I discovered J & S on Yelp and I'm so glad I did. Hugh was so easy to work with, friendly and approachable, and highly capable taking our best interests to heart. I've never seen a more complete and methodically assembled tax filing and he discovered errors in one of our previous year's filings which we will be refiling for since we are still owed a refund. This tax year we are looking at a very sizable refund from our taxes and we are a peace knowing it was all done correctly and nothing we could have benefited from got over-looked. We won't be doing our own taxes from now on but will depend on J & S to take care of our tax filing needs.

We much prefer credit unions to big banks since they are not all about profits and shareholders, and offer better banking products.

As an out-of-state seller into many jurisdictions the process was becoming unmanageable when we were tracking and reporting sales tax manually. Avalara's service cleaned everything up an it is a relief not to have to worry about the liability and possible mistakes of manual sales tax. We recently got audited by California and when the auditor saw that we were using Avatax, she said this makes the process so much easier, and in fact the audit was finished quickly.

The onboarding process was handled poorly, they didn't process the fact I had SST so then they charged me for more returns there. Avalara woefully disregarded me as a client, when I went to cancel. They wouldn't give me a refund. STAY AWAY. Update: After they forced me to pay for more returns and I have now cancelled. They won't refund me for the returns they will now no longer be filing. After the merger with Cencap Credit Union, mistakes were made on the bank's end. Instead of taking accountability and working to resolve the issue, the representative I spoke with on the 1-800 number blamed me for their error, spoke to me in a condescending and disrespectful manner, and even threatened my credit over a mistake that was entirely the bank's responsibility. That is completely unacceptable customer service. Rather than treating customers with respect and empathy during a transition that has clearly caused issues, Self-Help Credit Union has chosen to dismiss concerns and make customers feel like they are the problem. Every interaction I had left me feeling frustrated, disrespected, and undervalued. If you're considering opening an account here, I would strongly encourage you to think twice. There are plenty of financial institutions that value their customers and know how to handle problems professionally. Unless you have very low standards for customer service and don't care where you choose to save or invest your money, I would avoid Self-Help Credit Union altogether.
