The room and building was clean and well-kept, and the breakfast buffet had more items than this type of hotel normally has. There was also a surprisingly nice coffee maker in the lobby that had specialty coffee settings. And the early afternoon staff who checked me in were very friendly. The hotel backs onto the Lynbrook golf course, and most of the neighbouring buildings are other hotels and a pair of senior's residences (I was travelling with a dog, so I walked around a bit), so it's a quiet area in general. There's no restaurant, but there are a reasonable number of other options in the area along the way on the drive in from the highway.

We were uneasy about the lack of sneeze guards over the hot items and the close proximity of the dining tables. In general, this hotel could use a larger lobby and dining area. There are plenty of rooms to support it and the smaller areas makes it difficult to keep a comfortable distance from other guests.

The shower was piping hot. The breakfast was the best free breakfast we had on our 3 week journey. Real oatmeal. Eggs and sausage were good. It was the first toaster I've seen with a viewable timer. So helpful when you often seem to be waiting and waiting. Staff was helpful. Great stay.

They refunded the difference which was fine. Although it would have been nice to know before hand that there was so many stairs. I discovered a sign on the wall, while waiting for my friend to return, that does indicate the stairs, but it is quite high on the wall and printed in white on dark brown. We had also booked the the Chinese Tour. The staff was very accommodating, taking me in a wheel chair through the whole thing. It was well worth the wait and we both enjoyed it. I wanted to be able to walk around the old downtown, so this hotel's location was perfect. The decor in the lobby is lovely and draws attention to the character that comes with being an older building. The halls were a little dingy in parts, but not dramatically so. The elevator was small but always came quickly. My room was a clean and had a good-sized bathroom and surprising large refrigerator. The floor looked like it had been recently replaced with a laminate-type faux-wood (possibly because I was in one of the dog-friendly rooms?) but it seemed like it hadn't been measured properly, because there were some gaps between the planks. The parking lot is located behind the building next-door, so you enter and exit through a side door. This was slightly confusing when I checked in, but wasn't an issue after that. I didn't try the on-site restaurant, but I did notice that people staying elsewhere (and locals) seemed to be eating there, so maybe I should have given it a go. Overall, a nice solid character hotel in a convenient location!

It was so relaxing and the perfect mini getaway. They are dog friendly and it's located in the downtown area so it's very walkable to shops, restaurants, and more. Highly recommend!
