I've never seen a more complete and methodically assembled tax filing and he discovered errors in one of our previous year's filings which we will be refiling for since we are still owed a refund. This tax year we are looking at a very sizable refund from our taxes and we are a peace knowing it was all done correctly and nothing we could have benefited from got over-looked. We won't be doing our own taxes from now on but will depend on J & S to take care of our tax filing needs.

We much prefer credit unions to big banks since they are not all about profits and shareholders, and offer better banking products.

Despite paying over $3,500 upfront, they failed to render the agreed-upon services. They were unable to import my transaction data properly and eventually told me I would need to manually input thousands of line items myself, which defeats the purpose of paying for automation. In the 45 days I waited for them to figure it out, they filed only one tax return (Washington), which was done incorrectly, causing my business to accrue tax penalties. I eventually had to hire a different company, who was able to complete the exact same work in 12 hours that Avalara couldn't finish in 45 days. I formally requested a refund on December 9, 2025. It has been weeks, and their support team has completely stopped responding to my emails. They have taken my money, wasted my time, caused me legal tax penalties, and are now ghosting me regarding my refund. I strongly advise other business owners to look elsewhere.

I applied for another personal loan to continue a good credit history with the institution, which was approved and also paid off on time, without any late payments. Again, repeated the process, paid off on time each time. Now I've attempted to apply for a small($2500) loan and Self help credit union is denying it because they are requesting paperwork from veterans administration that they do not provide. They are wanting a letter that states that my Service connected disability pay will not decrease. Each office that I reached out to within the VA has said that the request is unheard of, and they've never had to give such information to a VET in order to receive a loan. The entitlement letter which they provide annually has always been sufficient for loans and that has been provided to Self help credit union. For the past 4 years, Self help credit union has received both my work direct deposit and also my Service connected disabilty check, yet they are requesting from me documentation that I receive them both. They have that proof in their own records in addition to the documentation showing my past loans that I have paid off successfully. I thank God that Navy Federal Credit Union has opened in multiple locations here in NC, in the Durham, Raleigh, Richland , Fayettville and Jacksonville areas just to name a few. Active military members and Vets please dont forget that NFCU is here for us unlike the service I have received from Self Help Credit Union. Even after speaking to the Regional manager,which has an attitude just like one of his employees at the Mangum Street branch in durham.
