I had an appointment with Zoey Bell today and Oooh my goodness. I was SO impressed with her level of knowledge, her passion, and excitement to be doing hair. She had great suggestions, listened intently to my desire, and my hair came out insanely cute and flattering. Seriously one of the best hair cuts I've ever had from ANYONE. We made a plan for my goal hair and I can't wait to go back. The school itself gives off a very inviting atmosphere and it's obvious they are teaching their students really well, because Zoey talked about and treated my hair like no professional has ever done. Students run the school. An instructor told student how to do my hair. I went to cosmetology school and the instructor told her exactly what I wanted and she did what she wanted. I asked for her instructor to check after cut and was told she was at lunch. I left mad and students knew I was mad. I came back the next day to see the instructor and get the check I should have received the prior day. Because I said that it was BS it wasnt already done. The students at desk refused me to even see a manager or get an appt to fix their mess of my hair. I have always supported schools since I was a student myself. This experience will keep me from returning to any school! read more

This place acts Hella unprofessional and ghetto. I had my friend book an appointment to do a spa pedicure. For some reason they don't have the nail students available to book online, so she had to do it for me, which I find that stupid. Halfway through the spa pedicure the tub for the feet breaks, and no longer runs hot water and the jets turn off and on. I have to give my friend credit as she remained very professional and kept the appointment going. At the end I love how my feet feel, and she did an amazing job. Another issue and another reason for a 1 star is that my roommate booked for a similar appointment later in the day. Once we arrived we were informed that they OVERBOOKED, and would need to reschedule the appointment. The reschedule would be charged less (it should've been free for wasting our time like that). The receptionist that caused the overlooking should be fired. Unless you have a friend or family member that is a student there, DONT GO. read more

Will NOT be going back or recommend. What was supposed to be a highlight on a short hair (see pictures) ended up being a 5 & 1/2 hour ordeal. The color is horrible! The color is all over does not look like a highlight. Why use the foil??? There were ONLY 2 learning leaders on staff for over 60 people through the door Saturday, they were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Foil was being removed and hair wiped to discontinue processing while there was still foil going in my hair. Took OVER 3 hours to put the foil in my hair. The young lady working on my hair was young! I do not fault her but the lack of supervision and amount of people that came and went for services. I would have thought that by sitting in ONE spot for 3 hours as both learning leaders walked by me and smiled they would have thought something was wrong.....NOPE!!!! I even addressed one to engage but that did not even seem to help. I showed several pictures of the color I wanted and now need to deal with YELLOW/ORANGEISH hair!!! Was looked down when I asked for toner since my hair was WHITE, If I wanted white hair I would have left my gray continue to grow. You can see from the pictures that my hair turned out NOTHING like one of MANY pictures I showed on MULTIPLE occasions to the student and both learning leaders I would have gotten better color out of a store bought box and highlighted my hair myself. Was told one price and charged another. Could not use the Groupon (that will go unused $19.50) that I had even when I told the girl on the phone when I made the apt. With tip, gas and cost of service, Groupon I am $100 in, for another $20 I could have gone to a salon. I would expect to get a refund but I seriously doubt this will happen. I am now going to have to spend a min of $120 to get this fixed with low lights and another highlight to get rid of the brassy color and yellow color to yet again fry my hair. Didn't even get a blow dry walked out with a wet head. Super unhappy. If I could give a negative star I would review Unless you know someone and trust them DO NOT go!!! I get these are students who are learning. BUT there should have been MORE "Learning Leaders" on the floor for a Saturday with the amount of people and students. Since I've had success at salon schools in the past and is still in need of finding a permanent stylist, I decided to give this school a try. Honestly I saw it on Groupon and decided for as cheap it was it be worth a shot to touch up my highlights. Unfortunately, I did spend about 3 hours there and left with my hair looking not much different then it did before I went in. She did do the highlighting with foils, let it sit, etc. And she was super friendly and great. In fact at first it looked good, but after I got home and showered the next day, all of my roots were still visibly showing. Like not just a little bit, that sometimes happens with highlighting, like a good 1/2"+ of roots. It didn't appear that I had just had a highlight. So now that I had just had my color done, I couldn't fry or ruin my hair by getting it done again so soon. So I waited weeks and I'm now going back to see my professional stylist 2 hours away just to fix it. In her opinion, it doesn't appear that I just had a highlight 6 weeks ago. And she had to fix the tone because they didn't let the bleach for the blonde sit long enough. With that being said, if you go here for color or cut just keep in mind that these are students. It's cheap because there's always a risk. You may get a great color, or it might not turn out. According to Yelp, it doesn't look like there are too many positives. But I will note that the men I saw in there getting their cuts, those looked good! read more

