If a friendly stranger with a big camera comes traipsing up to you in the snow and asks to take…read moreyour photo, let him. He likely works for Zoom Photo a local photography shop that prints actually photos on professional quality paper. The last time we were down in the area for the holiday we headed to Barèges after a huge snowfall to go sledding. The mountain was full of super soft, glaringly white powder. We parked up the top of the big slope where everyone goes sledding and decided to make our way down through the snow drifts instead of walking down the road. We quickly realized that there was no way to head down gracefully as the drifts came up our thighs and the snow was so powdery that every time we tried to get the sled to go it just sank down and got stuck. Patience was running a little thin, my kid was started to get antsy, gloves were falling off, snow was getting under pants..... Just then a friendly guy started walking towards us with large confident strides through the snow. He had a big camera with him, and asked us if we wanted to have our photos taken free of charge. It was exactly what we needed, a little family regroup and moment to take a look around at the gorgeous mountains surrounding us and appreciate how cool it was to be there. He took a bunch of photos of us together and individually and told us that we could have a look at the contact sheet of the pics later that day at Zoom Photo. Later that day I headed over and spent a good 30 minutes obsessing over the contact sheet trying to decided which to get as they were all so good. I settled on 4 prints as they were doing a four-for-the-price-of-three sale. I think it came to 12E for each black and white print on professional RC paper, definitely not a giveaway but such an awesome treat in today's digital age and just the perfect gift to leave with the grandparents we were staying at. My only critiques are that the prints could have benefitted from a bit more contrast and some lightening up in certain spots, plus they only accept cash which is very inconvenient when you're spending upwards on 50E on a somewhat impulse purchase.
