Ever since the change, green park used to be Saint Ali North. It has been gutted, revamped and just incredibly put back together. When they first opened they had a pianist whom played during lunch but because it's a very busy time they have changed it so that a band plays on Sunday nights where it is calmer and the music can be more appreciated. The food is a great variety of people's favourites with a twist of awesome and then you have their more exotic plates where the chef gets to let loose allowing customers to have something different. Breakfast, brunch, lunch and now even dinner... Green park opens for dinner. Having only a small portion of the restaurant open in the evening along the bar, it's an intimate affair. Here the menu options are truly explored with a selection of beverages to match. As for staff, they know their stuff and if you take a second to get to know them they are really great people. As for the decor it is incredibly up to scratch... The seating area has been designed to have one end for individuals eating alone with booths for small groups and as you work your way toward the back the seating becomes more family friendly with seating outside for mothers with prams so that they can see their kids in play area right outside. The discrete soundproofing in the ceiling makes a great difference to dropping the noise level when it gets really full. I loved it before... I love it even more now! read more

Green Park is quite easily one of my favourite venues in Melbourne. I have been there for breakfast, lunch, dinner and just drinks and have never once been disappointed. Last night was my first time indulging in dinner and BOY did we indulge. We started with a charcuterie board, which if you have any interest in charcuterie you simply *must* try. It includes four different meats with the highlight being the lemon and salt cured pork belly. I drool just thinking about it. On the particularly evening we dined I had a serious hankering for steak, so naturally I went for the Wood-grilled Murray Grey sirloin and braised short rib. It was so incredibly tender and juicy and melt-in-your-mouth delicious that I would happily have it for dinner for the rest of my life. We finished up with an apple tart with cinnamon ice cream. Now I am not normally a tart kinda gal but for some reason it leapt out at me from the dessert menu. I am not even kidding, we licked the plate clean within three minutes of the tart arriving in front of us. THREE MINUTES. The staff were both shocked and impressed by our efforts. Green Park has the perfect mix of relaxation and sophistication. It simultaneously makes you feel like you're at a fancy venue for an expensive dinner while still remaining casual and affordable. read more

It was with much anticipation that I headed back to the old "St Ali North" to see what had become of it. I have ridden past it many mornings, just hoping they were open just a little bit earlier than their 7am start. I am sure that they used to open earlier. So Sunday breakfast, with the family in tow we headed on down for an 8am start to avoid the rush of hipsters :) We were greeted at the door and seated instantly, always a great start! Straight away you see that the layout changes have done great things for the noise levels (the wall of booths to the right of the front door look great!) Unfortunately, things started to go downhill almost straight away. Maybe it is me, maybe I have grown accustomed to other cafe understanding the challenges of small children but when you see a huge pile of high chairs you think that they might have gotten it too. Some time after ordering, after the OJ and coffee had arrived, Little Miss 2 got her babychino and her parents are now already approaching desperation point... Unfortunately this wasn't to be the end of the children fun, we ordered her breakfast from the 'kids' menu. Yoghurt and fruit, how hard can it be? I forgot, this is brunswick, so hipster jars it was. This is completely impractical for a two year old. Surely the waitress would have picked up on the fact that she might not be able to handle that without breaking it? or the chef when they put together the 'kids menu'... but I digress... The food was just as good as I had hoped, but the pricing/serving size balance as definitely missed the mark. I had bacon and eggs. Once piece of thick cut bacon (about the same as two normal rashers stacked on top of each other) left me wondering if they had left the rest of the bacon elsewhere... again maybe I am just turning into a grumpy old man... So, what is the summary? well I will be back, for the coffee... and maybe drinks one sunny afternoon.. everyone needs a second chance.. but I doubt I will be rushing back for breakfast any time soon... it is just too hard. read more

This is an improvement on St. Ali but perhaps because it's recently reopened in this new incarnation it has a few bugs to iron out. Most of them relate to the staff. I know it's trendy to not write orders down but if you 1) can't remember what was ordered 2) allocate an area to a waiter (rather than having a multitude of them asking you the same questions) - it doesn't work. The other negative is that it's overrun with families with kids, specifically parents who don't seem to understand that their noisy kid bothers others there for dinner, especially shouting at them from the outdoor area to the playground. The location, the outdoor area and the quality of the food is what pulls this review up to 3 stars. read more

