Overall, this was a good place to buy a sub so check it out if you're in the area or passing through.

Of all the chain type sub shops available, Penn Station is my favorite. This location is clean, friendly, and they will make your sub to your liking! My favorite is the Italian sub, which I rarely steer from (sorry, I can't help myself). I have regularly used this location for catering parties at work and have always been pleased with the food and service. They usually give extra condiments on the side and if they do make a mistake, they are quick to fix it, even if it requires a special trip. When Tim was managing the local business, he would always throw something free in like a gallon of tea or some chocolate chunk cookies. On one occasion, I placed a phone in order and when I got there to pick it up and check out, the credit card machine was not working as it should. The clerk tried a couple times to no avail and without hesitation, said "this one's on us". I said that's a $60 order, that's not necessary and he promptly said no, we don't want to hold our customers up. WOW, that is great customer service. Note that he did not even have to call a manager, but was able to make that decision himself! Needless to say, I was impressed and will continue to give them my business. You will find many tasty selections of subs, hot or cold on their menu. I also love their fresh-cut fries if I'm eating there, but don't recommend for carry out as they tend to get a little soggy. If you're still hungry try one of their Chocolate Chunk Cookies....I usually save this treat for a late afternoon snack. Review #12/2016

I got the turkey avocado sub on multigrain - the bread is amazing! It's real bread! The rest is fairly average.

The staff was nice but I felt shorted. Had the cheesesteak and there was literally 4 small pieces of meat. Supply chain issues?

And he makes the most amazing pies, cakes, pudding! The staff (mostly family) is welcoming, engaging, and eager to make customers happy. The food is made from scratch, including hand battered onion rings. Tenderloin as well. Mia, our server, had waters on the table. Food came out quickly and she checked on us several times. They have a breakfast and sandwich menu with traditional Midwest favorites. The owner is known for his fabulous biscuits which are served plain, fried with apple butter or biscuits and gravy. We each had Diana's Breakfast Special which came with a whopping bowl of fresh fruit, 2 eggs, toast and choice of sausage or bacon. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the bacon was crisp and delicious. The dining room is sparkling clean with cute decor. They even have a little counter seating. The unisex bathroom is clean as well. There is parking across the street and an accessible ramp to get into the restaurant. On Sundays, they have a fun little competition for the hearty guests. If you can eat seven plates of biscuits and gravy ($15) you win a free meal and your photo on the wall. As of today, there are only 2 photos on the wall. I left without a piece of that gorgeous coconut pie. But I'll be back. This little diner is well worth the drive to Shelbyville. I'm told it gets crowded during peak hours, so get there early. It was delicious, and we've eaten there a few times since and always have a great experience. We both have been wanting to try some of their lunch specials, but we work and can't get there to check it out. We were off today and decided to go there for lunch because they were having chicken and noodles, and that's one of my favorite meals. It did not disappoint at all. My boyfriend and I both enjoyed our meals and even ordered seconds to go, so we could have it for dinner. The chicken and noodles came with mashed potatoes, corn or green beans, and a roll. You could definitely tell the food was homemade too. Delicious! The Farmhouse Diner isn't a very big restaurant and can get pretty busy. It reminds me of a little country diner where all the local farmers and their wives go to eat breakfast and lunch. The staff is always super friendly and attentive too. We will definitely be going back.

(I will still stand by that it's too expensive for what it is.) Staff were not overly welcoming when we walked in, more like you have to tell them you're here to order and then they greet you. The kitchen staff were also dropping things on the ground and the cashiers were having to remind them it now has to be washed, which I did not like that they needed that reminder! My husband and I split the loaded tots, overall these were underwhelming but he liked them. We also shared the large Italian grinder. This is a great sharing size. Flavor was good and satisfied my craving. I did like that the brought our grinders out on two separate plates since we had mentioned we were sharing it! Overall, I probably won't return anytime soon as it was $80 for four people to eat, but hey pregnant lady wants what she wants. ‍
