If you are wondering what that place is with the wooden decking with huge circular shapes missing, it's Pelican. Right on the corner of Fitzroy Street the restaurant itself is very comfortable and relaxing, you will often see people sat outside enjoying a glass of wine and a salad, inside is very cosy lots of space with big wooden tables. I have never actually had a meal at Pelican so I cannot comment on the food, I do however hope it is significantly better than their coffee! I have attempted a coffee date twice, only to be disappointed both times. The coffee we got was cold, had no froth and lots of milk, looked more like a hot cup of dark milk rather than a creamy coffee. The staff were very apologetic when I politely asked for the coffee to be a little warmer, however they brought out the exact same thing again. I think Pelican has great potential to be a lovely St Kilda hot spot, but in a coffee savvy suburb like this one the coffee quality would need to be improved.

Breakfast nice. Coffee not drinkable, burnt? Service poor and cleanliness in restaurant and female bathroom deplorable.

One of my favourite dishes there is the Garden Pea salad with pomegranate, fetta and mint.

It's quaint and pretty and not too loud, which always is a big help when making conversation. I did find the menu a little limiting. There's not a super wide variety of items, but we made our minds up and dug in. Some of the entrees were really big, and some tiny and pricing doesn't always reflect that when ordering. The mains began to take forever to come out, and tables that ordered after us got theirs first, and eventually when anyone cared to offer an explanation, there were two different answers (which always makes me think they forgot a table). In spite of that, the food was good all around. I had the smoked barramundi croquettes, the margherita pizza and the most delicious brownie with an orange mascarpone. It was SO good. I'd come back again for that alone. Overall ... parking was good, staff were friendly, service slow and spotty, very small pours of wine, staff wearing masks under chin (either wear one or don't), clearing plates away while some are still eating, but the food - which is what you come here for - is really good. I wish there were a few more pastas to choose from, but whatever you order, you know it's going to be delicious. I'd definitely come back again.

We come here quite often to take clients out for lunch. The latest dish we had from here was the grilled fish fillet and it was, as usual, delightful to savour. Their house made pasta and wood fired pizza are also of high quality and delicious. We highly recommend for people to visit Ciao Cielo to catch up with important people as the food and ambience is perfect!

Then again, I doubt you would see an awesome Salvadore Dali and David Bowie poster in a one star pokie machine infested pub. However, the Pier is maginificent, and certainly one of my favourites in the area. Along with the really cool posters (and other stuff), they have a good selection of beers, and a great lounge area out the back. Definitely a place I'd try again (which is what I have done, if only to sit out the back staring at the huge poster of David Bowie).

The handful of outdoor street-side tables and couches are a perfect spot for enjoying a cocktail or a jug of pimms after spending the day at the beach. The pink cucumber martinis while a bit girly are delicious as is the strawberry and chili caipirinha. There is also an extensive wine menu. The food is solid, typical Australian gastro pub fare (a mixture of steaks, roasts and Asian fusion salads). Prices are high---not great value for money, but you're paying for the bay side location. I usually get the tasty Vietnamese salad which comes with marinated grilled steak. All in the Pier is one of the better all day drinking/eating beachside establishments in Port Melbourne.

The best way to get to the restaurant is by car and there are tons of street parking. You could take a tram if you don't have a car. Dinner reservation is a must. It is recommended to book a couple days before, and they do not take any walk-in once they are booked fully. I was debating between Eye Fillet (their Fillet Mignon without bacon-wrap) and Scotch Fillet (Rib Eye without T-bone), but decided to go with 220g (8oz) Eye Fillet. My steak was perfectly cooked medium rare as I ordered and the meat was very tnder. I ordered a side of garlic and truffle oil sauce and it went well with my steak. They do bring out horse radish and 3 different mustards free of charge. It was bit surprising Aussies use mustard for steak but it was very good. Every steak comes with thick cut chips (they mean fries) and was sooooo good! I loved them as much as I loved the steak. My husband's salmon was bid too bland but surely generous portioned with two huge jumbo shrimps. Their price is very reasonable for the quality and quantity. I would definitely come back here if I was in Melbourne again.

And happily this cute little place is a meeting of young and old, complete with good grub. You'll find the seasoned old boys manning the fryer and grill, while the young buck lands the customer orders. It's just opened but Old Salt is already a refuge for Port Melbourne locals wanting to avoid the seaside-skyscraper-bachelor-pad crowd of footballers, tandoori coloured plastic WAGs, seagulls and suburban tourists shouting at each other over throbbing dance music at the nearby chippies closer to the water. Old Salt's menu is small just like the venue, but it's honest and traditional, like a nostalgic throw-back to old-skool Port Melbourne. The servings are decent sizes - the minimum order of chips is big enough to keep a bunch of nippers happy after school. And you know what? I reckon these chips are too good to share with seagulls. Did I say cute? Yeah, the refit is kinda special. Love the old bottle crates housing condiments and the builder-chic light fittings. Take a seat under a tree on the pavement or at the counter while waiting for your order in peace. I wonder, should I be telling you this? Or perhaps I should really keep it as my own little secret? OK. Keep it under your hat, I don't want to trip over any chip-crazy birds on my way in.
