A good burger can be found here. It definitely hit the spot after spending a day kayaking on Lake Taupo. Please note that they don't have a bathroom on premises if I recall correctly because they are strictly a take-out place. They do have some picnics outside that you can sit at to enjoy your food. We also ended up order the honey butter southern fried chicken along with a double cheese burger. Go gluttony! It was very crispy and crunchy on the outside with moist tender chicken inside. Finger licking good! The food did come flying out but they do make things fresh to order. We really liked this place to refuel and reenergize after a day out ton the water. Would recommend for anyone in the area.

Good choice for Burgers in Taupo. They have a great selection beef burgers, but the chicken burger should not be overlooked. Really good fries and a friendly staff as well

Yeah. Went back. Got another fish sandwich and the Southern Fried Chicken sandwich along with the fried Mac n Cheese. All were great although you can skip the Mac n Cheese. Chicken was great with just a hint of honey!

This place was so good I didn't get a chance to take a picture of the food before we devoured it. Pauly's Pack gives you a portion of the delicious fried chicken with fries and coleslaw. We also tried the fried mac and cheese, chicken sandwich and pork sandwich. All was delicious!

Menu - brief edition.

Pauly's Diner is really a takeaway restaurant. As such they have none of the usual restaurant amenities such as WiFi or even a toilet. However, the do have some limited seating, mostly outdoors for those people who can't wait to jump onto one of their luscious hamburgers. If you want fancy, this is not the place for you, but if you want a hot, delicious, freshly ground burger on a toasted bun, this is your place.

The food looked really good and I was excited to try it out, unfortunately they don't take credit so I was unable to eat there.

Wanting a view of the lake, we stopped into BurgerFuel. They had music playing from inside, outdoor tables and row seating facing the lake. I ordered from the Breakie menu and grabbed the eggs Benedict with salmon (pictured). My friend had ordered nachos with bbq pulled pork and it looked amazing (not pictured). Along with a pint of Lakeman Pale Ale to wash everything down for the afternoon. Great meal, nice location... stop in when your on the north island and by New Zealand's largest lake.

But when we're traveling, we're trying focus less on fancy meals and more on the sightseeing. Strolling along Lake Taupo, however, Burger Fuel drew me in for some reason. Perhaps it was the bustle in the place, perhaps the tantalizing aromas emanating from the kitchen, that made my mouth water. This, combined with the promise of fresh, organic ingredients, as well as an interesting flavor palate, caused us to stand in line at this popular New Zealand burger chain. We were not disappointed. It's a pretty small place, wedged in between other, larger restaurants, with a limited number of tables, inside and outside overlooking the lake and a lovely sunset. It was a first for us to have beetroot on a burger -Kiwi Burger-, but the flavor complements the burger meat amazingly. My burger also came with bacon and mango! What a burst of flavor!! Yeah!! It's time to bring Burger Fuel to Los Angeles, people!

Rounding the bend we approached this quaint little, dark wooded cottage with string lights on the patio. While there were few cars in the lot, we ventured in because the take out menu sounded awesome. It was definitely quiet inside with a few patrons at the bar, leaving us the dining room to ourselves. Well, us and our very talkative server. The Hubster had the steak special, which he claimed to be very good, especially for the price. Me, I went with the Ploughmans burger because very few places in the states use beets as a burger topping. I had to see what all the fuss was about. It did not disappoint. The burger was perfectly cooked and the beets added a great flavor. All in all, if I were back in Taupo, I'd go again and again. PS kudos for being close enough to our hotel so I could utilize the wifi to check in on yelp. I'm loving the New Zealand badge!

The large terrace wasn't very busy, but there were only 2 or 3 servers, for both inside and outside, so it took an awfully long time for someone to come and take our order. My husband ordered the lamb rump and I went with the roasted lamb salad. My lamb was roasted to perfection, and combined with the feta cheese and a delicious dressing, this salad was absolutely scrumptious. The lamb rump was also cooked to perfection, but it was kind of drowning in sauce. Just too much of it. Water is served free here in New Zealand, but just don't ask for ice in it. Most places don't have it. Also, count on getting just one napkin and make do with it. The wait staff was friendly, but kind of timid and not very attentive to the customers. At the end of our meal, we had to wait again a considerable time for the bill to come. Even trying to get the attention of the wait staff turned out to be a chore. It would have been nice for someone to come by our table to ask how our meal was and if we needed anything else. In short, nice view, tasty food, but mediocre service. I couldn't really give more than 3 stars for that.
