I have to say I have a love hate with Peet's since I love their coffee (and generally love their staff with a certain select that aren't quite as friendly as the rest; but overall great staff and service). What I hate about this place is their neglect for their wifi and horrible attention from corporate customer service. They no longer use the "coupon codes", but their network is constantly going down: 1) Either the PEETS wifi is no longer reachable 2) it loses internet connection I'm fairly regular and can say it's a rarity that I can experience a full hour of successful wifi and many times you can't get online at all. I've emailed the corporate site and they gave me some boiler plate customer service response that they were looking in to it, thanks for the feedback should you have any other concerns...yada yada yada. I followed up again when there was no change and never heard back. It's pretty obvious that they do not care about providing a competitive value in this area but it feels like they're just being cheap...it's the same router that's been there forever. Just get an updated router for $100 and call it a day for crying out loud. Will I have to resort to the horrible coffee of other places when needing a wifi? There are some pretty good mom and pop places I could go instead ... might have to :( read more

I don't know what it is lately but every time I go to a Peet's, I have a bad experience. The cashiers and baristas are always in a bad mood and rude, and I go to all different ones. Let me start off by saying I was a Peetnik (a peet's employee) for FOUR years of my life. I was a shift lead my last year working there, so look- I GET IT. We all have bad days. And YES, the customers can be SO rude and entitled and to be honest I hated the job because of how rude people were. But this is why I am always SUPER NICE to all Peetniks, and yet I don't get the same respect back. This one today was the icing on the cake. I walk in at 5:30am and there's 4 people in line. I'm waiting in line for about 4 mins, being the last person in line. Right before it's my turn, a lady comes in behind me. She very loudly says "HI (barista's name)" and I think to myself "I bet she's a regular and she wants the barista to see her so she will start making her drink". So after I finally order my drink I go and wait. I can see there are no other drinks except mine. After a couple of mins the barista starts to call out a drink, which SHOULD be mine, but no. It was the lady's behind me. Now again, I get it- making a regular's drink when you see them in line so they don't have to wait long is fine BUT she should have called down the line to see if anyone else (me) wanted a bar drink. She then STARTS to make mine and as she does, the regular crowds over the bar (a pet peeve of mine) and starts talking to the barista, causing her to move slow and not make my drink. I now have to wait an extra 4-5 mins for my drink. You might be thinking "4-5 mins isn't that long" but when you've already been waiting, and when every minute counts in the morning, AND the fact that mine should have been first, it is NOT ok. She should have called down the line before making the regulars. I had to then reach my arm in front of her face to reach for a sleeve and lid because she was crowding the bar (which I said "excuse me" nicely because I'm still going to be nice) and the customer acted as if I was the rude one. Stop crowding the bar and maybe people won't have to reach in front of you. When I was a shift lead at Peet's and if I saw any of my Peetniks making drinks out of order I would tell them immediately to not do that AND I would apologize to the customer and give them a free drink card. I don't know what's going on with Peet's lately but the service has gone down so much, and I'm not the only one to notice. I even worked at this location, back with Katrina was manager. Just because I'm not a regular doesn't mean I should be treated any different. You never know who your customers are, and this case, I'm a former Peet's employee. I hope Peet's as a company changes things. read more

I love tea, I know nothing really about coffee, except for the little cups at Trader Joe's. My favorites are usually the Indian blends. I am not into the Chinese variety too much. Staff is getting better about brewing tea. When you buy some in the tins, you can get a free cuppa. Tins range in price from about $6 on up. If you have to use tea bags, they do offer them, but the selection of both loose and bags is not as wide as the one off Tasajara off of 580 in Pleasanton. Yes, parking can be a bear, but you can always park behind the building, and walk around the front. It is shorter, then again, it is good for you to walk. read more