Park St Dining is a delight as others have observed. This is a five star venue for me. The makeover at PSD is pretty special. We'd been here several times a few years ago. It had become a staid and inconsistent venue on several levels and clearly needed improvement. It was remodelled last September. The space was improved and redecorated markedly. A new menu was developed and a new chef engaged as well. It's an excellent makeover in every respect. The space used to be too green and was dark and oppressive in spots. It's since been lightened beautifully with nice artworks added. The revamped venue was gorgeous, light and airy on a lovely Melbourne day today. There was ample light and a light soft breeze wafting in the open back door. There's a pleasant outdoor area here too that a number of diners were enjoying. Add nice music on the sound system and it all felt great. And, it is genuinely a place for everyone. There were people and kids of all ages and styles here enjoying themselves today. We came for lunch. I started with an exceptional Bloody Mary. This was as good a one as I've ever had. First, it was fantastically decorated with a soft green pepper, a slice of cucumber and several cocktail onions. All of these were delicious on their own as well as with the drink. This Bloody Mary was sooo good. Rich and beautiful with fantastic spice. Perfectly composed. It was slightly fiery but not OTT unlike some overseas ones I've had in recent times. Australian BMs can be a bit under spiced. This one though was so skillfully balanced. My companion had a Mimosa which was just the right tipple to start a lovely summer lunch with. The all day menu at PSD is excellent. There's plenty of choice without overdoing it. Many of the usual favourites can be found here with variations. But, there are plenty of innovative and unique dishes too. I wanted to order about three quarters of the dishes on the menu, always a great sign, as they all sounded so good. I ultimately chose ricotta on toast with salsa verde, pickled radishes, lemon myrtle and the house cured Port Lincoln sardines. I added a side of mushrooms as I was peckish after a 16 hour fast. This was a beautiful and delicate dish overall. I loved everything about it. The presentation was super. It looked so elegant and pretty on the plate. The flavours were fabulous too. The delicate radish slices are sprinkled with lemon myrtle. The salsa verde on the ricotta and toast is packed with flavour. Add beautiful and delicate sardines and all of the textures the ingredients offer as well and you've got a real winning dish for me. My side of mushrooms worked magnificently with everything too. The mushrooms were cooked beautifully too. I loved this dish. It was excellent and it really was very enjoyable. My partner chose Jenny's High Tea with savoury macaroon, Katsu pork sanga and dashi broth. Others cover this dish comprehensively so I won't add more. It is enough to observe here that it is a very special offering. We finished with a lovely flat white and long black respectively. I need only say that this is super Melbourne coffee. We had lovely service throughout today. It was being extended to everyone our ambit. Our thanks to Kelly and Park St Dining for the invitation to dine here. The makeover has worked wonderfully. Sweat place to dinner and brunch. All the waiters are so nice and they can help to find the good meal for you. I took the meal of the day: zucchini. This meal was very good and was different to the other restaurant ( very easy but very tasty). I didn't take desert because they had only 2 choices and it was not interesting for me. But If you do biking on the capital city trail, it's a very good place to take a break. They have many meals and many cakes for a tasty break. read more

Great location, excellent renovation and a suitably small yet accommodating menu. Accompanied with some friendly front of house staff to welcome you at the door. Unfortunately this is where all the goodness and happiness ends at Greenpark for me. Ever so hopeful I made one final (3rd) try at brunch here. This time around we were promptly seated and coffee orders taken. You know things aren't going great when your coffee is delivered to another table, who arrived 15mins after you. Even though the table of 4, couldn't understand why only two lattes were presented. This table even questioned a waitress 10mins later on their missing coffees and was brushed off. After having to wave at a waitress to enquire about the whereabouts of our coffee we were told that the baristas are terribly busy and that all the staff are very experienced at delivering the correct coffees. End result I still was no closer to getting coffee. The one pancake and blueberries was delightful to look at but was lacking structure. The blueberries perhaps had spent some time in a freezer? The house smoked bacon was delicious and poached eggs done expertly. As we were about to leave, having eaten brunch and read our magazines the coffees finally arrived. Cold. read more

