Along this street, you can always get a good view of the Obelisk, which is at the end of the street where it intersects 9 de Julio. When I went, the Buenos Aires government had shut off half the street with barriers so pedestrians could walk along in the middle of the street and take in the sights and scenes of BA. When I went, I saw chalk artists, cover bands, people acting like statues, tango dancers, a stand up comedian, a magician... There's so many things to take in here!
It's cool that along this street are so many book shops, and theaters- it's a right brain workout just cruising up and down this street. Be sure to take in the street sculptures, including restaurant mascots and various famous people.
I felt safe walking along here on a Saturday night. Places would be empty one moment, and packed full the next, as theaters would get out and lots of people show up at once. Be sure to bring some bills for tips, and be sure to always tip the musicians!
