Just an overall terrible experience. It should be labeled as a college dorm and nothing else. Walls are paper thin and tenants are disrespectful. Pray you don't get a troglodyte living above you because you will be hearing the stomps and scapes of all their movement. It's Like a damn marauders map. Rats are a HUGE problem if you're living on the first floor as for the doors don't touch the ground and the garbage is for sure an afterthought to building maintenance. Let's not even get started on the parking issues. Let alone the constant parading in the parking lots and extremely disrespectful kids yelling at all hours of the night. Washing your clothes you may ask? 3 damn dollars a load, 3. damn. dollars. For 1 load. Had to live here to get through the rest of my transfer degree at UMass and at first it looks enticing because of the nice amenities but its just a front. This place sucks. The only way you can "live" sanely here is by, in fact, not living here. This place is awful. Do not live here. Its expensive for no reason and everything about it is just abysmal. They lure you in with "nice" amenities but this place was the most stressful living environment ever. They'll try and have someone say something under this post to save face but its really just a pathetic attempt to make themselves not look bad. My daughter is studying at Umass Boston and she and her roommate stay in the Peninsula for almost two semesters now, and this building is in the best location of the Umass Boston campus, and the apartment is quite spacious and well equipped and provide a very comfortable living and easy commute to the school buildings. Especially I would like to thank Mr. Cornelio, the assistant manager. He showed the apartments to our kid and her roommate patiently and explained all the things about the surrounding, and he helped us from the beginning from signing lease to arranging for payments; in addition, he offers his great help and support when we need to extend the lease by a week and other issue very friendly and professionally; besides, he handled the procedure in a very efficient way and made things smoothly done. Nasty people in management. Parking is a huge issue, as there's a good chance your car will get towed as your filling out a parking form (Tow truck company has no morals, it seems that it's a good partnership with management and they continuously call trucks to come tow people even if completely unnecessary, for instance someone delivering food, moving in/out of their apartment, etc. Mail gets stolen consistently and management is no help of course. Absolutely outrageous rent prices, much better off at harbor point. No respect between residents, security has little or no presence other then being on their phones at the front desk. You have to pay for laundry if you end up in peninsula 1 but they're all in unit in peninsula 2? Would've been nice to know. Also the $210 indoor parking I'm paying per month to park my car, would've been nice to know I don't even get to park in my own building. The only plus is the maintenance workers are very nice and if you are a college student and like tmake noise and don't want to bothered this is the place for you read more

So bad! So expensive! So dirty, and workers are so rude here! This place aslo has bedbugs! It took them 3 weeks to send exterminator, even after that bed bugs are not gone and they spread everywhere , intersting part is they sent me a bill for bed bug treatment which I didn't recieve any service, I don't know what exatly should I pay for ? A service I didn't receive. Basically they charged me 750 dollar for nothing. there are still bedbugs all over the place. Be careful! My car and also my cousin's car have been hit or scratched a few times and they didn't do enything useful and they wouldn't even show us the CCTV footage. read more