I came here as I was traveling through Indiana for work hoping for a perm. The students were kind and encouraging but when it came to the service itself my hair is fried beyond repair. The student was reading the box and had told me how she had never done a perm like mine before. After spending four hours at the school I had to wash my hair as soon as I got home to try and see what could be saved of my damaged hair. My blonde hair that went well below my should is now a brown bob due to trying to hide the damage done. After calling to request a refund for my perm I was told there was nothing that could be done. Where do I even begin... I came here because I was going to box dye my hair & figured - students would probably be better than box dye, right? WRONG. Well I'm sure some people have good experiences here but i did NOT. I went in for an all over color. I was anxious to begin with, as I have only colored my hair TWICE in my entire life. Apprehensive, I ask before I even sit in the chair, "I box dyed my hair back in December, that won't be a problem will it? Theres nothing special I have to do, right?" The woman doing my hair assured me, "it's been way long enough that you don't even have to worry about that". So then I let her dye my hair. The dying process itself took about 2 hours so I figured she had gotten great coverage, however when I left, I noticed my roots were BRIGHT red and the bottom was still brown with a tiny tiny hint of red. Long story short, the color was NOT what I wanted and the coverage is not good at all. So I schedule a consult because this place advertises that if you're not satisfied, they will have a teacher redo your hair. Well, consult day comes and the woman I spoke to was extremely rude, starting out the conversation by saying, "are you aware that your hair is extremely fried and you'll need to take a couple inches off, just saying." I was insulted but just thought maybe she didn't mean to come across that way. Then when I told her the situation, she blamed the uneven color on my box dying job done over half a year ago. I give her the benefit of the doubt and say, "okay so what do I need to do to correct it?" Her suggestion? she said that they would only correct it if I paid $20 more to get a 5 inch trim and a deep condition (the current sale they're running in August). The funny thing is that the woman and teacher that were dying my hair the day before told me that my hair was very healthy! Long story short, they wouldn't correct my hair unless I spent $20 more on services I don't even need, without the guarantee that recoloring my hair would even work. I wouldn't even bother with this place, save your $60 because you'll have better luck with an $8 box dye. read more

