Patuá Dance is a multicultural dance-theatre company based at Chapter Arts Centre in Canton, formed in 1993 by Brazilian choreographer and dancer Fernanda Amaral, who is herself a warm and charismatic character.
She wanted to take dance out of its usual context and into all sorts of other environments, whether it was onto the streets, into shopping centres, or at conference centres.
The dance company's shows are always lively and colourful, and don't depend on any technology - which frees them up to perform anywhere!
Their shows combine dance, theatre and music from Latin and European cultures, and they've made a name for themselves at some of the major global festivals such as WOMAD, Edinburgh Festival and La Marato in Barcelona. In Cardiff, look out for them at local carnivals, or running dance workshops for all ages and abilities. read more