Newly opened Green Park Dining adds to the growing trend of cafes offering dinner service. Set in the location formerly known as St Ali North, Green Park seamlessly blends into the relaxing neighbourhood of North Carlton and is very easily accessible by being situated next to the 96 tram line and the Capital City bike trail. There is also street car parking out the front. A typical bustling Melbourne cafe during the day, it transforms into an intimate dining affair at night with the main dining room being closed off leaving just the bar and booth area open. The fare is an journey into the slightly less travelled path of modern Australian cuisine. There's a small focus on game with dishes such as rabbit rillette, braised oxtail croquettes, fried wild rabbit and a selection of charcuterie. For the more hungry there's a wood grill churning out Murray Grey dry aged rump, flathead and squid. One of the owners, James, mentioned that the menu is constantly changing depending on availability so expect other equally stunning dishes. On this particular night I had an entrée of the braised oxtail croquette which is perched in a bed of aioli with a sprinkling of horseradish on top. Having never had oxtail before, this dish was an adventure into the unknown for me but a foodie can't really call themselves a foodie without experimenting with new dishes. The flavour combination of the oxtail, horseradish and aioli blends well with an exciting bite from the horseradish. A little more horseradish would have really completed this dish, however. I also tried the other croquette on offer, the namesake Green Park croquette. Filled with goats cheese and herbs, it too was filled with flavours. The main course was the previously mentioned Murray Grey dry aged rump steak topped with cafe de Paris butter with a side of watercress. James informed me that this breed of cow is unique in that is regarded as indigenous to Australia. Tenderly sliced with just the right amount of searing and juicy fat that melts in your mouth this was also a great dish. I'm not sure what to think of the flavours of the butter, maybe some garlic butter would have been more suited. Dessert was one of the highlights for me with the strawberry Eton mess. A scoop strawberry sorbet topping the smooth mixture of strawberry slices, meringue and cream, this was a great end to a wonderful meal experience. The drinks selection is equally impressive with s range of craft beers, wine and spirits. Notably, the house-made ginger beer is a must try. Made from ginger emulsion, ginger juice and a hint of chilli it packs a punch. Green Park Dining by night is an exciting culinary adventure and definitely needs to be visited. read more

Seriously what is not to love about this place? The space is great - cozy booths in the bar area and a beautiful open dining area with massive windows. The location - close to public transport and heaps of parking nearby. The food and drinks - the food is delicious and the drinks list is accommodating yet not overwhelming. The staff - these guys are cool and happy to help. I've only been a couple of times so far but I can see myself really settling in! read more

I've been here for breakfast and dinner. The venue looks great and there is seating outside for when the weather is good. When I went for breakfast it was a quick solo visit. I mentioned I was in a hurry, and they accommodated me by Pointing out which breakfast options could be prepared quickly. I had the granola with some sort of stewed fruit, it was v nice. Service wasn't hugely friendly. On my second visit for Sunday dinner the place was far more relaxed. They had live music and the service was superb. My friend and I shared some dishes - all of which were excellent, a charcuterie board, some roast potatoes and something else delicious. We were also naughty and had desserts which were amazing. I reckon this place is probably better in the evening when things quieten down a lot. Cos of all the passing traffic it's always a bit crazy here during the day - a lot of kids and what not. It's a good spot but oversubscribed during the day, I'd probably go somewhere else for breakfast because of this. read more