I love this place! The students rotate (since it's a school), but you can request people or try someone new each time. They are supervised (if you're nervous) and I always end up with a color I love. Now I have it down to one I love, so they keep it on file for me. Appointments are only 9/9:15/9:30 AM or around 1:00 PM. They have morning and afternoon sessions. It's expensive being cheap! I came here to get a balayage and the first thing I said was if you can not do this DO NOT ATTEMPT IT. The student said her teacher would be helping her do it and that it could definitely be done I would just have to go back a few times to get it as light as I wanted. I also had my hair down to my waist which took me years to grow and I told her not to cut my hair except the ends. She cut about two inches which was fine. She then started dying my hair and it took her about 2 hours to get all the way around my head. So when she washed it out of course one side was wayyyy lighter than the other side. My hair is a dark brown at the top and the ends are like orange! At this point I'm annoyed and ready to go but wait she's not done yet. She continues to cut my hair until I asked her to stop! My hair is now up to my shoulders. I understand that this is a school but I have been to other schools and never spent as much time as I did here. I had an appointment at 4 and didn't leave the salon until 9pm. It was the absolute worst experience. I would go here for something simple not for any dye jobs. I scheduled for same day for an all over hair color and told to arrive 5:15 pm. Then got text message at 3pm to text "I am here" when I got there so they can tell me when to come into the salon. I was 5 mins early when I texted and waited until 6pm with no response. I texted "Hello" and got nothing. I just started my car and went home. I suspected that it was a racist thing because I gave them my Asian surname on the phone. I didn't dare go in to check for fear they would do something to my hair "by accident" if I insisted on staying. I knew I should not have come. I used to live in Greenwood and remembered the racist feel of the city. I should have just made my appointment up north with Aveda school where I live instead. I wasted a 30 mile drive today. Expensive being cheap. In my experience, there are ways to be frugal. In this case, you spend a lot of time and it isn't that much cheaper going to an experienced stylist. I spent four hours in a styling chair, an hour while the student discussed the color with a teacher. I'd asked for my hair to be darkened for the fall. I had some roots from summer, but I highlight, lowlight & trim regularly- every 6-8 weeks. My hair is healthy. I was clear in that I wasn't interested in autumn red tones because they don't work with my natural coloring. My chair was facing into the sun so I spent the time with my eyes closed as the stylist & I discussed my daughter's birthday party & the photographer there (hence my desire to not have roots or an odd hair color). My hair came out metallic orange- no brown & my roots still showed! The stylist said, "That's not what I expected." When I mentioned it to the teacher he blew me off & said we'd "Go darker next time." I called immediately & they said because of their breast cancer event they couldn't fix it before my daughter's birthday party so I had to get the orange covered by a (reputable) salon stylist. I was in tears & was lucky enough to find another salon (it cost another $100 to fix my hair). I wanted a gift card to cover the cost of what I'd had done at Paul Mitchell. Over the next 2 weeks I spoke to 3 people who each blew me off before I was passed to Sheridan the salon owner. She was so rude. She told me these were students & I should expect mistakes. Really? She said they would have fixed it for free when they were available (which was after my party). I told her my hair was healthy & there was no reason it wouldn't take color & she said it didn't sound like I needed them anyway. I certainly don't- finally we agree! Also, I watched a stylist continue to process a girl's hair from pink to hot pink as she tried to bleach it repeatedly. Yikes! There are great, less expensive salons in the Indianapolis areas. Nice building inside and staff is friendly. You get the salon experience here with much lower prices. Are you ready for the best part? When they wash your hair, they give you a spectacular head massage, too! It was so relaxing! However, if you are really picky about your hair (like I am) or if you are in a hurry, you'd be better off going somewhere else. Chelsea was my student stylist and she did a great job! I was impressed with how conscientious she was, making sure she knew what I wanted and explaining everything she was doing. It was a pleasure talking to her, too. :) Unfortunately, one of the trainers came over to "help" at the end. They did not take the time to familiarize themselves with what I wanted; they just started cutting. I left very dissatisfied. The infamous line, "If I could give zero stars, I would". That being said, I understand it is a school. I have been to schools before (none NEARLY as horrible and unprofessional as this school) and in fact, I have been to other PM schools before (LA locations). To address the obvious school statement, IT TOOK FOUR AND A HALF HOURS to highlight my hair that is above my shoulders. Anyways, that is (sort of) to be expected (3 hours is more reasonable, as a "real salon" can do it in 1.5-2). During my 4.5 hours there, I was asked "highlight or lowlight" and then nothing else really. I was subjected to listening to a 45 minute color lesson (for a student who is graduating in a week, eeeek). In which I would chime in with the EXACT color and highlight pattern I have used in the past (my real salon uses a PM color line). I was ignored. I was told that they didn't feel they had the time for all that (highlight and tone.....) and that my hair did not need it. I have had the same hair for years!!! I had to BEG them to tone it! BUT - here is the awful part, the unprofessionalism. My college-aged stylist went on and on about her sex life. A conversation I did not re-inforce at all. I felt very uncomfortable. The icing on the cake though, is when the "instructor" came over to inspect with POPCORN in her hand and got crumbs (from her MOUTH) in my hair. Hi, OSCA (or whatever it is) and better business bureau, I am calling you tomorrow. EWWWW. Side note: my hair looks just fine, but it was really 4.5 hours of TORTURE. read more

I have been to many salon academy's and have always had a reasonable experience. I am writing to say DO NOT chance it on this place!!! My appointment was set for 5:30 PM. The student worked on me until 9:15 PM. I was there to have my hair lightened from a dark brown to light brown. After four hours nearly and two rounds of lighter the student revealed my final hair color- and the manager had to be there as she did. The manager had watched the student though the entire process, and chosen all colors and chemicals to go in my hair. The end result- TANGERINE ORANGE hair. It was 9:15 PM, and they close at 10. I was adamant that I could not leave the salon with neon orange hair- and the manager twice said 'Im sorry we've run out of time'- I was appalled by the way the situation was handled. They made me pay for the entire thing, too. I left in tears and had orange hair for work. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy- Don't be fools by the fancy building. The management is not skilled enough to supervise students and the customer service is god awful. read more

