I love the cinema. Its is an escape from the crazy modern world. PATHÉ DE MUNT is a great "movie plex". Not overly big, not too small. A manageable multiscreen offering. Saw 'Limitless' Film last night at Pathé de Munt. I enjoyed this film.The film, stars Robert De Niro, Abbie Cornish and Anna Friel centers on a down-and-out guy who takes a "smart pill" and suddenly becomes a Mega-brain on steroids.Cinemas here are conveniently located in the center of Amsterdam. Dutch cinemas screens all movies in their original language version with Dutch subtitles. Movies are in English or in several other foreign languages. Cinemas here can get very busy on the weekend like any other city. So it's smart to book early! It's best to book online, if not then make sure you hit the theater early. The tickets are around €10, as for the popcorn, junk food and beverages, I would say it's pretty reasonable. You don't have to worry about the concession stand emptying your wallet. Warning don't expect some gigantic box of popcorn or beverage. It won't happen..... this is not the USA where they encourage obesity. However my Dutch boyfriend said all though American popcorn is very fatty..... it does taste better! read more

Before I knew of Pathe de Munt, I didn't understand the concept of love, but since frequenting this cinema, I have grasped the emotion by the horns and fell into blissful buckets of movie tickets and popcorn. Pathe de Munt is a magical place, the people are always lovely, the prices are always reasonable, the snacks are always great, and the atmosphere is always lovely. Good movie theater but who numbers the front row the highest number?!?! Row 1 is at the very back and row 10 at the very front. Crazy.

The is my default multiplex cinema in the center of Amsterdam. During particular (religious holi)-days it can be extremely busy and I make a point of not going on those days. If you have the luxury of 'weekends-during-the-week' or just a day off, it pays to try see the first screening of the day of the film you want to see as you will have a good chance of being the only one in the theatre. This multiplex shows mainly blockbuster and mainstream films, though they also have some 'art house' or less mainstream films. All films are shown with their original soundtrack and subtitles, unless specifically stated. It's mostly children's films that are dubbed. Most of those dubbed films are also available in the original version ('OV'). As a previous review commented, it can get rather busy so it's good to reserve some time in case you need to queue up at the counter or self service kiosks. If you have reserved your ticket online you might still reserve that extra time to be able to retrieve it from the counter or the self service kiosks within 30 min prior to the screening. I have to say that over the past few years the place has really learned to better manage large groups of people (this wasn't always the case). In case of nuisance during the film the cinema has a special SMS number to report what you think need taken care off. As a previous reviewer points out the crowd can be a bit noisy sometimes, usually this is only during the first few minutes of a film. My personal tactic (I can't stand people chatting through a film in a cinema!) is to evaluate and see how long this has been going on and use some humour to point out that not everybody can hear what they are saying, sometimes I simply join in a conversation. Usually people get the point. This doesn't happen enough though for me to skip this multiplex, except on previously mentions (religious) holiday(s). read more

Disclaimer: This is my first time in a movie theater outside of the United States. It was the loudest I have ever heard in a theater. Don't people know to unwrap their candies and such before the movie? It was a background noise and I could hear the movie just fine because the sound was so high. We went to see Hunger Games and when they showed the jet plane-type thing, I wanted to cover my ears because it sounded as loud as a jet plane...same with the explosions! The seats were comfy and the view was great. The film went along without any issues. I'm not sure if they give assigned seats to every showing (I know I saw a film on opening weekend, so it might be different), but I kind of liked that. I'm not sure that the flow of the entrance of the theater makes a whole lot of sense. Signage definitely helped but with so many sign and movie posters it's hard to even catch the signs. I think the layout could be better. But ultimately, it's a large theater in the middle of a major European city, so there's that. And in case you are wondering, from what I've read, most movies stay in English unless they are children's films. read more

Central, lot of Movie theatres in the same complex. It is quite crowded all the time and the audience can be quite on the young side and noisy but over all a very very good venue. Very well organised. Bare in mind you might have to queue a bit at the ticket counter and/or at the automatic ticket machines. Usual Pathe' bar with all the goodies to enjoy your movie :) It is clean and kept in order all the time from the very numerous crew. read more

One of the bigger Pathé theaters in the city center, this is your quintessential Amsterdam movie experience. Very accessible, spacious, and clean. The movie selection is very decent with more screens than other locations to provide you with weeklong entertainment. My highlight was the special Halloween screenings this year. They even had ghosts walking around the building. This is how you spoil movie lovers. read more

This is my standard movie theater since it's closest to my house and has most movies. I like it fine, but it has some issues. 1. The bathrooms are in very odd spots, so you need to know where they are and how to get back to where you were because there are just random stairs everywhere! 2. Always some very rude and loud people in the theater! I can't tell you how many times I wanted to yell SHUT UP!!! during the movies, but I bite my tongue. They are also texting and facebooking and who knows what else, so you see that dim light coming from the phones. 3. The chairs are not made for cuddling at all. There's a big divider between them that is too wide and can't be removed. So for a romantic date at the movies, it's not the best theater. 4. Always very busy... so you have to wait in line to use one of the kiosks and good parking your bike can be a bit challenging, but that's nothing new for Amsterdam! On the plus side.. it seems a bit cheaper than others! And I like the movie selection and times. read more

Great movie theatre in the heart of the city. It has two big screens which show regular 2D and 3D films. Snacks are great, the staff is friendly and its location is near Rembrandtplein so you can go get a drink after the movie. read more

