We purchased a mandolin from Mr. Doyle. It did need some reconditioning. We paid cash for it, with the clear understanding that the repairs would be made and that it would be shipped to us in the USA. He told us 6 weeks. That turned into 3 months. Then the excuses started. Then he stopped answering emails and taking phone calls. After a year, we sent him a letter which was returned to us unopened. He never returned the money owed.
He might be an outstanding luthier, but he is certainly lacking in his obligation and sense of duty to those who purchase his wares in good faith. I would love for him to prove me wrong. A mandolin or returning the money plus interest would be a decent start. read more
