    2. Iskender Kebab

Pasha Turkish Restaurant deserves all the praise. This small, cozy spot completely won me over from the moment we walked in. I came here once a while ago and it was my first time ever trying Iskender kebab and I genuinely fell in love. The flavors were rich, comforting, and perfectly balanced, and now I can honestly say no other restaurant compares. We came here again to celebrate my husband's birthday and it turned into one of the most memorable dining experiences we've had, we ordered the Iskender once again and it didn't disappoint. For dessert we ordered Sutlac, which I learned is served cold, and it completely surprised me in the best way. It was so smooth, lightly sweet, and couldn't have been better. I also love intimate restaurants like this, and the vibe here is outstanding, warm and inviting, and the service is genuinely kind and attentive, making the whole experience feel even more special.

Pasha Turkish restaurant in Houston recently celebrated their 20th anniversary last year, serving Turkish inspired cuisine to the neighboring Rice University community. My nephew and I had the pleasure of having an early dinner dine-in in their comfortable dining room, and we really enjoyed their great food and service. I don't ever remember going to a strictly Turkish restaurant before, but looking at the menu, soon realized it is very similar to Greek and Mediterranean food, with dishes like kebabs, falafel, and hummus. The setting is like a renovated ground floor of a large residential home, with some parking spots out in front. We had our choice of seats on one side of the restaurant. Water and Turkish bread (called bazlama), along with an olive oil dip were provided. The bread was similar to a pita bread, but a lot fluffer...very delicious and refilled as we used it along with our entree. Both of us like meat, so we ordered thdeir specialty: Pasha mixed platter for two ($37.99) consisting of five different kabobs, each with enough to sample for two - doner - lamb and beef sliced thin from a spit (like a trompo for al pastor taco) adana - lamb and beef sausage grilled on a skewer (removed before serving) chicken adana - chicken sausage lamb shish kebab - chunks of solid lamb chicken shish kebab - chunks of solid chicken All the various meats were served on a bed of rice, with grilled tomatoes, cooked red cabbage, and both white and red raw onions. It was a good amount of food. My favorite by far was the doner, and that's what I would get again and again here. The meat was sliced thinly enough for to be stuffed in the bazlama, and eaten as a sandwich. The lamb shish kebab was excellent as well, tasting very similar to a rich cut of beef. We got a late recommendation from my sister-in-law to get two spreads with our meal, which came out quickly. The hummus ($7.99) was decent, spreadable on the bread. But the star was the lebni ($7.99) ...a strained yogurt (similar to Greek) with walnuts but a lot thicker with a more mild taste...reminded me of a very fresh tzatziki. My favorite bite was one combining the doner inside a bazlama, adding cabbage and raw onion, and a large smear of lebni. It wasn't a huge amount of spread, probably enough for two people. The friendly proprietor made sure we were taken care of, and plenty of take home boxes were given for us to self pack. The adana sausages were great the next day, especially dressed with the lebni. I would group Pasha with the many excellent Mediterranean/Middle East restaurants I've tried, with a great discovery (at least for me) of getting lebni/labneh mixed in with a bit of walnut.

    Turkish Kazooz! AMAZING!

I had an amazing experience at Pasha Turkish Restaurant. The hospitality is truly next level -- the owners themselves are serving guests, and you can feel the genuine care and warmth from the moment you walk in. The food... WOW. I'm Middle Eastern and I've been to Turkey more than 30 times, and honestly, this is the closest I've ever felt to being back there. Same authentic taste, same vibe, same everything. Every dish is full of flavor and made with real quality. On top of that, the prices are very affordable for the level of quality you're getting, which makes it even more impressive. If you want real Turkish food and a true experience -- this is the place. Highly recommended!

Lovely Turkish spot in rice village! It's so comfy and homey inside it feels like you're eating dinner with a family and they're serving home cooked food. The bread is tasty and plentiful. The plates have a good amount of food on them. The doner kebab was tasty, savory and so filling. Didn't feel too greasy or salty which I appreciated. Would absolutely come back to try more things!

If you have the opportunity to come eat at Pasha, please do!! I tried it today and will definitely be back. Service: The owner and the waitress were so unbelievably kind and friendly, which isn't always super common in even the nicest restaurants. They checked up on us, always had a big smile, and provided a very welcoming energy. I believe this is a family business that has been here since the early 2000s. Food: delicious! The appetizer we got (SİGARA BÖREK - number 13 on the hot appetizer menu) was a crispy fried phyllo dough rolls stuffed with feta cheese and parsley. This was divine !! The entree I got was quite good but I think I would get something else next time, as this was an error on my behalf (I got something too tomato-y ! My mom's entree was delicious looking too and I was a little jealous of hers! The dessert we got was Turkish flan I believe; it is served cold with crunchy pistachio pieces on top. As someone who loves chocoflan this is equally as good!! Highly recommend and the presentation was delightful. At the end my mom got a Turkish coffee and the owner asked if I wanted some too and I declined and then he brought me a free tea! This was such a nice surprise and the tea was very good. Ambiance: the inside is very nice for any meal and any occasion. Very clean, very welcoming and warm! A lot of restaurants in houston are in these copy paste looking buildings and stuff but this place just feels very welcoming, unique, and special. Price: I think the prices are very reasonable for what you're getting ! My mom and I had a three course meal basically for around $60. It's easily around $20 per person if you don't get dessert, drinks, and appetizers. Amazing value, taste, and service compared to other places here!!

The Karniyarik is very good. Pasha is a favorite, excellent food and service. Parking as well.