Second largest theatre of the apathetic chain in Amsterdam! They are nicely located in Muntplain, and they offer mostly blockbusters with the occasional arty movie. They occasionally also hold film festivals for which you have to buy tickets in advance. They have the expected variety of snacks and drinks in a theatre. If you are big on movies, I would recommend getting the pathe card, which allows you to watch movies unlimitedly and you also get a discount in your snacks! read more

It is a multiplex movie theater with 2 floors and 13 screens and over 2400 seats belonging to the Pathe Cinema Group. It is located right in the middle of Amsterdam near Rembrandtplein. Pathe also owns the Tuschinski theater near by and the City theater near Leidseplein. The movies showing here normally is main stream Hollywood movies. I have a monthly movie card and this is the main theater that I go to. The theater can get pretty crowded especially on the weekend. For a popular movie, it is better to book in in advance to make sure you got a seat. Over the years, they have been getting better in streamline the process for the purchasing tickets. There are around 6 machines that you can purchase tickets yourself. There are also 2 machines at the second floor that you can simply print out the tickets if you already purchased the tickets online. Most people don't know about it and there is hardly any line at all. There are 2 concessions in the theater. One at the second floor and there is another one at the fourth floor. If you are watching movie at the top floor, then you can skip the line and use the concession at the top floor. The theater also show special event once a year like - Het International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). During the festival, half of the movie screens will be dedicated to IDFA movies. Once a month, the theater also organize special movie for Ladies night, Gay night, over 50 night, kids day, etc. You can check the cinema website for more details. I was here yesterday for "ladies night", an special event that some pathes hold every now and then, specially for ladies with some kind of romantic comedy or "lady style movie". I do like this cinema, it's all right and quite good for being in old the city centre. It's spacious, there are a lot of rooms and service is good. The ladies night though, was a disappointment. I went there specially to enjoy the event and not really the movie, since I don't really like it at all (it was fifty shades of grey) and you are supposed to arrive one hour early to mingle and get free drinks, etc. It was really dirty and people were leaving their glasses everywhere and there was a lot of popcorn on the floor. Everything seemed very unorganized, there were some signs that were hand written with some sayings from the movie which made me feel like I was in a school event or something. Some stands were selling some weird stuff, or bags or accessories. Upstairs there were stands selling sex toys and other things that matched the movie theme. The champagne wasn't really good so I stuck with the orange juice which was even worse. When we got to the movie room, we had goodie bags waiting for us on the seats and a free drink. They also have us "free popcorn" which consisted of this yogurt raspberry popcorn in a super small bag. Not complaining too much but I thought we'd the real thing. There was someone to lead us to our seats which was nice since it was packed and people were all over the place. Before the movie started a guy came in the room announcing they were supposed to have a stripper (like other ladies nights I've seen) but he didn't come or whatever. Not that I was looking forward to that but, just seemed like they failed there, the women we're disappointment. They had a raffle with a lot of prizes and a lot of women had the opportunity to win, although some items were silly, other were nice. Like gift cards for some nice stores, goodie bags (good ones) and other stuff. I'm not gonna review the movie here Obv, because this is only for the ladies night event, and they always have different movies. But let's just say those are two hours of my life I'll never get back hahaha (sorry 50 shades fans. I bet the book was good though!!) The goodie bag was a bit disappointing, I think It could be a bit more tasteful even with cheap things. There was a chips bag, a sample of toothpaste, some samples of products you can get in magazines, a gossip magazine, an eyeshadow, some dutch candy (drops), and other random stuff. Keep in mind this was the "normal" ticket to the ladies night, sometimes they have the deluxe one available. This time at pathe de munt they didn't have the deluxe ticket available. You are supposed to get better stuff if you buy that. Overall I was disappointment by the event, but I ended up having a good time because I had brought a good friend with me. No one was mingling anyway and everyone was just doing their own business. The staff was very helpful and nice, so it's not a service problem but really just pathe having low standards. I don't know how the ladies night went at pathe arena or other pathe locations, but this was my experience with it this time. Just an average theatre and nowhere near the fun and quality of it's neighbor Tuschinski. Nevertheless it's the closest one to my home so most the time I visit it if not looking for 3D or IMAX experience. They do have a good selection of movies most of the time which is good to compete with the others. Also most times I have been it was very crowded which can be a little much, especially on opening nights. read more

Your standard movie theater and the set up (escalators, concession stand) is just a modern notch up from nearby Pathé City. I mostly wanted to write this review to let Unlimited cardholders know that there IS card control here: upon showing them your movie ticket, you also have to prove that you're the cardholder. Not that I would condone cheating, but I was personally curious as to how an Unlimited membership is enforced when most of the ticket purchases are made online/at a kiosk - seems that this is the only location (that I know of) that does this, so just a heads up in case you thought it would be a good idea to pass your card around! read more

The biggest multiplex in the city center, this is the place to go for all the mainstream Hollywood films and blockbusters. Not my favourite Pathé, since it can be unbearably busy and have annoying public who talks through the movies. However, I keep coming back because if it's convenient location and has a good selection of movie showtimes. read more

Multiplex type cinema with over a dozen screens. This place was newly built around 2000. They show all the blockbusters. Industrial scale moviegoing here. Beware. Sound systems and seating are as may be expected. Ticket prices are a bit higher than at Cineville. read more

This is a bigger, more modern theater than it's sister theater around the corner (Pathé Tuschinski). It's also a bit of a younger crowd that can be a little more talkative/distracting at times. When you want to see a blockbuster with a lively crowd this is the place to go. If you are on a date, I'd suggest Pathé Tuschinski around the corner instead. read more
