Patrice Newell runs an organic farm in Gundy, NSW (out near Scone). Olives and garlic are her thing. We bought her garlic once and haven't been able to buy regular supermarket garlic again.
What you tend to get in supermarkets is old, imported, bleached (to make it nice and white) and varieties that keep well in cold store but frankly have very little flavour. Partice's garlic isn't like that. Its picked fresh on her farm and properly dried for long keeping. Its unbleached and unadulterated. Beautiful cloves of purple garlic. And the flavour. Oh the flavour. Amazing, intense, aromatic. Garlic like you have never tasted before.
You might have worked out by now that I'm a bit of a garlic fan. In our house if it doesn't have garlic.. its dessert (and I did make garlic icecream once... don't ask). We go through heaps of garlic. Fortunately for us she sells in 1/2, 1, 3 and 5 kilo boxes. Delivered fresh from her farm to your door through her online shop.
Be aware though that she sells only when its in season so if its the wrong time of year are you are out of garlic.. its back to the inferior supermarket garlic for you my friend. Plan ahead. Its safe to buy in bulk because it keeps for ages (because its properly dried rather than just being bunged in a cold store).
If you aren't quite such a massive garlic fan as we are, you may want to split a box between a group. But once you've tasted it, you will be hooked as well. read more