I showed her a picture of how I wanted it and specifically told her that my natural hair color is dark and my roots are dark and I am trying to get AWAY from the dark hair look and want it light brown all over. I even showed her a picture of a blonde/brown color that I want. The student and her manager told me that they will make it light brown all over and ended up coming out PITCH BLACK DARK! When I complained they both wouldn't even bother to agree with me. Instead the girl and their manager "Mrs.B" showed me attitude and didn't even bother to fix it. This place gave me a perm approximately a month ago. I called them the next day and spoke with Abby, who gave me a complimentary perm redo. I arrived today 7/13/22 and waited for almost an hour for a phase 2 person to do my perm, who never arrived, then Abby came over and said all we have today is a phase 1 person. I said that I had just questioned the front desk about Hannah, who was running late and was the phase 2 person. Abby came over and said we couldn't do it after 6 p.m., so if Hannah comes in after that time, I won't be able to receive the perm today. That makes no sense to me. I wasn't a walk-in; I made an appointment over a month ago, so anyway I ended up agreeing to have another phase 1 person do my perm, and I told Abby that as long as they can make it tight, it'll be fine because the last time I was here, I kept telling the employees that were working on my hair that they weren't making the rod tight enough, it'll be too loose. "You can't talk to my workers like that," Abby said. I responded, "I don't understand. All I'm saying is that I want it tight." "OK," she said I should note that I contacted them this morning to confirm that I would be with a phase 2 person they said yes and that her name was Hannah. So, when I saw Abby pass my paper to two individuals, I went up and asked the front desk whether I would have two people because that's what happened the last time and one side looks completely different from the other because one person did one side and another person did the other. The lady got up from her desk without saying anything to me, so I sat down, and Abby stepped over and said, "I don't appreciate the way you're talking to my staff." I replied I simply had a question, and Abby responded, "I don't like your attitude." I said, "I'm sorry, I want it done correctly this time," and she added, "We're not going to do your hair." I replied, "Then give me my money back." She said, "No, we don't do that." I said, "Then I need to get my hair redone." She said we're not doing your hair. she replied you can go to my boss James w. I called and left a message concerning incredibly unacceptable behavior at this school. My hair is a frizzy mess. I've had to deal with horrible hair for a month and will have to deal with it even longer because they want to make up that I was unpleasant in some manner, which I absolutely do not believe I was. I was merely asking a question and indicating that I wanted a phase 2 person and that if I had to accept a phase 1 person, I would do so as long as they listen and tightened the rods otherwise, we'd be back in the same problem with redoing it. I get the impression that this school assumes they can just walk all over people and disregard the client's wishes because they're doing it cheaply. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that they're still training, which is why it's cheaper, but we're still paying for a service, and I expect some sort of decent hair. I've tried several times to call James W. at the business location without success, and the front desk personnel refuses to tell me when he'll be there. I've left him an email and a voice mail, and I've called twice a day, once in the morning and once in the late afternoon, because I don't know when he'll be in, and I figured if he doesn't come in in the mornings, he's got to be there in the afternoons, but still nothing, and now a woman named Madison has told me that I can't call there anymore. I do expect some sort of response from this company; this is not the way to operate a business and have consumers treated in this manner, and now I'm being told I can't call a business by someone who isn't the manager/owner. I'm not sure what type of business you all operate by allowing your employees to act in this way, but it's unprofessional. Update: It is now 7/15/22, and despite two emails and a phone message to James, he has still not opted to contact me. read more

