This review is long overdue for our visit back in November of 2024. I was looking up Nduja recipe…read moreand reminded myself this was the place that initiated my love for Nduja sauce. American/Aussie owned bakery brunch spot by the river, such a cute little eatery. We loved our visit and though it's definitely more of a touristy spot, as most customers spoke English, the food was delicious to forgo the tourist trappy vibes. We shared a plate and added some items as we didn't want to get too stuffed on our first day of Florence. We had the Nduja Eggs plate with bacon and avocado added. Nduja is a spicy Calabrian pepper spreadable pork sauce, and oh boy was it so flavorful. If I remembered correctly, Melaleuca spread this sauce on top of a fried bread and eggs. I don't see it on the menu at the moment and it's probably a rotatable dish... but it definitely kicked started my hunt for the sauce. Since this is a spreadable pork, it's not something I could bring back to the US but I was able to find it online back home. The service was amazing and the beverages were delicious. Like many Italian places, the dining room is small and bathroom is a single small room that might require a small wait if they're busy. Didn't get to try their baked goods this last time, but definitely on our list to go back for more when we're back to Florence for a visit.

Leonardo only gets the very best of foods and ingredients from around Florence to serve to his customers. It is in the east section of Florence which is in an area of where just the local Florentines live. Located on Via Gioberti that is lined with shops it is a wonderful 30 minute walk from busy tourist Duomo to see true Italian everyday Florence and enjoy his wonderful cafe.

Luckily, it wasn't me who always had to go get all of the coffee because the employees always seem annoyed by my presence or the presence of a long list of coffees to make. (Italians don't always like foreigners, especially English speaking ones). When time allows, I like to meet my friends and go here before work, where I am barely even looked at and never greeted with a "buongiorno" "ciao" nothing, when everyone around me is greeted kindly AND with a smile (which is rare for some employees here). Not only does it get crowded, but when you feel completely unwelcome after years of business, then all want to come back here fades quickly. I will not be giving them my business anymore.
