I planned a last-minute solo trip to see a show at Ameris Bank Amphitheater and wanted a hotel that was clean, safe, and maybe a little luxe. My usual pick is a bougie boutique four or five star hotel, but the ones nearby had middling ratings, and this Home2Suites had a really high customer rating at a very reasonable price. So, I broke my own rule. I booked directly with Hilton to get Honors points, and would recommend that to others because comparing with discount sites, the hotel's own website rate was the lowest. The Hilton app lets you check in early 24 hours before your stay and pick a specific room from a floor map, which I loved. My room was ready a few hours before I arrived, and when I showed up at 3 pm (the standard check-in time), I went straight up to my room, since the app doubles as your room key.
I don't usually stay in suite-style hotels, and after this trip I'm rethinking that. I booked the king studio: kitchenette, couch and TV area, bathroom, bed. It was surprisingly spacious and just absolutely, spotlessly clean, one of the things that matters most about any hotel stay for me. The toiletries are a Hilton house brand, sulfate-free with no weird fragrance. It was a record heat weekend and the AC still got the room refrigerator cold, exactly how I like it; I actually had to turn it up a little before I slept! The mattress is firm without being uncomfortable. The TV lets you log into your own streaming apps and signs you out automatically at checkout, so I caught up on a few shows during my down time. The shower got hot fast with great pressure, and I took more showers than one night strictly requires because it was so comfortable!
The kitchenette was the best unexpected delight of this stay. I was able to freeze a water bottle to take to the concert, brought back leftovers from dinner, and reheated them for breakfast. Good thing, because the free/included breakfast was the one miss about my stay here. There were a lot of options, hot and cold (eggs, sausage, breads, made-to-order waffles, yogurt, granola, cereal, fruit, juice), but none of it was very good. The little hotel shop was really nice though, and I enjoyed a pretty cheap bag of chips and cookies from a local bakery when I got back late night from the concert and wanted snacks.
I didn't use the indoor pool or gym, but both looked clean and well kept. The gym has windows onto the lobby and breakfast area, so it's not ideal if you want privacy while you work out. There is an ice machine available on each floor. The amenities here overall are definitely above average. An extra bonus of staying here if seeing a show at Ameris, this is a 5-minute drive from the amphiteater, in a safe area with dedicated parking. I'd happily stay at this location again, or at another Home2 Suites.