Most students living here don't know how to respect their neighbors, partying and smoking weed all day long and management and security will do nothing but just send them an useless alert letter or knock their door and tell them "have a good night". For example, I have reported my neighbors who always play loud music four times, and manager did nothing but sent them a gentle letter. So my neighbors are still playing loud music now. I lived here for a year and a half. It is 100% NOT a luxury apartment but rather a glorified dorm. Security is rude, intrusive beyond professional boundaries and gets a real kick out of towing cars. They do everything they can to control all aspects of your living situation. Have friends? Forget it, their car is only allowed to park at Peninsula 14 times during the entire duration of the 12 month lease. The receptionist wouldn't recognize a smile if slapped her, or manners for that matter. Bottom line, do not live here unless you want trashy guys asking you to parties while you take out the trash, or don't want drunk girls slamming on their door for their roommates to let them in every Thursday night at 2AM. I'm currently leasing an apartment right now with the Peninsula Apartment complex. As someone who has never experienced living on my own before, I can say this apartment complex is a decent place to live. Decent in the sense that it's a place to live if your other options are exhausted. First of all, this apartment complex caters to the college clientele, as UMass Boston is located directly behind the complex. With that being said, this place is more like a college dorm than an actual apartment building. As someone who's a current student, this doesn't really bother me but I could see how it would be annoying for others who are looking for a quiet place to live. Expect hoards of college students to come by on the weekends looking to party. This is a large contributor to the noise level. In terms of location, this place is not connected to Boston at all. Don't expect to be able to walk down the road a bit to get a cup of coffee or find a place to get a haircut. There's no stores within the general proximities of this area. The closest is a Star Market that's about a mile down the road. If you don't have a car, you can know up front that you can walk to the UMass/JFK subway stop. Which I suppose isn't too bad of a walk until winter comes and it starts to rain or snow. I can't attest to this personally, but I've heard that this area of Dorchester can be subject to criminal activity. I've not seen any of this first hand but I've heard plenty of stories of people in the area being arrested. I wouldn't worry about this too much but I suppose it's worth mentioning if you're concerned about that sort of thing. Now getting into the apartment itself. There are several different floor plans available. The rooms are nice, and they include a refrigerator, stove, and microwave. Some stuff in the room though is cheap and it's evident in its lack of functionality. An example of this being the closet doors, which are apt to break and fall off the hinges. If you're looking for a place in the Boston area, know that this isn't Boston. Given the high rent for this place, I'd suggest living closer to the city and paying more for rent each month. read more

I currently live here and have for the past year and a half. Unless you are going to Umass Boston I would not even consider living here. I have had multiple problems with this complex. Firstly, you should always expect that an elevator will be out of order and there is only 2 in the main building. This results in you having to wait minimum 5 mins to get on during school hours. Secondly, my leasing paper work has gone Missing 3 times and whenever I go down to the office to ask a question they never know what's wrong and what building I live in. Lastly, there are never any guest parking spots because the same 8 people park in them everyday when there is suppose to be a 14 day parking limitation per year. This also includes multiple residents parking in handicapped spots without stickers and with myself having to drive handicapped family I am left with no where to park. On top of all this I was towed for being in my boyfriend spot whom which I live with and had to pay $153 to get my car back. I was then informed that they had switched his spot while he was away due to his car getting slammed into by neighboring cars but meanwhile we have all these other vehicles violations but my car was way more of a problem? This most recent incident has really disappointed me with this complex and for someone that goes to umass Boston and pays for this out of pocket on my own And by any means this is not a cheap place to live I pay around $2,000 a month for a small one bedroom and an extra $95 a month for a parking spot. read more

The management is the worst there possibly could be, they over charge you for the sake of convenience and put random charges on your account without telling you. The package system you pay for does not work nor will it ever. The security is absurd, acting demeaning and rude towards anyone. The apartments themselves are awfully planned and painfully cheap, breaking easily and then costing an absurd amount to fix. This place is awful to live at and I would definitely not recommend it, I'm leaving as soon as my lease is over. Here's a list of all the bad things. 1. Intercom went off at 2 AM and started shrieking. I called and reported the problem and was told that it won't be solved by the night because it's not life threatening. I had to go to the lounge to rest my head, not where I wanted to spend my night. 2. Elevator was almost always down, I had to climb the stairs to my apartment on the 4th floor or wait a long time for the elevator to finally come to me. 3. I bought a locker where my packages would be put into, they were left on the floor where anyone could take them instead. 4. I was locked out of my apartment for 4 hours because the door knob was (and still is) wonky. Had to wait because there's no security till like 7 o clock. 5. There are 8 visitor parking spots between the 2 buildings which are both around 6 floors each. Basically, if you want your friend to stay the night, good luck. 6. Super overpriced. I understand that the location is convenient to students going to UMASS Boston, but they still need to walk in the cold to school. A better idea would be to rent a better, cheaper apartment along the red line then take the shuttle directly to UMASS read more

