We were able to get a table right away even though it was pretty crowded on a Saturday morning. I wanted to look at the pastries and order there, but the whole process was a little chatoic. I told the woman behind the counter that I was sitting down at a table, and she told me she would hand it to my waiter. After waiting a bit, our waiter had to come back and ask what I ordered, and it seemed like he wasn't able to find it. Eventually he did come back with the correct order, and he was very apologetic about it. We haven't had the best service in Italy, but our server here was amazing! He was so kind and made the experience that much better. As for the pastries, I got the croissant with vanilla cream and the raspberry maritozzo. I wasn't expecting to like the maritozzo because I don't usually like cream puffs, but this one was so different from the ones I've had in the US! The cream was so light and fluffy, and the brioche bread was the perfect accompaniment. The raspberry jam added a nice tart flavor to it as well. Overall, this place gets a little crowded sometimes, but it's a great place to stop by when you're shopping!

Stremati da una camminata interminabile per il centro di Milano, abbiamo deciso di trattarci bene e di fare un piccolo aperitivo dolce in una delle pasticcerie storiche di Milano. We could see a lot of locals come and go, sipping coffee and eating quickly at the counter, so it seemed this place was quite popular in the morning. There are some seats inside where you can sit, but it seems you need to order & pay at the counter first. The drinks came out very quickly, and pastries were good. If you are staying in the area, this place is a good option for breakfast.

You pay at the register and take your ticket to the gelato counter and choose your flavors. They are happy to give you samples. I had my heart set on a real Italian gelato. Flavors ranged from fruity to milky. I ended up choosing the milk flavor and a sort of nutty, snickers flavor. It was so creamy and incredible! Everyone in the store was Italian so it was not touristy at all but a real locals spot. This will be my go-to for gelato in Milan!

If you want to treat yourself after some haute-couture shopping in Via Montenapoleone, it's a good segue that's not going to set you back... any less. At any rate, I consider Bastianello a must-see attraction in Milan, even if it's just for a standing espresso, the Italian way. But if you're willing to indulge, you have options aplenty. The "brioches" in their viennoiserie section are outstanding, and while they look like a "cornetto" or "croissant", they're something else. The apricot-filled ones are definitely a new. But it's not just sweets. If you're sitting down, there's a full menu to pick from, and I would say that the omelet is a must. It's not a simple omelet, it's a huge masterpiece, perfectly arranged on the dish with a salad side. Traditional desserts are also available, such as tiramisu or chocolate coulant. The lunch menu is nothing short of impressive, and if you choose the "Classico" instead of the "Light" version, you're offered additional snacks, like homemade potato chips. My all-time favorite, regardless of the season, is the "caffè con gelato", a DIY affogato, so to speak. I recommend the hazelnut flavor for the gelato, over which you can pour the espresso as you see fit. The way it's presented is priceless, and if you order it at the bar, it's less-priced, pun intended. Suit up, and enjoy.

But if you happen to be around, either for the nearby post office or the medical exams centre across the street... or maybe if you just like to explore nice breakfast spots, a quick stop at Mr. Moussa might make your day a bit brighter (on a rainiy day like today, it did for me). Anyhow, the place is located in a corner, just outside the Villa San Giovanni metro stop, it has big windows excellent for people-watching, stools and a couple of tables, but the best part is their breads and sweets bar! Donuts, croissants, all kinds of breads, focaccia, everything just out of the oven. Even their cappuccinos are good! Nice, young staff, ok prices (2,20 euros for a cappuccino and a delicious croissant filled with raspberry marmalade), if I ever become a morning person I could wake up earlier to have breakfast here more often, otherwise I'll keep it for the weekends.

I was literally stunned! In past years, asking for coffee to go was a major social faux pas equivalent to directly insulting the proprietor and the restaurant. In other words, "If you don't want to drink our coffee here, get the heck out!" Apparently, Italy or at least Milano is changing! Well, this is a sample of one so I suspect your mileage will vary! They have these mini pizza bites that have tomato, cheese, and anchovy on them and they were so good I am still thinking about them weeks later. The baked goods are constantly streaming out of the kitchen, so everything is fresh and warm and fantastic. The place is small, but clean, modern, and welcoming. I felt like I was eating what local people eat and not just what they sell to tourists, so it was a great experience.
