Located on the main street of Wenatchee, Wenatchee Natural Foods offers organic, sustainable items, with lots of locally made products. It's not the largest grocer, but the selection was fantastic. We were able to get some grocery items here during our weekend trip and also tried the items that they prepare at the cafe area towards the back of the store. At the cafe area, they have a large menu of different drinks, with smoothies that are worth checking out. I loved the chocolate smoothie, which they make with almond butter and vanilla whey, so it's naturally sweetened. I also ordered a bowl, which you can make based on the different ingredients they offer, like a base of rice or beans, with different proteins and veggies. I customized my bowl with rice, curry chickpeas, avocado and steak and seasonal veggies and it served as two meals, which was delicious. For those wanting to dine in, they have a seating area on the side of the store, with outdoor seating where it's dog-friendly. It's a win for Wenatchee to have a store like Wenatchee Natural Foods, offering a great selection of healthy, wholesome items in a community-centric setting. For dried items like beans, they often have both non-organic and organic. They also have a wide-variety of other foods (dairy, frozen, snacks, canned goods), as well as bath and body care products. I hope I don't offend anyone, but I always felt the store is too good for such a conservative town (incl. CWU students). It's not exactly the kind of town that's widely into healthy food and living. And for whatever reasons, many of the students seemed to stereotype that the since the store carried a lot of organic products, that it was therefore prohibitively expensive. Couldn't have been further from the truth. Practically all the spices, herbs, teas, grains, etc. are offered at our near the cheapest prices in town. Not only are the bulk goods cheap, but I found the quality to be the best in town. And, many products sold at Better Life were not available elsewhere in town.

Lake Chelan doesn't have much in terms of high-quality vegetarian or plant-based gourmet options, but Bear Foods was a massively delightful surprise! The store is absolutely PACKED with things that I wanted to look at and take home. I was impressed with how many things they stocked that were items I've only seen online and never seen sold in stored. We took a super long time through the coffee and tea isle and ultimately took a few boxes and tins home with us because their selection was so good. Their cheeses and gourmet snacks area was well stocked, and I could see how some of the vacationing non-locals could keep a business like this afloat even with their considerable prices. I really wanted to go back, but we were in the area for a wedding and our timeline just didn't allow it to happen. Otherwise, I probably would have brought home a lot more of their amazing goodies!