If you're attending UMass Boston and you're looking for a place to stay, this is your best bet. Especially with the University shutting down a lot of parking due to construction. The Peninsula is a convenient 5-15 minute walk to class. I've been living here for the past two and a half years and I have not really found a reason to move elsewhere. I have thought about it, but the convenience is the thing that keeps me here. The staff here is friendly and will answer any questions or concerns that you have. If you need anything fixed in your apartment, maintenance does a great job of arriving usually within a 1-2 day period, depending on how serious your problem is and how busy they are. Management also gives you timely notice if they need to come into your apartment. Rent is reasonable if you live with roommates. Rent, requesting maintenance and checking your balance could all be done online. The security here needs to be more proactive in handling noisy drunkards; instead I can see them encouraging them, ignoring them all together and just smoking, conveniently right above my apartment window. The gate to the parking lot is remote controlled, but people will lift the gate by hand to sneak in, which causes the gate to break; that is something security needs to be looking out for, especially because there is no CCTV in the parking lot to catch any accidents. Security isn't very good or helpful and is the major downside of living here. But as long as you're around the Peninsula/UMass area, you're generally safe. There's gonna be a lot of drunks, who make a lot of noise but a lot of families around too, so it's not completely like a dorm. Overall, The Peninsula is a convenient and safe place to live. Tips: - Don't forget your keys, ever. Hefty lockout fee. - Pay to have your packages accepted by the leasing office. - Respect that there are families living here as well. read more

You saw my star rating so you know what this whole writing is about. You're probably enrolling into UMASS Boston or got a contract to work for Santander headquarters. If you're the sane kind of resident, ----------------DO NOT MOVE IN HERE---------------- ----------------DO NOT MOVE IN HERE---------------- I have been living in the Peninsula for 5 years. I moved in here in 2011. Before then, I lived in different apartment buildings all over. The Peninsula apartments underwent an owner change from Corcoran Johnson to National Development just a year or two ago. And that is when everything became the worst of the worst. First I'll start with the "security." This property promises security when half of their security cameras aren't working while cars in indoor garages and parking lots are being vandalized or damaged by criminals. Not the management nor the "security guards" will even attempt to help facilitating an investigation or even a plan to reduce it. Not to mention the packages in the mail room that are being stolen almost always. Every package I expect it order it to be held at the carrier's shipment center for pickup always. Sounds convenient? You bet! The potato chips walls are not sound proof helpful at all and with rude, reckless, and irresponsible neighbors who invest so much money on their impressive sound systems you will hear every word of the lyrics to the music they play day and night up until 3 AM sometimes 4 AM. Weekends and weekdays. And every time I call up "security" for a noise complaint, all the neighbors get is a "Keep it down." No fines "which would be a great idea btw if the management wants to rip off more money," No contract penalties, not even a complaint count. One time I called Boston Police for a noise complaint and they were useless as well. So we sleep with earplugs, I'm not joking, yes earplugs in a $2k apartment. We even buy a pack of earplugs every month or so. We're unfortunate enough to live under a floor. The resident on the apartment directly above moved out. So maintenance started working on refurbishing the apartment shortly afterwards. They drill, hammer, scrape, and drop heavy tools and work for about a month or two time on weekdays starting from 7 AM sharp and stop at like noon "smart since you can't make noise complaints from 7 AM to 10 PM." So you can see how a loud neighbor with loud music up to 3 AM and maintenance jackhammering at 7 AM really adds up the frustration to a point where we had to check into a hotel room not too far from the building for a couple of days since we couldn't make up the sleep during day time between work and evening classes. You should see how the party animals run around the hallways screaming. The trash room was built with a wall hatch to dispose trash to the compactor. The hatch door is so small that it can never fit a normal trash bags size of the civilized world and therefore leading people to leaving trash on the floor on the trash room. You should see those rooms on Sundays.. not to mention the filth of the carpets on hallways and the elevators at night during the glorified dorm parties the unaccounted for residents throw. During Corcoran Johnson ownership times. They used to evict residents who accumulated a number of noise complaints. Now they don't even keep a track of who's moving in and who's sublisting. Bottom line, this place is NEVER worth the $2k minimum studio apartment rent. Which goes up about a $100 to $200 a month every annual lease renewal. The management used to give $500 credit incentives to those who refer to their friends to move in here before they gotten rude and careless. 4 of my friends wanted to move in to this property in which I prevented them from doing so. One of them actually lived here 4 years ago and planned to move back, I told her about the change and she was surprised and quickly changed her mind. Two of the other friends are enrolling into UMass Boston and one got a job at Santander. I can never imagined the thanks I could get from them if they had to experience this for just a week. But they're all smart. So be like them! read more

