The world's second-oldest American Legion is located in Mexico City and is open to the public…read more Visit our restaurant in Condesa and support our bi-weekly events like Whiskey Tastings and trivia nights. Your business supports American Veterans and the organizations, such as an orphanage and school for blind girls, that our post supports. Pro tip- order the USDA prime beef fillet tacos with Parisian sauce, it's off menu. The American Legion Post #2 in Mexico, established in 1920, has been located since the early 1960s in an ornate early 20th-century building at 25 Celaya, Condesa. After World War I, over 70,000 combat veterans moved to Mexico City to start a new life and escape the pains of war. Seventeen of these veterans decided to form the American Legion in Mexico City, as shown in the enclosed photo. Eventually, they settled on a building which used to be a brothel. Visit the second floor and terrace to see the rooms frequented by the Johns. It is not clear what connection these veterans had to the brothel, which was nicknamed "Lover's Roost."

We had the steak tacos prior to a tequila tasting at the top level. We also tried their smoky margaritas, which were delightfully refreshing.

I have to give full Kudos to another reviewer on this restaurant. I that review 2 key topics sold…read moreme: a solo travelers comfort, and the mushroom soup. I don't know why but I guess that hit a savory craving. Immediately I was greeted as a table of one and sat in a room Surrounded by game 4 of the World Series. I didn't read this place to be a sports bar; I had read this place to be a quaint Mexican cuisine on a little street... I walked around and this place has a few faces to it. It definitely has its own charm and Karisma (smh). The waiters spoke decent English and I tried my decent Spanish... just to end back in my comfortable English. Everyone was kind and jovial, hell I got a complimentary beer from the staff at the end. Very cool people. The food was exactly what I needed: good Taco Machos, homemade chips salsa and pico, and a warm and savory sopa de championes. This is a fantastic lunch spot for sure and a perfect little meeting spot for friends. The prices just sell this point too.

Popular, expat friendly restaurant in the area of the three major brand hotels in Polanco…read more Menus is Spanish and English. Indoor or street (smoking) dining areas. Attentive service. Good guacamole, salsa and chips. Tacos were good and portions for an "appetizer" were decent (five). Flavor was decent but could have used some more pineapple. Salsa helped. Margarita was on the weak side. Beer saved it.