And if you're in a hurry don't be cause it will take 2-3 times longer than your usual hair stylist. The staff have always been friendly and never rude same with the students. So happy with my daughters' experience. My 17 year old went to Paul Mitchell back in April for a haircut, highlights and eyebrow wax. She was very apprehensive about doing anything different with her hair but was so happy once she did it. Lauren Brown did a great job. Her highlights were so natural looking and blended so well. She also didn't take too much length off. She took just enough for it to look healthy and beautiful. Her eyebrow wax was great too. Needless to say, when my 14 year old said she wanted to get highlights there was no doubt where and who we would be going to. Yesterday was her appointment day. She had an amazing experience too. Her hair looks so beautiful. You would think the hairdresser she went to would have had twenty years of experience. You'd never guess it was an 18 year old girl that did it. Fried hair, high price even with a groupon and unhappy customer! I bought a color groupon but they wouldn't honor it for a highlight so I then bought a highlight groupon. It's $10 per bowl after the 1st so I had to buy 4 extra bowls (even though she did only the top 1/2) and a toner for $50 over the groupon. By the time she checked my hair was really light on one side so she left it on really long to make it match. It took 5 hours and my hair was fried!!! They refuse to refund the color groupon even though the groupon itself says it can be presented at The School for purchase price at anytime. As a student here you would probably expect a better review. But sadly it should be lower than a one. Students are taught to brush off mistakes and hide them. They are treated poorly by staff and are paying so much for so little. Products were being used and so they got locked up, when we would ask to use them they would deny and say to use what we have. Then, they claim we are paying for the products we use over the time period in school. Everything is a charge. If we want to color our mannequin heads we have to pay, if we want to partake in dress up days WE HAVE TO PAY. There is no say where the money goes. Our director didnt even know they were charging students on mondays. So where is this money going? Months after signing the contract, things started to change. Worksheets were getting more strict on time, wifi was taken away and we are called cheap asses because we cant afford unlimited data, and then our time is being taken away as well. There is no room for all of the students and so in class they have us outside in the loading dock to have class. There is garbage and more laying about as we work. For anyone thinking about going here, dont. Save your money and go else where. Anywhere is better than here read more

I've been to hair stylists and salons who charge me upwards of $200 to cut, color, and style my hair, or over $40 just to cut it. At Paul Mitchell, it's always a mere quarter of that, and so far, I've got nothing but amazing results (knock on wood) if not better results than other salons. I've had three different students work on my hair there, and it seems each one is more personable than the last. Their products are pricey but worth it, as I usually spend a nice amount on my long hair. I know it sounds like somebody paid me to write this, but nope! So far, I've been really impressed (again, knock on wood!). Since I don't have a huge expense account, I'm so glad they are there. read more

The students are great! they pay a lot of attention to detail. I went for highlights last week and Kami did a great job! Although I do have some complaints about the supervising staff and the front desk people. The supervising staff is limited so there arent enough people to monitor each student. Most of the time you spend in the salon is waiting for a supervisor to come check over your head. The front desk staff is very poor. I had booked an appointment saturday 7/9, for wednesday 7/13, I was headed into the salon on 7/13 just for them to be calling me to tell me that i couldn't be with my requested stylist that day and could they put me with a different person. Now normally this wouldn't be an issue for me when i'm at a beauty school, but they didn't call me to tell me until 15 minutes before the appointment. Also, one of the supervisors had instructed the student cutting my hair that she was going to show her a new technique for my style, but not to use the technique if she wasn't directly supervising her. So tell me why when the student tried to find this "supervisor" she was no where to be found. When I had finally gotten a little irritated about it I had made a comment about how i just wanted them to do whatever they needed to to get me out of the chair and for my hair to look like the picture i had given. She proceeded to get lippy, so I had questioned her about "where were you when the student needed you to cross-check her work, and you were no where to be found while i sat and waited?" she said "Well, I don't think that's any of your business." I responded with, "If you had instructed this student that she shouldn't perform this technique unless under your supervision, I think it is my business, because it's my hair." needless to say, my haircut was free, and the supervisor finished it. I have been pleased with all of the work I've had done here, except this school preaches all the time about "professionalism" when I don't think the staff is as "professional" as they think. All in all, I would return, but only when i have AMPLE time (meaning atleast a 4 hour block of time) to have my hair done. read more

I have been to this school/business three different occasion. The first experience was great. The student, receptionist and team leader really took care of me. The second time not as much, but I thought they were just having an off day. The girl messed up a little, which really was not a problem until she called me crazy for telling her she went to far in on the left one. The 3rd time I did not even stay to get my hair cut and my eyebrows waxed. The receptionist quoted me 10 minutes and I waited 25. That is 15 minutes longer than the quote! I got up and left because there were three receptionist at the desk and none of them bothered to check in with me and let me know why it was taking so much longer or even check to see what was going on. One girl was eating at the desk which is very unprofessional and they were all talking about their weekends. I was miss quoted the each time before but the first time the one girl that was there apologized and checked in to ensure me that it would be any moment. The second time the girl was the only one there and the school was very busy. I understand that it is hard for one girl to keep up with everyone, but there was three girls are the station today and not one of them was appeared to be working. I decided to take my business to Regis in the mall where I paid 60.00 (not including the tip) Where I was quoted 15 minutes and was in the chair in 10. I much rather pay more when my business and time is respected. After the last two I will not be coming back and I will ensure my friends and family do not either. read more