DO NOT RENT HERE! My son just got taken to court due to the wording of the lease. It shows that 4 parties = 1 tenant on the lease! This is VERY important to pay attention to. Should ONE of the parties in the apartment choose not to pay, the other 3 people are responsible for paying the balance owed or you will be evicted. My son was paid in full in March for the remainder of the lease and the other boys were paid up as well...all of their monies helped hold over the amount that the 4th student didn't pay for months on end. An eviction notice comes for ALL parties with a balance due of $3500++!! Each of the boys are summoned to court but not ONE of them received an email or letter in the mail providing the summons. The only reason that we knew of the court date is that one of the boys actually went to the apartment to gather their belongings and the summons was posted on the door! All of these kids would have not showed up to court and been in default had he not stopped by to see that. That's inexcusable. I feel that it's a way to sabotage the kids by not giving them a fair chance to see that letter in a timely manner. They have all email addresses for the parties, there is no reason for this. Apparently, the Peninsula has done this before. The Peninsula lawyer is only looking out for the Peninsula so do not expect any help with changing the court date or any other advice. That lawyer was as cold as they come and told all 3 kids (that actually went to court), they should know who they are rooming with so this doesn't happen! Do any of the kids know each other prior to moving in when going off to college? Not many. The only option if this happens to you is to (1) default which gives these 18 year old kids bad credit and a judgment against them or (2) to pay the full balance owed. We opted for #2 so our kids don't go into collections, we never wanted this which is why we paid our bill on time! The Peninsula will get their money but it won't be from the one that should be paying it. The lease should be changed and each person should be held accountable for their own rent/parking. I would not recommend renting from the Peninsula and I plan to tell as many people as I can about our experience with them. read more

Terrible. The Peninsula is a mismanaged, over-priced, college dorm. In early Sept., I received a letter at my door welcoming back all the students for another year; offering a discount on the next month's rent to the first few people to leave a positive review. When contacting management, if you receive a response, expect as much as you would from talking to a wall. When UMass finishes their dorms, the Peninsula will either be out of business, or will be forced to adjust their rent accordingly to their Dorchester location and tenant environment it truly provides instead of ripping off UMass students who have no other option than commuting through nightmare traffic daily. And management, you already had your chance to accommodate my requests. I've since moved, and it was the best choice I've made in years. read more

Has not set up a reoccurring payment system. Please readjust your branding because this is not a luxury apt. Again, poorly run and the room has bad ventilation. The bathroom sometimes does not have consistent hot water. I lived there for a while, did not have the greatest time. I've been living at the peninsula for about a month now. If you're a UMass Boston student like I am, then this is the place to live.It's right next to the campus and a lot of other college students live here. It is a bit pricey but after all, it is in Boston. The staff is pretty friendly and maintenance will usually respond to your problems within a day. Visitor parking here is less than ideal (there's usually never an open spot). One of the worst things about the peninsula is how expensive it is to do laundry here. But all in all, not a bad place to live. read more

Peninsula apartments are basically glorified dorms for Umass Students who party and run around the hallways most nights of the week. The building's security staff is made up of the rudest, most disrespectful people who get a real kick out of harassing tenants. If you have a problem don't bother going to the management office as they will be condescending and completely unhelpful. It has been almost 6 months since I have lived here and I recently got a letter from a scam debt collection agency saying we owe "their client, peninsula apartments" $1500 even though we already received some of our security deposit back. Peninsula NEVER contacted any of us and is claiming that we can just send them the $1500..pretty suspicious no? Bottom line this place deserves to get sued & I strongly suggest living elsewhere. read more

This place is horrible. Full of students, dirty, and loud. The apartment walls are paper thin. And the parties and the yelling are ridiculous. The apartments look nice, but if you are an adult and have a job, this place is not for you to visit, much less live in. Management is no help either. read more

My son lived there for 2 years...first with 3 other guys in a two bedroom...not so good...they were slobs....but everytime my son had a problem the staff jumped right on the concern and made it good. The next year he got his own studio and it was heaven....kinda high rent but well worth the convenience of going to UMASS with no car. He loved it and the staff again were right on top of things as far as maintenance or security. He never had a problem. He always received his packages without problems. read more
