The place was nice. The food was ok (a little on the salty side for my taste). My friend and I sat at the bar, I had a beer and my friend ordered a pineapple mojito. Our waiter/bartender was a bit confusing when it was time to take our orders but we pushed thru with confused looks and giggles of our own. We started with two orders of arepas, one was the chicken and avocado and the other was shredded pork, the pork one was tastier. Main courses, the portion was plentiful, more than both my friend and I can finish. My flank steak was cooked to my liking but it was a little tough to cut and chew. Wow! As someone who lived in Latin America and travels there quite a bit- I'm pretty picky about Latin American food. This was AMAZING. This place is 100% worth a visit. We were "regulars" at La Casa de Pedro and truly broken hearted when they closed. Peka is reminiscent of Pedro's with it's own unique vibe. We ordered a lot of food: empanadas, calamari, yuca, and then two main courses steak and paella. Everything was incredible! We missed the "old" extremely spicy hot sauce from Pedro's- the new one served with the empanadas at Peka was more of a salsa and not spicy but still delicious. The Margarita's are very good too. The patio out back has plenty of seating and the restaurant itself is huge. This used to be The Green Briar, and it is hard to imagine it as anything else. But they did a nice job of revising it to make it into a fresh new place. You wouldn't feel like you were at the Briar-especially after having a drink or two and a plate of empanadas. The tapas menu is impressive. Looking forward to trying new dishes and specials. Pedro came to the table to thank us for coming and asked us how the food was. Excellent Venezuelan-fusion tapas style with a really cool ambiance. A little pricey but everything is delicious and there are some budget friendly options. Highly recommend the Cooties Camarones! Also, definitely not a quiet date spot-- expect lots of noise and music. They sing happy birthday half a dozen times during every meal I've had there. The atmosphere is excellent and all the staff went over and beyond their individual roles. I'm so sad!! I used to love this place but recently the food and service have taken a nose dive. When they first opened Pedro (the owner) included a number of items from his former restaurant, Casa De Pedro in Waltham. Now the food is mediocre at best, and on a very slow but inevitable downward trajectory. Also, they pull some super annoying, cheap and plain stupid tricks. For instance, if you order the red snapper dish they advertise that it comes with a coconut rice, they also offer you a choice of mussels or shrimp on top. When I ordered it on Uber Eats I chose only scallop as my wife is severely allergic to shrimp.... Neither of us however are allergic to coconuts or rice. When we got the dish they were extremely and stupidly cheap with the rice (which is the cheapest component of this dish). On the other hand shrimp is arguably the MOST expensive component but despite noting the shrimp allergy they added it unbidden. Crazy. read more

I love the food and the place has a nice vibe. The drinks are amazing too. But I can't say the same about the management. It might be because they are still relatively new. We were a party of 12 people and as soon as we entered, I ensured that I tell the main hostess that we all be going dutch when it comes to paying the bill, so please keep a tab on who is ordering what. Foods and drinks were amazing but when it was time for paying, it was a mess. The waitress had no idea, we had to go individually and help her out. After telling me they are only open Wed-Sun he asked what I wanted and told me to come pick it up in 45 mins! Whaaat!!! Cant ask for better service! Tonight we tried takeout from Peka for the first time. We were big La Casa de Pedro lovers and were so sad when that restaurant closed. All the food we ordered was wonderful! The tequenos, ribs, bacon wrapped shrimp, and carne mechada were perfection. The spicy margarita is also very spicy and delicious! We will definitely have to add Peka to our regular rotation! I ordered take out for over $85 through their web site. They claimed they never got the order despite my having receipts from their third party provider, a copy of the charge on my credit card and a photo of the computer screen confirming the order. They refused to provide the food, contact their third party provider, yelled at me, and said that they way they saw it is either I lose $85 or they do, and they preferred I just challenge it with my credit card company. I kept saying, I am assuming you just need to call your web site provider, you clearly got paid. The owner, Pedro, was extremely rude. He just kept saying it was my problem and he shouldn't have to lose money. read more

My group and I had a very disappointing experience on New Years eve. We have been to this establishment before and loved the food, service and atmosphere which is why we chose to return when we saw they were hosting a NYE event. This event was advertised as a "VIP experience" seated next to the orchestra which was not the case particularly given that it was over crowded (oversold) with tables everywhere. In fact we were seated next to the exit door which was unpleasant and far from the band (even though we were charged as a "VIP" table) The VIP package my group purchased was paid for in ADVANCE at $150 per person. It included an appetizers entree and dessert--No complaints on the food because it was great. Alcoholic drinks aside from the champagne toast had to be purchased separately and we had to start a tab which we had no problem doing. To our dismay when the check came to the table there were miscellaneous charges and fees aside from the gratuity that was being included on top of the amount we had paid well in advance. The event died down after midnight and the orchestra left at that point instead of 2am as advertised which is when we decided to leave. All in all very disappointing experience and we won't be returning to a restaurant we thought so highly of. read more

As someone who works in the food service/ hospitality industry I know that too often unhappy customers take their time out to complain when their expectations are not met. However I feel that not enough people will take that same time when they have a wonderful experience. My wife and I ate at Peka last night on a whim because our first choice of restaurants was on a 45 minute wait. We decided to go into peka from the street because it looked like a very inviting atmosphere. We were correct. Upon entering we were immediately greeted and seated by a very polite hostess and our waiter was at our table in under 5 minutes. The service was excellent and friendly. We shared a plate of nachos from the tapas menu and they were without a doubt the best nachos I've ever eaten. Both of us also ordered several different tacos and never had a bad bite all night. Kudos to the kitchen staff you absolutely blew us away. What made the night for us is when a man who we presumed to be the owner came and greeted us at our table and welcomed us coming in. I immediately told him the food was dynamite. I then watched him go and greet every table. This kind of hospitality isn't shown enough in today's world. 10 stars for the entire Peka staff.
