Wall heater repair.

I called Payless Heating & Cooling and spoke to John. He was able to come by today 1/20/25 to look at my wall heater. Able to come sooner than expected which was great. After John assessed the heater, he let me know that it was just the thermostat that needed to be replaced. He also did tell me originally when I spoke to him on the phone that it would be a $49 charge and if he needed to do work, they would waive that piece. In this case, he did recommend that I could just go to Home Depot to get a thermostat that didn't need to be really expensive. John was very honest and letting me know that and at this time I did not need to replace the wall heater. I did let him know. I appreciated his honesty as well as his kindness. I would definitely reach back out for any services that I would need with my heater in future. John, thank you for your excellent customer service.

Updated to three stars because rep replied here on Yelp. I Recommend they focus on checking their voicemails more often.

The technician Tyler spent 1.5 hours, going up to the roof of our four floor apartment trying to find out what was wrong, and back - 3-4 times. After meticulous work, Tyler found out that it was a loose connection in the thermostat. The fee was $20 for diagnostics + level-1 labor charge of $300. I will hire JJ again for their excellent tech work and for their interactions where they are patient enough to explain / answer my questions. The fees may look high but is lower than the median price. It is important to hire qualified technicians to do such repairs even if their prices are high.

We suffer through the weekend then I call JJ because the next Livermore heat is coming. I wanted a local place because I thought proximity would help. It did. I called at 1:30 and they had a technician assigned to arrive between 2-4. They send a text message with a picture of the technician and a link where you can track his progress in an Uber like map. Very cool. Tyler arrived and he started systematically diagnosing our system. During the diagnosis he clearly explained what was going on and how he was going to systematically look at failures. He was also very tolerant of our inquisitive cat. Long story short - our AC is back up. He walked me through the repair costs and cautioned us about the age of our AC and furnace system - not in a salesy way but very consultative. We are very happy with the entire JJ experience and would, of course, recommend them again.

During the estimate phase, Constantine was a breath of fresh air. Instead of pushing generic upsells, he actually "downsold" us by engineering exactly what we needed to work seamlessly with our home's downflow ducting. He was honest, straightforward, and clearly explained the system without any high-pressure sales tactics. For the installation, Mike and Diego were our crew. They arrived a little past the initial 9am window on the first day, but they worked incredibly hard and got the entire complex job done right on schedule. At the start of Day 1, I handed them a simple "homeowner's QA" list of things I wanted to check with them at the end. They were super nice, listened, and gladly accommodated every single request. The workmanship is top-notch. They perfectly sealed the exterior wall where the lineset exits, helped me get the Kumo Cloud Wi-Fi connected to my phone, and hauled away all the old debris, leaving the site spotless. As a testament to their technical skill, when I asked about the refrigerant line vacuum test, they had pulled it down to 350 microns--which is a great number and proves they don't cut corners! Pics attached of the final setup. If you want an HVAC company that is honest in the office and expert in the field, we highly recommend the Galaxy team!

Spot Free HVAC Air Services - Carrier Performance Series 37MURA Heat Pump

Spot Free HVAC Air Services

Interviewed 5 companies for our project, super glad we went with Spot Free. We have a single story,…read moreabout 2600sqft home, with floor vents for forced heating. The gas furnace was about 25 years old and rated for a 1000 sqft home and the ductwork under the house was ripped and torn. Our house wasn't heating, our gas bill was $400 a month alone. Instead of trying to fix the current system, we wanted to upgrade to AC/heat and modernize with ceiling vents. We landed on a hybrid system: 4 ton variable heat pump outside, a backup gas furnace in the attic, whole house filter, 2 zones for the house because of our layout with two gen 4 nest thermostats, r8 ductwork, 15 ceiling vents, 2 air intakes, and all the permits. Their quote included a 3 year warranty on labor, whereas the other 4 companies were only 1 year. Nice bonus perk. The project took 5 full days to complete, and they are coming back Monday for a partial day for final touch ups. Anson came by same day and walked through the property with me, getting the full picture of what we would need. He literally drew everything out, saying it's very important that I understand what is going on because it is permanent. Anson cleared up a ton of questions I had. We talked over vent location, system size, zoning, equipment, everything. He took his time and was very patient. The quote he gave was very competitive to the other 4 I received. I decided on Spot Free because of Anson's care in explanations, his patience and detail, their quality of yelp reviews, the labor warranty and finally their price. I kept the contract though because of Jamie lol she is such a sweetheart. One of the other companies, bigger named and 2k+ reviews offered to price match, but I loved Jamie so much, as well as Anson was so quick to answer my questions over text, and the labor warranty was better. Decided to stay with them even with the price match, although that was very generous of the other company to do. The install itself went super smoothly. Brandon was the lead communicator with us on the project. He, and the whole team, did an amazing job! I felt like he kept us in the loop about everything important, in a non-invasive way, we got the vents mostly where we wanted them (beams/structure dependent), and we could still live in the house mostly uninterrupted with what I felt was still a ton of privacy given the scope and nature of the work. Honestly didn't even notice they were here for the most part, my husband and dad napped through most of the noise lol! The amount of care the team had for our belongings was also very impressive, and noted. They covered everything with plastic sheets, including stuff in our garage like our stroller. That attention to detail was super kind! They also fully cleaned up after themselves every day! Vacuumed, swept, taped up the work in progress vents, removed sheeting, etc. They were also all super careful to keep doors closed, we have 2 cats and I never worried they would be let out. It was a pleasure having the team here! The vents look super clean! Very well done. The thermostats work great, Brandon helped get them set up on our phones in the google home app and patiently, after what I know to be a long day, taught us the various settings so we could get started and ensured all parts of the system were working, much appreciated! We have heat! This is excellent! And the system is so so so quiet! It's just night one after install, but the whole house is an even temperature. Looking forward to playing with the app and sensors to fine tune our comfort here, but it's so easy and it just works so far! I'm super excited for summer, to test the AC out. I'm also looking forward to our next PGE bill, to see if maybe we are saving money lol! Spot Free HVAC is 10/10, wonderful company and people!

Very easy to communicate with and book a quote. I received 3 quotes for our HVAC work:…read more- Spot Free: $21K - Vendor we used: $23K - Another vendor who we used before and were happy with but increased their pricing recently: $32K We decided not to go with Spot Free for 2 reasons. First, the heat pump brand was changed in the quote to one that we did not want (Carrier). We were replacing it due to leakage of carbon monoxide. This is obviously a safety concern for us, but also a peace of mind issue. We had discussed using Carrier at the site visit, but I was adamant to avoid it. Second, Brook mentioned that there was a manufacturer's recall on our existing 1-year old Mitsubishi heat pump (we have 2 zones with 2 separate units) and that we should pay him out of pocket to fix it. I was confused, because we received no information regarding a recall and typical costs associated with a recall are not paid by the customer. Furthermore, we hadn't experienced any issues and we're still within the warranty period from the manufacturer and installer. Brook said he had been processing a lot of recalls on units he installed and Mitsubishi was slow to send parts so it's easier to pay him directly for the repair. I contacted the original installer, who we had a very positive experience with initially, and they said there was no recall. I also looked online and couldn't find any information regarding a recall.