Peets CV rocks as does their personal service. Often the line is a bit long during morning rush so I either wait or get my latteé later. Consistent and on the rare occasion, it is not, I ask for a remake which is never a problem. I appreciate staff greeting customers, personalizing the experience. 5 stars all around. I love peets! They make the best green tea lattes. However, this location isn't my favorite. Their friendliness is subpar. *I ordered a large drink, they made me a small and when I said something, the woman was so annoyed and said "that's not what they said" ok fine, I took it and left. *Another time, I asked for a green tea latte, the man walked away to make me an iced green tea. *When I ordered an iced GTL, it came out hot. I told them it was supposed to be iced. The woman, again, obviously annoyed yelled to the cashiers "one wrong order screws everything up!!" How awkward! *This time, I'm clearly the next in line and they say "next in line." Or they'll just wave me down. How about "ma'am I can help you down here if you're ready!" Maybe you can crack a smile too? Is it too much to ask to be friendly to the customer? I really don't care if your day isn't going well. That's not my problem. I come to get my drink, and not feel like I'm burdening you to do so. I've always worked in the customer service industry, yes there are some days I don't want to be at work, do my clients know? I went at 8:30 am on a Saturday. I had to park in the Safeway lot and walk over. There were cars blocking the driveway with drivers looking for a space. There was a large group of bicycle riders blocking the sidewalk, all ordering specialty drinks, and keeping the staff too busy. The cashier didn't seem to be able to describe to me what the aroma was like for the two types of bagged beans I wanted to buy. Decaf beans are $19.00 a pound. I am not a coffee freak, so $19.00 is too expensive to buy without knowing what I'd get. The staff didn't seem to be able to handle my simple order. My order was one pound of decaf Sumatra whole beans, one large regular dark roast, one large regular roast, and one small decaf. Within one minute, I was given the small decaf and a large regular, which wasn't marked as dark or normal roast. In about two minutes I was handed the beans. Then I waited several minutes for the other large coffee. I had to ask at the counter for what I thought should be the dark roast regular. They handed me another large coffee, again without a marking telling me if it was a dark roast or not. I was there for twenty-three minutes, not counting waiting to park. I live less than a mile from this shop. At home I opened my decaf and it was luke warm, smelled sour, and was only poured 2/3 way full. I think it was poured from decaf that was made a few hours earlier and then sat around. The other two coffees were switched, so my daughter had to decide which one was the dark roast by smelling them. For one dollar, MacDonald's has a good, hot, small 100% decaf coffee, with free refills. I don't want caffeine in my diet. I do want coffee oils in my diet. Don't buy decaf at Pete's because the "House" decaf is not served properly. Ask them to mark the dark roast, so someone doesn't get disappointed or disgusted. read more

I visited this location today with my sister I am from Southern California my sister is a regular at this store Elizabeth the shift lead was extremely rude she blatantly turned her back to us as we were next in line matter fact the only TWO customers in line waiting to be helped and started to change coffee filters instead of helping us or even Allowing us the courtesy to tell us that someone would be right with us she made eye contact with both of us never smiled never greeted us just blatantly ignored us as if we were aliens are from a different planets.... I would never visit this location again nor would I recommend it to anyone in the area or surrounding areas however Amber made our coffee stop pleasantly ok after such awful TREATMENT I would suggest management allow Elizabeth a lot more customer service training with hopes of even attending some seminars on how to greet your customers on a daily bases. First off, Peets coffee is the best! Secondly, this new Peets coffee shop in Castro Valley is a nice change from the Starbucks. The atmosphere is nice and it's a beautiful little place with counter and table seating, as well as a decent-size outdoor area. The staff are friendly and of course, the coffee is perfect. read more