Dined in for lunch with a friend and I have to say this is one of the best Turkish restaurants in Houston near Rice Village/Med Center. It's family owned, the staff there are very friendly and the food/service there is impeccable. From the Hummus, to the Red Lentil soup, and their amazing Doner Kebab Entree. Of course you can't say no to their Pistachio Ice Cream and their Turkish Hot Tea!!! Will be back soon!!!

    Babaganoush 5/5
    Lauren M.

Overall, I think our meal was decent. What made it better was the excellent service and ambiance of the intimate dining room. Compared to Istanbul right around the corner, I'd prefer the dining layout here. The food to me was a solid 3/5. The manty dumplings were great but needed salt imo. The mixed grill items like the lamb and chicken breast were dry as well as the adana kebabs were also dry but very flavorful. I've had better doner meat but it's decent. I loved their babaganoush. It almost tasted cheesy to me. We had the feta pide, which was ok. Feta was dry and the egg was overcooked. Should've stuck with the cheese version. The knafe was amazing. But you'd better have an extreme sweet tooth if you order this dish. It was very crispy and superior sweetness.

Indoor entrance - probably can handle total 6-7 tables max so not enormous seating space

Nice quiet little mom and shop restaurant tucked away near downtown. Has a very homely feel to it (not very fancy or classy). I ordered the Iskender Kebab and it was too much meat for me. I feel the menu could have a few more options and variety beyond kebab / meat dishes but I suppose this is TX, so it's serving to the local clientele. There wasn't too much drink variety and I ended up having the Turkish hot tea which was fine. I probably would be interested in coming for a first time visit but wouldn't come back - and would venture out to other eateries instead. Perhaps drop in if you are in the area?

I haven't been back here for a long time. Food was still good as I remembered but the restaurant needs to upgrade. The minute you walked in and the old mildew smell from an old restaurant clearly hit you. Maybe some candle fragrance or some coffee flavor smell would help. Of course if the owner can afford then the renovation is needed. Food and service overall was good. But plate presentation is not great.

I decided to give Pasha another try, and I'm so glad I did! My group got the cheese rolls, dolmas, ali nazik with chicken, shawarma kebab, lamb shish kebab, and falafel plate. The cheese rolls came out hot and crispy, with just the right amount of saltiness from the feta. The ali nazik with chicken was served with a roasted eggplant purée that was pretty tasty, and the chicken was juicy. It would have been nice for this dish to have a fresh element as well (such as the pickled cabbage or vegetables that the other dishes had). Everyone cleaned their plates, but the best part of the meal was the basket of fresh pita bread served with herby olive oil for dipping. The bread had the perfect balance of textures: crispy exterior, chewy and soft interior. Service was fast and friendly. The restaurant is pretty small with less than 10 tables, so it might be hard if you have a larger group, but they could probably move some tables together to accommodate. The parking lot in front is also very small, so if you can't find a spot, I recommend parking in the Rice Village garage (free 2 hour parking).

    4. Adana Kebab 3. Dolm

So good! The owner went through the menu and pointed out all the things I could have, seeing as I'm allergic to wheat and dairy. He was knowledgeable, nice, and just made sure we had a good experience. Overall- fantastic! We will be returning.

This place has a really good vibe with a old hose turned into dining room and run by a family. Where things go wrong are the service, and the taste. The lamb kabobs were decent but with vet little flavor. The sides were stale and tasted like cafeteria food. Folks on our table got falafels wraps and they were uncooked in the center. The food earns some credit for the bread and the appetizers - a big plate with all the different dips on it. May give this another chance in a year or so.

The place is new but not recently new, so I was impress that they were still attracting a crowd. The place was packed and busy but the host was still able to seat us immediately. With reservation, of course. Our seat was a banquet seating and when the host directed us to our table, we notice the party seated next to our table had placed all their personal belongings on our seats. We had to ask the host to ask them to remove their personals so that we can sit down. I felt that the host should have done that and not upon our request. Our server was Keamogetswe and she jumped right into explaining the menu since it was our first time. I am used to ordering drinks first and while waiting for our drinks, explore the food menu. That way, we can ask questions about any item we were unfamiliar with on the menu. Anyways, we ordered our food and they came out very fast. For starters, we had the grilled shrimp which was just two shrimps. They were not prawns so the size of the two shrimps for $18 was not worth it to me. We also tried the Rumi's wings. They were average to me. Nothing to brag about. For the main course, we wanted to try several dishes and settle for a family style meal. We had the braised lamb shank, chicken kabob and the Koobideh Kabob. Since all plates came with rice, Keamogetswe suggest we try different rice options which was a great suggestion. So for the rice, we had the Adas, the Baghali and the Shirin. I have to admit that the braised lamb was amazing. The stew it sat in was very flavorful and the meat melted off the bone it came with. The Koobideh was also another favorite of mine. Both, I highly recommend everyone to try. And my favorite rice was the Shirin. As we moved on to dessert, we had the burnt honey & pistachio cake and the persian ice cream sandwich. Both taste great but the persian ice cream sandwich itself was vanilla wafer. Different but it made it easier to eat with your fingers. The weird thing was when the dessert was served to us, so was the check. I am used to us eating dessert or just starting to enjoy dessert before being handed the check. And when they do hand me the check, they would mention that it was no rush and when I am ready to take care of it. But that didn't happen and I decided to get it out of the way so I can just enjoy the dessert. As we were conversing and finishing our drinks, they started to clear our table and even picked up the signed check or tab. It felt like they were hinting us to get up. I feel that if there was a time frame to dine with them, they should have made us aware of it before dinner or when we made reservation like how Toca Madera does. So that made me feel uncomfortable. But this could just be me.
