We have stayed many places & we usually stay at Petit Jean but we decided to check out Riverview Cabins & Canoes & it turned out to be the best trip to the Arkansas mountains we have ever had. We rented the small cabin for 2 with the hot tub. It was so adorable! The bed was super comfy & the hot tub was amazballs. It was perfect for 2, very romantic & had everything we needed. The first night it rained & we hung out & made veal meatballs. So yummy! We loved the little gas stove & the giant shower. There was also a cute little fireplace & bear rug! So adorable. The hiking in the woods was cool, the canoeing & river was beautiful & the riding stables were well kept. The whole property was very nice. All the Cabins were picture perfect. There are a couple different canoeing trips you can take & you can hike & ride the trails. There is a little town near by you can go have lunch too, we checked that out, it was very cool with some very cool old buildings & a couple fun lunch spots. It is out in BFE, Walmart, grocery stores & liquor stores are like an hours drive away so bring everything you need b4 you get there. The lady that works the check in was very sweet & very kind to us. The clocks sprang forward (daylight saving time) & we overslept the last day bc our bed was that comfy! I called her & she was very cool about it & gave us an extra hour to check out. That was almost 3 months ago & we are still talking about what a great time we had there :)) We can't wait to go back! Noticed some rowdy dogs nearby and park ranger took care of it in a jiff. Looked like lots of regulars know the good cove swim holes, plenty of places to pull up a boat, kayak, or jet ski. Laundry, store, and restaurant I'm site, marina minutes down the road. Only negatives are some sites with no water hookups, so come with a full tank. No sewage in spaces, just a dump site. Road in is a bit rough--lots of almost switchback turns, several low lying areas that easily flood with rain. One extremely narrow bridge I wouldn't cross with a large camper rig (use alternate road).

I had to rework my understanding of Arkansas when I saw Big Fir. What a dream…read more I found this location with FreeRoam (RIP) when searching for free camping & overnight parking in Arkansas. With a little bit of research & a lot a bit of faith, we were on our way. Mt. Ida has it's own unique charm. It is, after all, the proclaimed "quartz crystal capital of the world." I wish we had more time to meander around the many rock & crystal shops. It felt like a whole different world. We turned off 27 onto state highway 188 & continued on for about 4 miles until the road turned to dirt. Okay, game on. We kept going. & going. & going. For 6 more miles! It seemed like an unusually long dirt road to reach our destination, but when it opened up to the public use area & we caught a glimpse of Lake Ouachita, all of my worries melted away. It was all absolutely stunning: the serene, smooth lake, the sun setting over the trees, the soft breeze. Sweet, sweet America. There were other folks RV & van camping, but there was enough space to spread out & get our own little piece of waterfront privacy. We backed the van right up to the beach. Later that night, I took a long walk down the beach & it was so quiet that I thought I had a serious tinnitus problem. I could hear the ringing in my ears, my heart beating, & my blood pumping. The lake was silent. Even in the dead of the winter, the facilities were unlocked & available. There were public toilets available, but no showers. It was relatively clean for a public campground. Bring your own toilet paper. & of course, as always: L.N.T. Leave No Trace.

The pine cone definitely makes a great romantic getaway as it is just the right size for two. To add to the experience there is an outdoor shower and chiminea on the porch as well. The cabin was a wonderful end to our vacation, next time we will have to stay for longer so we can check out the fishing hole and hiking trails. Gabe and Dawn (owners) are very friendly and were able to accommodate our late arrival. They also offer two large cabins for larger groups.

The interior has a small kitchen with oven and fridge, bed, tiny bathroom, booth, all crammed into a wood and pink lenolium interior. The owners have outfitted it with 1950;s themed movies and cooking tools. My boyfriend who is 6'4'' had some trouble fitting in the bathroom, but besides that we had an amazing stay here and even cooked a full thanksgiving dinner for 2!