It's surprisingly cozy seeing how it's just a jump away from the busiest intersection in Castro Valley. Not a single complaint about the service or the staff. I live near here so this location is where I went to try Peets. I wanted to like it but every order I placed tasted horrible. Leaving me with a negative impression of Peets and craving for Starbucks. Until I started working in the city..... I get off of BART at Embarcaderro and Peets calls my name. I always get the skinny versions of my favs (sugar free & nonfat) and I'm never disappointed. I love Peet's coffee but sometimes this store is extremely slow. sometimes the Baristas talk with one person so long the line will extend passed the door. There will be two people making coffee but only one cashier which tends to slow things down. Don't you dare ask for assistance as they will quickly tell you to wait "just a minute" and we will "get to you soon". I like this place a lot more than Starbucks. It has a nice atmosphere to study or read in, unlike starbucks which often fills up with loud highschool students. My favorite drink here is the iced soy Chai (although a tad bland), although the best soy chai nearby is probably at eon's coffee in Hayward. The baristas are also very nice. All in all 4/5. this location is where all the motorcycles meet up before their weekend rides in the near by hills, so it gets crowded when they're around, and no parking, otherwise it's a nice place to hang out for a bit. People inside are super friendly. Major dick is my fav, but any coffee is equally strong and flavorful. I still have my gift card from St*rbucks from two years ago, there needs to be a way to convert the cash over to my Peets cards. Just read an article on ehow (read on) but I prefer drinking mine, thank you very much. "Give yourself a coffee enema. Prepare 1 cup of strong coffee. The coffee should be plain, with no added flavors, and preferably organic. Let the coffee cool, then place the coffee in a rubber ball syringe. Wow, thoroughly disappointed. I used to love this peet's with the inviting friendly staff but times have changed. I asked a couple questions, and did not receive a very friendly response, it was actually quite rude. My question was how many shots the dirty chai included and the response was that it had no shots and it was a chai latte where you would specify the number of shots. How could a dirty chai be a chai with no shots when it's called dirty?? Now when she rang it up, maybe I could understand where she's coming from since she rung up a chai latte, then added a shot hence the confusion. Maybe, they should just add a dirty chai to their POS system to avoid someone saying that a dirty chai latte has no shots because that is completely wrong info! Why else would it be called dirty? Not to mention the sign on the wall that says, "small=1 shot, medium=2 shot, large=3" for hot drinks. Apparently that applies to only lattes, just not dirty chai lattes ! read more

Customer service is still a problem. I was excited about the Peet's Castro Valley when it first opened years ago and quickly became a regular customer there. I stopped going there after enduring weeks of poor customer service. I thought I gave them a second chance recently and started picking up their coffee box every Sunday morning. I'd call ahead and order my box and for pick up in 15 minutes. The experience has been okay for 5 weeks. There's always a line, but the previous 5 times, I was able to walk up to one of their servers, and they would have the box ready to go and had me rung up right away. It was all good until this morning. The barista/cashier/(don't know what his role was - he was busy running around behind the counter) refused to give me the already made box of coffee sitting behind the counter and insisted that I waited in line to have my order rung up. There were at least 10 people in the line. He was very rude and made it sound like I was trying to cut in front of other people waiting to order. I consider myself a courteous and fair person and always practice line waiting etiquette. I consider the box'ed coffee order a special catering call ahead order and should be handled accordingly. The other 5 times, their cashier was smart enough to realize the difference and handled my transaction properly. But this time, I was told to go to the end of the line because, in these exact words, he told me," Dude you need to be fair to these other folks waiting in line". Well these other folks did not have a call ahead coffee box waiting for them to pick up. They were in line to make their orders. Besides, it only takes 10 seconds to ring me up and by ringing me up ahead of these people, there would be no delay to these other people getting their drinks because I was not trying to order a drink ahead of them. Well, at that point I decided to just leave and let them know they could keep their $22 coffee box. I also told them I would not go back any more. That is one coffee box per week for as long as it would take for me to forget this bad experience. It reminded me why I stopped going there in the first place. They will do ok without my estimated annual spending of roughly $1100 (that's 52 boxes of coffee). Indeed, they are doing just fine with poor customer services. They probably didn't care for getting my business anyway. read more

Although it's a pain in the ass to find parking, it's quite alright because I know I'm getting a quality drink when I leave. I'm saddened by the fact that the nearest location from where I live is about an hour away, so I had to get my "Peet's-on" while in the Bay Area. Coffee is coffee, and lattes are overpriced no matter where ya go. When I need to choose Peets vs. Starbucks, I choose Peets hands down (or is it up?) The music is at the right level no blasting loud like the big "S". There is always some where to sit and I always see someone I know, cuz I'm so popular - yeah that's it. I love this Peet's! I live in the area, and am a frequent patron. It feels great to walk in, and have most of the staff already know what I'll be ordering. The staff is so friendly, especially Krystal (I hope I spelled that right). They make their customers feel special, I really appreciate their dedication to customer service. I live a busy life working two jobs; and am always training for some kind of race in my free time...with that being said, my large almond milk iced latte needs to carry me through my busy day; and I can always count on the team at this location to provide a good experience and a perfect beverage. :) I also work above the Original Peet's location in Berkeley, I can't stress enough that their team should be taking notes from the Castro Valley team!
