This is my favorite movie spot in the city, and yes, I have seen most of them. If you like the quintessential movie experience with the crowds and huge stadium seating, then this is not the place for you. But, if you enjoy a more intimate setting which is in the heart of the city's 'entertainment area' and is generally frequented by serious movie-goers, you will absolutely love Pathe City. They recently renovated the downstairs area with some seating and a coffee bar, which is great if you arrive earlier for a movie. Speaking of which, Pathe City shares the building with Little Buddha and a casino next door, meaning you don't even have to leave the building to skip over to those spots. There are a LOT of steps as already mentioned. Seating is nicer than the theater at Muntplein, with cup holders on armrests instead of below the seat in front (I never understood that weird concept anyway). Since it's next to Little Buddha, if you watch a movie on a late weekend night and happen to be at the wrong theater, you might hear some background music. Depending on the movie, it might not be all that bad. One time, they offered to refund ticket money to anyone who was getting bothered by the music. My only gripe with Pathe City is that it seems to only screen the more tasteful movies, which is good if you are trying to get into a show of 'Safe Haven', but not if you fancy the latest in the 'Hangover' series. I guess it's part of their plan to target a certain demographic. read more

Right beside Leidseplein, very central, close to all Amsterdam night life attractions AND connected with Little Buddha bar and sushi restaurant. Recently renovated, it is nice. Theaters are quite small but with good seats. You need to do at least 2 floors to get to the first level. As of now it is the best Pathe theater in town... I think. No mice seen yet :) read more

Great location to catch a quick movie. While we were in Amsterdam they had a freak heat wave. Therefore, we retreated to this movie theater twice to get out of the heat. We saw Jurassic World and the Minions movie. Buy your tickets early, because you can reserve seating. We did not know this. However, if the person doesn't come to claim the tickets by a certain time, then they are opened up. This saved us when we went to see the Minions. The seats are plush and this place is really clean. It is interesting how the theater is built up instead of spread out. Just something that is different than most theaters in the states. read more

We came out here early in the morning to see the Butler film. A great cinema and wonderful American film worth checking out. I look forward to returning back to this nice and simple theater. In the future i will try to see more films in the morning, it is a great way to avoid the crowd. read more

Clean facilities and located in a bustling part of town--though that may be a bad thing, depending on your preferences . The projector used for the film I saw seemed to be working well and was of good quality; there were no grainy sports or dusty patches on the screen which was nice. The tickets and food are so expensive here that I can't give more stars. My ticket was over 10 euro and my bottled water was another 2. My wallet wept. read more

I've been to all three of the Pathes in Amsterdam and I realised the other day, that it costs the most to see 3D movies in this particular cinema! In order of cheapest to most expensive: Pathe de Munt, then Pathe Tuschinski and lastly, Pathe City. Odd right? Pathe City is also the smallest but I think it has the most range in titles (from blockbusters to the more art house flicks). But be sure to buy your tickets before hand because more often than not, the tickets sell out. And given that winter is brewing, I'm sure it'll be busier than ever in the coming months! read more

The smallest Pathé location in Amsterdam. This one is located next to Leidseplein. The screens here are usually a bit smaller than the ones in the Munt. There still are a lot of movies playing though, all kinds; from blockbusters to more artistic ones. The buffet is al bit smaller than at the Munt but is similar to the buffet at Pathe Tuschinski. So it's fine. I know that there is a good dinner/movie deal with the Little Buddha restaurant next door, so that might be interesting. I never tried it since I have a Pathe Unlimited card. read more

My goto Pathe cinema in Amsterdam has always been Pathe de Munt at Muntplein. It's big, has all the blockbusters and easy to reach by public transport. Due to a logistical miscalculation I ended up being late for a film I wanted to see 'Blue Jasmine' (I just love Cate Blanchett). So I went for the next available screening of the film, which would be at Pathe City. Before the renovation, I had only been once before and the experience was so bad that I asked for my money back and they obliged, this time it's quite the opposite!! The moment I walked into the cinema I noticed how clean and well kept it it, nicely quiet (It was only mid-day I must admit), but mostly it was an explosion of cleanliness! I even commented on it to one of the staff on duty. The building is a bit of a maze with lots of stairs (also facilities for those in a wheelchair btw). The staff was super friendly, and like I said the place just sparkled. I'm sure that most auditoriums are not as but (probably most are much smaller) as those in Pathe de Munt, but this cinema has won me over. If I can choose between a screening of the same film at Pathe de Munt or Pathe City, next time it will be Pathe City! read more

My husband and I are frequent visitors to this movie theater since signing up for our Pathe Unlimited cards. Navigating the Leidseplein crowds and climbing a ton of stairs to get to your movie aside, I gotta say that this is our favorite Pathé location! Why? Well - the seats somehow feel more comfy that the other theaters and the first time we went to an early morning movie, we were greeted with fresh croissants and juice/coffee. To our surprise, they offered us gratis ontbijt (how do you like my Dutch? Obviously I am trying to master the food vocab first...) with movies starting before 11am! Apparently, this is the only Pathé location in Amsterdam that does this, and if you're not an Unlimited card holder, you can still take advantage of it with a reduced rate ticket price for morning shows. C'mon American theaters - step up your matinee game! read more

I'm an avid movie goer and I have to say that out of all the Pathe cinemas in Amsterdam, the Pathe city is one of the most convenient ones but also the one with the smallest screens and it is located very close to Leidseplein, so over the weekends, the influx of locals and visitors looking for a a big night out could be a bit overwhelming. Aside from that the range of movies and snacks is the same as in any other cinema in Amsterdam. read more

I've always neglected going to this theatre because it was ugly and unkept. But recently I decided to give it a shot...and I wasn't disappointed, in the least. The theatre is new and looks great (clean, updated equipment). The staff is extremely friendly and just a pleasure to speak to. I've visited this theatre three times so far and I must say I keep finding more and more I love about it. I usually go to Pathé De Munt because it's closer (and mostly out of habit). But this location is winning me over more and more. One of the things I like about this theatre is that it's smaller than De Munt and feels more intimate. I'm not fighting the big crowds of De Munt. The locations perfect for dinner and drinks either before or after your movie. Being in the heart of Leidseplein you're right in the midst of all the action. This is the street for tourist and therefore it has lots to eat and drink (quality might be questionable though). read more

This is probably my favourite Pathé in Amsterdam. It's not as spectacular in decor as Tuchinski but it has its own charms. It was fully renovated about 5 years ago so everything is relatively new and updated. This cinema caters more to independent films and foreign language European films so it doesn't have any big halls, just many smaller screens. It's built over several levels, and there's no escalators but if you're not up to climbing several sets of stairs there is a lift from the lobby upwards. If you're looking to see that buzzed about French film or limited release independent movie then this is the cinema for you! read more

Solid theater with tons of automated kiosks (no lines) and comfortable seats. Caught a 3D showing of Brave that was on one of the smaller screens, but the theater itself was clean and had good picture quality and sound. read more
