This is the second year we've sent my son to one of the summer camps at Math Plus. Last year he did…read morea half-day programming camp, and this year he went for a full-day Lego robotics camp. Both experiences were very positive - he came home full of excitement about what he'd done at camp and inspired to continue working on programming at home. (To be honest, he was already pretty excited about building Legos at home, but the robotics part has given him a new focus.) The teachers are clearly experienced at dealing with kids and are actually full-time teachers during the school year, which was a huge plus for me. I was concerned that the people running the camp might just be college kids on break, but this was clearly not the case.

It's okay for him to be excited about math and learning whereas at school he sometimes feels singled out for liking math. The homework is never too challenging and there is plenty of time to complete it before the next week. His class size is only 7 or 8, including him, and he receives plenty of one-on-one attention. As a parent, I appreciate that I don't have to continually sign him up for a new term. Once you sign up for a class, it's an ongoing schedule of classes, that continue through the summer. I'm looking forward to him having interactions with a classroom setting and mathematics classwork during the break. I think having this experience will allow him to stay sharp with his skills. It is pricey, but I believe well worth it. It's a skill that will much more needed throughout his life than knowing how to throw a baseball.

I was just sitting here thinking about the public school system and how things have changed since I…read morewas in high school. We relocated here in 2000 and after two years, moved to Pickerkington because of the school system. I must say that I wasn't disappointed. Pickerington Central High School is exactly the kind of school I would have enjoyed if I was a teenager. It continues the great education process in the city, has an enormous student body and is comprised of all cultures. It teaches diversity and the necessary steps for the next level of education and all other walks of life, all the while hosting an extraordinary faculty of well-trained personnel with strong educational backgrounds and a strong desire to help every child that walks through that door. Their school spirit is incredible. Have you tried getting a seat in the stands when they play against their rival, Pickerington North? I'm also proud to see their athletes and musicians moving on to successful collegiate environments and some on a professional level. But while I praise their band (as a former high school and college band member), I'm disappointed in the requirement that students provide their own instruments. I say this because not every student comes from a family where this is affordable and for those selecting the pricier instruments, this can be difficult to purchase, or even lease. That being said, I'm still pleased to know that their level of musicianship is exceptional. I especially love having the ability to access my children's progress online. The communication lines maintained by their teachers and administration are to be admired. I was particularly impressed with the preparatory methods implemented to ensure that they are ready for all standardized testing. Believe me when I say they leave no child abandoned. And I can go on an on about their extra-curricular activites including parties and field trips. My youngest just graduated from there and although we've seen a higher incident rate of violence, I still think it's where I'd want to send my child(ren). Thus, I'd recommend it for any parent. Go Tigers!

My time here at this school was very negative. I encountered so many teachers who didn't go above…read moreany beyond. They would do the bare minimum and when I would ask for help on understanding or reviewing a lesson, I often received a "sorry, I don't have time." There were countless instances where I wouldn't receive feedback from teachers such as for physical education (VanGundy). Many staff lack professionalism. There was one situation where I worked hard on an extra credit assignment and was told by the Algebra teacher that she would not give me the points because I already had an A in the course. I looked at the syllabus and it made no mention of this. When I pointed this out and asked her to update it, she refused. Things tolerated here were appalling, such as bullying, harassment and racism. After graduating from here, I did not feel prepared for university and had to work extra hard (study excessively, receive tutoring) to catch up and maintain good grades. Thank goodness, I was fortunate to have much more dedicated and hardworking instructors at university. Overall, I would not recommend this school, especially if the student needs extra help and/or individual attention with studies.
