Driving to Duluth in February wasn't the smartest decision I've ever made, but there was some dog…read moresledding to be done. My grandparents were Finnish, lived in Hibbing and I remember them talking about having a sauna on the farm. When we arrived in Duluth in the morning I thought "Hey, I bet they have public saunas here." We asked the server at our restaurant and she hemmed and hawed and said, "no, not really. Maybe at a gym or YMCA." I told her I found this place on yelp and she said, "uh, no, I wouldn't recommend it." Indicating with her expression and a few words that in her opinion it was sketchy. After having fun dog sledding and freezing our butts, noses, fingers off outside, we decided to drive by and see what the place was like and make a decision from there. We checked it out and it seemed ok and clean enough and we decided to enjoy a traditional, public sauna. What this place is not: a boutique spa where everything is tiled, and white except for the tropical green plants, and the robes and towels are thick and fluffy. What this place is: a traditional sauna that hasn't seen an update since the 60s and the towels match the decor. (side note: we went in February 2018 and it seems from their website they have had some renovations recently.) The towels are small and thin, but clean and get the job done. From their website: "Built in the 1920's at its present location, it was a real necessity for the Swedish & Finnish miners, loggers & railroad men who came into town on weekends. As people settled down in homes with indoor plumbing, public saunas/bath houses began to close down. Duluth Steam Baths itself was slowly deteriorating, while going through various owners until 1969 when purchased by Herb Jensen." For $20 you can rent a room for you, or you and a partner, and get your sauna on and relax for up to two hours. The sauna has a private changing room with a bed for relaxing between sauna sessions (and whatever else you want to do, I guess. ;) ), and a shower and soap in the sauna room so you can rinse off before you leave. Men have the option of going downstairs to the "bull pen" where there are shared steam rooms and showers. It seems there are a lot more pricing/package options for men that want to hang out in the bull pen all day or even all night. We went on a weekday and didn't see much activity and only stayed upstairs and in our private room and sauna. I'm glad we decided to go to the sauna and if I ever find myself in Duluth in the winter again, (actually, it's pretty chilly there in the middle of summer too) I'll try to make time for some relaxin' in the sauna.

Excellent establishment. Very clean and relaxing. Sure, it may seem a bit outdated but I think it…read moreactually adds to the place to give it character. Don't believe the rumors you might hear about this place, I simply haven't seen anything so far that would suggest any of them are true. To date I have only used the private rooms on the main floor. I plan to go back again very soon.

But she decided it was more important to attend a sports event instead due to getting free tickets for it... She also has been very hateful once I booked another stylist at the salon to meet the appointment I had with her! And Sequoia didn't seem to understand why I did that because she couldn't meet the appointment that was booked with her. Sequoia has been very rude and very disrespectful and unprofessional and there for I had no choice but to Fire her as my stylist and I will not put up with her shitty little attitude. I Suggest You Grow Up Sequoia and learn your lesson on how you talk to not only your customers but the salons customers I also hope they take the appropriate action to address the serious issue that has been brought to their attention. I Suggest you not book with Sequoia.

The hairdresser Amber was so nice and such a pleasure to talk with. I have been coloring my hair forever and this place was one of the best experiences I've had in a long time. Everyone was good nature got along well. My daughter in love went with me and also had a wonderful hairdresser. Overall great service and their price was very reasonable. My hair turned out great and so did my daughter in loves. I highly recommend this place!

"Fiery & Fierce at Colour Lounge!"…read more Okay, listen up, because I've just been through the ultimate hair transformation at Colour Lounge, and if you're thinking about going black and red, you need to read this. Imagine taking Wednesday Addams, tossing her in a blender with Jessica Rabbit, and pouring that gorgeous, badass mixture straight onto my head. The result? Absolute fire. My hairdresser didn't just slap some dye on my head and call it a day. Oh no. This was ART. They took one look at me, saw I was ready to embrace my inner rockstar (or villain--depends on the day, honestly), and turned my wild vision into a reality. They nailed the perfect inky black and deep, sizzling red combo that had me questioning whether I was too hot to be seen in public. We're talking layers of red and black woven together so seamlessly that people might think my hair's literally on fire when I walk by. Subtle? No. Glorious? Absolutely. And the whole experience? Let's just say my hairdresser has the patience of a saint and the sass of a drag queen--they knew exactly how to keep me laughing while wielding enough foil to power a small satellite. If you're looking for someone who knows their way around black-and-red hair like a pro and who'll treat you like royalty (while dishing out some A+ life advice), book here immediately. In short: I came in looking for a change, and I left feeling like a walking goddess of fire and darkness.

Welcoming from the minute you walk in. Stylists are knowledgeable and listen to your needs. I've been fortunate (my son and I) to be in the chairs of Bri and Maddy (for many years) and couldn't be happier - always trusting the process. Bri (owner) continuously provides training and works endlessly to ensure the culture is comfortable and quality, efficient services are provided. HIGHLY recommend the Colour Lounge!
