My husband had it on his wishlist of…read moreplaces to visit so I booked tickets online via their official website ahead of time when I knew we would be in port. Since our port day was 11 hours, we booked a very expensive bus ride (cruise excursion) from the cruise port in Motril to Grenada. The bus dropped us off steps from the Alhambra and we were able to access the grounds with our prebooked tickets. I chose the 2 pm timeslot for the Nasrid Palace. We were dropped off around 11:15 am so we were able to walk the gardens and all the other spaces prior to gaining access to the palace. The Alhambra is one of the most famous monuments of Islamic architecture built in 1238 by Muhammad I Ibn al-Ahmar, the first Nasrid emir. After the conclusion of the Christian Reconquista in 1492, the site became the Royal Court of Ferdinand and Isabella (where Christopher Columbus received royal endorsement for his expedition to seek out the Indies and spices). In 1812, it was partially destroyed by Napoleon's troops. The Alhambra has been the subject of numerous restorations since the 19th century. It is now one of Spain's major tourist attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. My husband and I spent the majority of our day exploring the Alhambra's grounds. We visited the Palace of Charles V, the Court of Lions, the Nasrid Palace, the Lindajara Courtyard, and the hammam. It's a vast complex of buildings and gardens. In the hot Spanish sun, we walked around marveling at the architecture and the grounds. They have an app to guide you through but the WiFi is spotty. It is beautiful and it is obvious they are preserving the history here. We just wandered around until we needed to grab lunch and head back to the bus.

It is a palace and fortress complex and is one of the most famous monuments of Islamic architecture and the only well-preserved palace from the medieval Islamic world. Additionally, the palace contains notable examples of Spanish Renaissance architecture. It was constructed on a plateau that overlooks the city, built chiefly between 1238 and 1358. After the expulsion of the Moors in 1492, it was partially effaced and portions were rebuilt in Renaissance style. Beautiful gardens with a huge variety of trees, plants, and flowers. The interiors of the palace and fortress are very special also, with its carvings and structures.

If you want to take a break from the sights, smells, sounds, and crowds of Málaga, walking around…read morethe botanical garden is nearby and inexpensive. To get there, take the No. 2 Bus across the street from Mercado Atarazanas and in front of Carrefour Express. The driver accepts 1.40€ via touchless credit card (but NOT American Express) or cash (the driver gives change for small bills under 10€). By the way, masks are REQUIRED on the bus. Once you arrive at the last stop, there is a 15 minute walk to the entrance of the garden. Download Google Maps prior to leaving. If you happen to visit the garden on a Sunday, you're in luck because there is no entrance fee. Otherwise, regular admission is 5.20€ or 3.10€ for youngsters and seniors. During the walk, you'll find plants/trees that are well marked, plenty of picnic areas, food vendor, and gift store. Taking the forest route offers a more challenging walk while staying in the lowlands offers a more leisurely walk. Surprisingly, there's a Barbie exhibit that's well done and worth visiting. While visiting the gardens is not an "epic" experience, I appreciate that the original vision of conservation and green space (next to the freeway) is being supported by organizations who share the same vision. Returning back to your hotel requires backtracking the same way you arrived.

Really beautiful old house with big big palm trees and lovely waterfalls and pools and streams. Had lunch at the cafe which had interesting salads and hot sandwiches at good prices. Great day out with lovely views of Malaga and the mountains.

There's really nothing special about the park itself. The house is probably worth a quick 10-15…read moreminutes of your time, if you can catch it while it's open. The hours are funky, so best to call ahead. The park has a few fountains and some nice trees and shrubbery if you feel like sitting to enjoy. There are a few benches, many of which are covered in bird poop, however, so sit with caution.
