These guys are mess up big time and are completely unprofessional and have zero accountability.
That's why they are cheap.
Don't use them.
I took in 1 bicycle frame to get clear coated and test them out.
It turned out fine, so I took back a more intricate higher level bicycle frame.
first of all they missed spots on the frame (half of the bottom bracket shell wasn't covered) They sanded certain sections and coated again (which leaves ugly lines)
This time they didn't even plug the holes, so they got powder coat inside all the tubes and in the threads which meant even more work to clean up
I took it home, not too happy, but tried to make the best of it.
I road the bike for a week in sunny weather before leaving on a trip for a month. I came back and the powder coat was flaking off and rusting underneath.
Not good!
I went to the shop to show them the frame and see what could be done to resolve the situation.
This is the gist of the conversation with the younger Patson:
I've got some problems with my frame. The powder coat is flaking off and rusting underneath.. (immediately cut off by him)
--that's because it's clear.
It worked perfectly last time.
--it's 50/50, I told you that when you came in. (didn't happen and I didn't talk to him when I went in)
I didn't talk to you when I came in and I was told it would wor..(cut off).
--There must have been rust underneath.
I did a fresh sand and.. (cut off again)
--you must not have cleaned it properly.
I did clean it before I brought it in and I was told that it would be cleaned and prepped here as well. I just wanted to take the extra precaution.
I did a wipe down with acetone and... (cut off)
--ACETONE?? in a huge suprise of an exagerated overacted performance.. that's why.. it embeds in the metal.
It's the standard that I was taught and is extremely common in chromoly frame buildin.. cut off (I was taught this method by world Champion frame builder Yamaguchi)
--don't tell me what's common... I'm a military contractor.. I coat for cannondale and others.. (well.. it's a different material. aluminum, not steel and Yamaguchi is a top level builder who taught me proper preparation)
(I didn't want to get into an argument. I only wanted resolution, so I continued..)
Wait.. so you're telling me that I brought my frame in here and was told you guys could prep and clear coat it with powder. That obviously didn't work and you're not going to do anything about it?
--No. It's not our problem.
You messed up my frame and are costing me more time and money
--Eat a dick (what?? super pro!)
You f'd up my frame
--F you
F you
He continued to curse at me as I left and walked down the block.
I can't believe all the levels of how bad these guys could be.
Definitely NOT RECOMMENDED. read more
