We felt so uncomfortable I just wanted to leave after the only interaction we had was by a woman peeved that we had to scoot by her to get to a seat and that she didn't want us sitting there. I was hoping to share some Christmas spirit with others since we have no family out here but it just made me more homesick. No one welcomed us or told us about the service and so trying to do communion was awkward because we didn't know the routine and we we got smirks when we didn't know you put the bread in the juice. Churches like these will cease to exist with their insular, exclusive attitude and that is a good thing.

He is a man of courage and commitment. He and his staff welcome all and literally are engaged in life-saving work. Thank God for Keith Ray and the staff at Clemson UMC. Open hearts, open minds, open doors really is lived at this church, but not many others!

This was nice and stood in stark contrast to my previous visit. The service today was held in the smaller, more beautiful sanctuary with stained glass windows from 1948. Pastor Heavner gave a great sermon about the message of Christ, and how it was meant to be revolutionary--even dangerous to --- the powers that be. The pastor (Rev. Heavner) asked, "Have Jesus' teachings become too polite today today for most of us?" I love the component of the Children's' Church, and families will feel welcome. In this ultra-conservative college town, University Lutheran continues to do a very good job reaching out to others by providing spiritual guidance for Lutherans and members of the Clemson community. May it continue.

The Spirit calls us to make known, by word and deed, the story of God love in Jesus. Our worship together empowers us to grow as disciples as we receive, celebrate, and share God gifts with all of God creation and created ones.