Late breakfast around 11am March 3,2018. Unfortunately not a lot of positives to mention about this cafe, despite reading some reasonable reviews and I liked the 'community' perspective which mainly enticed me to give it a go, although I don't live locally. First ( and lasting) impression: very ordinary service. No smiles anywhere, staff appeared unhappy , unfriendly, not helpful. Even towards the end we asked where/how to pay and the waitress said she would bring us the bill. The bill never came and we saw her cleaning/setting tables so she obviously forgot. When we went to the counter to pay we were pointed to a different counter where once again we waited a few minutes as plenty of staff trying to look busy but no one interested in serving us. I think if we had walked out without paying no one would have come after us. We jokingly said we should have done it , as prices were very high for the limited menu, and basic food. Despite a lot of staff, they don't offer fresh juices. The coffee was the worst I have had in years. So bad that I could not drink it after about three sips as it had a very sour taste to it ( and I had a long black , no dairy !). The food, we had the mushroom/egg dish and the ham/cheese toastie with pickles and a side of smashed avocado. And finally we have something relatively positive to report... The mushroom/egg was quite enjoyable with the only negative that the sourdough could not be cut with the serrated knife and had to be eaten by hand. The toastie was nice but again the sourdough quite hard to cut although not as overcooked as the bread with the mushrooms. Pickles were nice. The smashed avocado which we had to remind the staff off after we received our meals, came on a small plate, it would have barely been a quarter of an avocado, and cost $6. The atmosphere in the place was stale despite most diners being 25-40 year old locals, often with small children. I can see that for that kind of market the place is quite suitable. Also it is well located right next to a popular bike/walk path , and is part of the "Nicholson Village" . I am very disappointed to say that the many flies inside the cafe, annoying as they were and at times putting you of your food, at least they noticed and visited us, something that can't be said about the staff apart from taking the order and bringing the food. This despite quite a few staff on the floor , and not overly busy with customers. To top it all off , literally from the moment we walked out , both my wife and I suffered stomach cramps which lasted a good 60-90 minutes. My wife seems to think it could be caused by the food prepping as she had noticed in the open kitchen that some food seemed to be sitting around on benches after probably having been prepared early in the day. All in all a very unsatisfactory experience and we could not get out of the place quick enough. We should have done that runner! read more

Green Park is wonderfully situated along the Capital City Trail overlooking a kids' play equipment and is a haven for cyclists and families alike. The brunch menu is delicious and although it doesn't branch out much beyond basic offerings into the realm of interesting dishes, the ocean trout and baked egg are delicious. With (former) links to St Ali, the coffee is understandably first-rate and they cater for kids with a bevy of high chairs on hand. Would love to return for some of the other sessions such as dinner and drinks, in an impressive round the clock operation. read more

I have only been to Green Park on a Saturday morning and it has always been packed full of people. While the scones were really yummy, unfortunately both times our coffee orders were wrong and when we went to pay we had to wait for ages because the guy was on his phone and completely disinterested and a bit rude. Other waiters were lovely though. It is a really nice space with a great atmosphere so will probably give it another go. read more

A perfect place for a sunny afternoon. This multipurpose food venue with three separate areas for coffee, food and drinks is located in a very nice bike track. You can technically order from your bike in the open coffeeshop that faces the park. Service was very friendly and both coffee and drinks were very good. read more

This place is genius. Went in for a Monday night dinner and the the curtained off bar area transformed the huge space (of ex St Ali fame) into an intimate booth and bar top dining space. The food was beautiful, simple and easy to select a combination of complimentary dishes. The temptation to try everything is assisted by small share plate servings on most dishes. Get the fried rabbit and the croquettes. The staff are attentive,knowledgable, accommodating and fast. Ask the guy with the pony tail for a wine recommendation, he won't steer you wrong - the Yarra Valley Sangiovese he gave us was delicious!Will definitely be back to try their breakfast and lunch experiences. Friendly staff, great location and nice coffee. However the food is not great despite it looking visually appealing. We had the zucchini corn bread fitters and grain bowl which were quite bland. Plus the serving sizes are small, so don't come here hungry. Next time I'll opt for basic eggs with sides and see how that fares read more

If you wish to go to green park my advice is to avoid family friendly times, the weekends and Friday and Saturday nights (unless you have a booking.) Yes, that might make it quite hard in terms of when to dine, but usually from after 7pm on a weeknight, it's pretty chilled and all the hub-bub and most of the busy trade for the day has died down. Your experience will be more enjoyable, calmer, quieter and more relaxed. Green park does get very busy and does get very loud, so if you can steer around these facts, then the news is best. Great spot to stop by for a few quiet or casual drinks and perhaps more. Not so good when it's being hounded by the bicycle brigade, squadrons of families, packs of hungover locals at 11am Saturdays, teams of coffee take away aficionados, or packs of hipsters in large groups with anywhere from 6-22 mates in tow. Seriously good coffee, (stuff for home brewing) and a drinks list that isn't so ordinary. read more
